Disappointing Service Friction and Process Errors…read more On March 25th, I requested a straightforward fund switch through the investment mutual fund CIBC/SIMPLII FINANCIAL call center. Despite reviewing the Fund Facts with the agent, the trade was processed incorrectly. It took until first week of May and over three hours of my time spread over March, April and May on multiple phone calls to resolve this, as I was forced to navigate a one-way communication system where I could not call agents back directly. Despite the now compounding complications due to impacting three funds I hold, the supervisor demonstrated professionalism to his best ability given the circumstances; however, the resolution process involved significant and avoidable friction. Being told there was confusion from both parties about my own instructions, only for them to to find out about their own error, was particularly a let down. I value my relationship with CIBC, but the administrative burden placed on the client to fix a bank error was significant. I am hoping CIBC takes this feedback seriously to improve their internal records and communication accessibility. I am prepared to update this rating once CIBC demonstrates proper service recovery and accountability for this significant loss of personal time and effort.

On Wednesday evening, I was in the area. I needed to deposit some cash. I spotted this Scotiabank. Perfect! I normally hit the drive-thru, which this branch has. For some reason, I was possessed to park my car in the parking area in front of this branch and walk in to use one of the ABMs. Bad move. I looked at the two signs on the branch's door. There was one sign for ABM hours of operation. I looked at the branches hours of operation. Both were identical. What a bummer. I guess that if you don't have a car and need to use the ABM, you can just walk up to the drive-thru one to do your banking. You just need to exercise caution that you are sharing the drive-thru with vehicles. I got back into my car and hit the drive-thru. It appeared that you have Cantonese support at this branch when it's open, as some of its services were written in both English and Cantonese. I pulled up to the ABM. I would have been sad if the ABM was not operational and I couldn't use any of the ABMs in the branch when it's closed. Luckily, the drive-thru one was working. I have a Tangerine debit card, so I can use it at any Scotiabank to do my banking. I had my bills deposited to my chequing account. Done! It was nice dropping by. It's a shame that you can't use the ABMs in the branch after the bank has closed for the day. At least there's the drive-thru ABM that's available. (270)

Two hours later we notice a debit of $720 entitled 'mortgage payment'. We knew this was an error as we had just paid our mortgage a few days ago, as well, this amount was completely different to our usual payment. We call the Scotia hotline and are told there is nothing they can do, we need to go to the branch. Drive all the way over there to be told 'sorry, its human error. The teller accidentally paid someone's mortgage from your account after you left as the account wasn't logged out of'. Um, what? You're a bank and you can't ensure that you log out of patrons accounts before completing the next transaction. A complete waste of our evening rectifying this. I understand, to an extent, human error, but this is just idiocy and scary to think of how many people get fleeced by such 'errors'

It's nice to not go through at least a set of doors and physically be inside the branch to use an ATM. If the weather is great, which was the case when I was there, it's enjoyable to walk up to the ATM, complete your transaction, and keep walking on the sidewalk. Of course, if the weather is horrible, it's best to head into the branch to take cover and do your ATM transaction. I didn't need to do any teller services. I can only hope that all services are available. There is Green P street parking that requires payment during banking hours. They made me wait about 40 minutes and call the hotline, where I was told that the card had been canceled, BUT IT IS STILL IN MY ACCOUNT AND I RECEIVED A TEXT MESSAGE SAYING THAT I HAD PICKED IT UP. This will negatively affect my credit score.

This is a real nice corner branch even though it doesn't have a drive thru banking service. There's a sitting area in front of the main entrance, parking for bicycles, and plenty of spaces for vehicle parking. Four Green Machines inside the branch can be accessed 24-7. For whatever reason, I was unable to deposit the cheque because the Green Machine kept rejecting the cheque scan/recognition. Plan B was to line up and make a Customer Representative counter transaction. This experience was very quick, efficient, friendly and courteous. Excellent! The decor was very pleasing and modern.

Basic, run-of-the-mill things like opening an LOC or a registered account becomes an epic exercise in frustration, requiring frequent calls or visits to the bank to fix mistakes. I only use this branch in emergencies now, even though it's the one closest to me. I prefer to drive a bit further to another branch to spare myself the hassle.
