Essentially, we planned to use the Bangor debit card only for travel. Despite have never used the card since we opened the account, we found out today that the card was used in an attempted fraudulent purchase on Amazon. Fortunately, Bangor Savings Bank blocked the transaction and sent us an email. They were helpful when we called them today. However, I now have serious concerns about their lack of security. This card was used for an attemped fraud, despite the fact that we have never used it, which means that any information that the malfeasants obtained was directly from Bangor Bank itself, and not from some ATM, online purchase, or store somewhere. And this after the account being opened just a few months. That means that someone gained access to all my personal info, including SSN, etc. Who knows if down the road I will now have to deal with the consequences of identity theft due to this breach.

Their rewards checking program is phenomenal- you earn money on your checking account for doing things you do every day. I know that sounds like an advertisement, but it's not. ATM fees are refunded too! All you have to do is have direct deposit, use your debit card 12 times each month, and go paperless. These are all things I would do anyway, so double win! I don't know what more I could ask for from my bank. I have only ever had friendly experiences with the employees, they have resolved issues very quickly and they keep my money safe! I once have a false charge on my card they took care of it, refunded it without issue and issued me a new debit card immediately. We also have an auto loan through Town & Country. The process setting it up was fine, and we have had no issues. The interest rate is pretty low, and the payments are taken directly from our account, so no worries about scheduling payments. I've also used their notary a few times, and it was easy as pie (or waking in and asking). Mobile and online banking are easy too! I love me some TCFCU, and this location is super convenient for me!

I generally use ebanking (which I love!), but I do also sometimes go into the branch or use the drive up. On two occasions this past year, I have been waiting at the drive up while other customers finish lengthy transactions. By the time it was my turn, the drive up was scheduled to close. Each time, the employee has handled my transaction despite the hour, and has done so with graceful courtesy.

It's such a fantastic credit union that for many people you won't even need to. I switched over from TD Bank after they implemented a monthly fee for checking accounts and it was the best move I ever made. Here's what makes Town and Country so great: -You get 3.01% interest (up to a 10k account balance, then it's 0.5%) on your checking account, if you meet 3 criteria. These are having 12 payments with your debit card per month, have at least 1 direct deposit a month, and subscribe to electronic bank statements (instead of by mail). These are easy for many people to meet. I just charge my morning coffee. -Again, you get a sure 3.01% interest. Who else guarantees you this? Definitely not the stock market. It's literally free money. -ATM fees, from anywhere, are refunded up to $25 per month total. Most other credit union ATM fees are refunded and don't count towards this maximum. -It's free checking. -There's no minimum balance. -There is online checking, where you scan deposits with your phone. This can be slightly sensitive but takes me less than 5 minutes per check at most. So much easier than going to a bank. -The website is intuitive and easy to navigate, with many tools to analyze your spending and finances. The app is also nearly perfect. I did a lot of research before switching to this credit union and after being with them for 3 years, I strongly feel it's the best one in Maine. If you know of any better please message me!

I have two business accounts one with another bank and one with Gorham Saving Bank (GSB). I choose Gorham Savings Bank because it was convenient to my place of business and account fee structure. However, a top priority for me at any bank is good customer service! Good customer service is not the case from GSB!! Recently, I used the ATM to deposit a check ( I have online banking and mobile deposit but the online access has a glitch in it and I have been unable to access my account, and will not let me update my password...another good customer service matter)...back to my ATM deposit...I made an ATM deposit after 5 PM on a Friday, there was a notice that the funds would not be available until the next business day same message as any other bank that I use to provide my banking needs. However, unlike my other banks that I use there was not a partial credit ( typically up to $100), and unlike the other banks I use their next business day is not Monday..even though they are open for business on Monday a normal banking business day...but rather on Tuesday. This is outrageous in this day and age of electronic banking to hold monies deposited in an ATM for that long. As an aside, this bank is open for business on Saturday and when I went in to speak to the branch manager she mentioned that checks placed in the night deposit vault on Friday after 5 PM would be credited on Saturday morning..the ATM is literally 6 inches away from the night deposit I was told that checks are not removed from the ATM every day...hmmm...so checks stay in the ATM on Sundays...and are not credited to the account on Mondays like they would be if they had been deposited to the night deposit vault. Anyway, I will be closing this account in short order because of their lack of understanding of what good customer service is, and oh a heads up to GSB when taking a complaint at the bank the employee probably should not roll their eyes because they don't want to hear the complaint! But much like a dating relationship, they couldn't keep up the dog and pony show for long. I moved to NH, lost my ATM card and they told me I had to drive to Scarborough to get a new one, or wait three weeks. Can't they print one in Scarborough and mail it in less time than that? The bank was becoming less and less convenient for me but I stuck with it, hoping to see at least a flash of the great customer service. I tried depositing a $22 check through the mobile app, which is constantly either crashing or otherwise unavailable. True to form the app would crash when taking a picture of the front of the check. I called customer service after uninstalling and reinstalling the app twice, and after shutting my phone off and turning it back on twice. I was told to dump my phone memory, reset it to factory settings and try. All for a $22 check. Well, that didn't work either. They have no answer, which is to say they think it's my phone and not their crappy app. INSULT TO INJURY UPDATE: I sent my tax return to my savings account. I am taking a trip in May and when I went to buy my tickets, transferred the money. Naturally, the money was unavailable to buy the tickets, and the airline told me so, but GSB let the hold on the money go through, so I wasn't able to buy tickets then and I am still not able to because they've tied my money up. Another call to "customer service" yielded no results. I was told they could do nothing except either try to jump through hoops with the airline, or wait until today for the hold to expire. Of course, waiting causes the price to go up, so they continue to cost me money because (this is my shocked face) it's Wednesday and the hold is still there. I decide to leave Gorham Savings and open accounts with USAA and my hunch is that GSB couldn't care less if they tried. I'd rate them with zero stars if I could. What a pity I can't.
