I used to be a long time customer and always loved how quick they were with getting drinks out consistently and with quality however recently when I went on Saturday my drink took forever too come out, it took way longer than 10 min . Usually takes less than five min even when it's a little packed. Went on Sunday and the same happened. A friend who also frequents the place told me the same thing. Welcome to the Peninsula, Tea Hut! I had a good experience at their SF location, and was excited to see them open up on Laurel Street. It almostttt makes me want to go back to working from the office.. almost. I was in the area during the weekday, and stopped by to pick up a drink. I was planning to call my order in ahead of time so I didn't have to wait around; however, their online menu on their website was different then the photos of their menu on Yelp, and both menus were slightly different than their menu on food delivery sites. I ordered it less sweet, and it was barely sweet- I would definitely go with at least 50% sweet the next time around. This is my go to place for Boba in San Carlos! I don't think I've ever really gone wrong with any of the flavors (except maybe the taro because I was not ready for the pulp at the bottom of the cup). It's so refreshing and never feels too heavy even after I have their biggest size. It tastes really fresh which I don't feel like I always get out of Boba shops. I usually end up standing there asking the employees about their favorite drinks and they are always warm towards me while I ask 20 questions. I definitely appreciate the kindness and patience! I've heard a lot of good things about Tea Hut so I was super excited when I saw that they opened a location in downtown San Carlos! They're in soft opening right now and are open 12-6 on weekdays and Sunday and open 12-7 on Friday and Saturday (closed Mondays). I just ordered in person but I believe they have online ordering on their website as well. I 've tried a few of their milk teas and enjoyed all of them! My favorite so far was the Black Sesame Mochi Milk Tea. It's a black milk tea with soy cream on top and comes with mochi that you're supposed to dip in the cream. The mochi was delicious and the soy cream pairs well with both the mochi and the tea. I really really like their tea here! It has a strong, rich flavor that's not overpowered by the milk or sugar in the drink. Tea Hut claims that it's not as sweet as other boba shops and I agree! I ordered my usual 50% and it tasted closer to 25% at other boba shops. Next time I visit, I wanna try their cheese foam. I'm glad they opened a location in San Carlos and I hope they have a lot of success here. They have some good tea-focused milk teas and a pretty extensive fresh fruit tea selection. A little disappointed as the hype of this place got me with really high expectations. Lets start with what was great: -there wasn't a long line and our drinks came out relatively quickly (5 min or so). -cool cups and lids -sesame mochi milk tea is IG worthy and the 3 mochi balls that it comes with to dip in the soy foam is BOMB -drinks aren't made overly sweet, their 50% sweet is like a 25% at most places So with that, why the 3 stars? -price: each 24oz drink will run you about $7 (or close to it) if you want toppings -boba texture was meh...If you're paying $7 a drink, everything about it better be phenomenal! The boba was tasteless and had a hard texture, not soft and chewy. Not sure if it was undercooked or sitting out too long. TrueDan wins the award for best boba balls so far! -service: the cashier wasn't very helpful or friendly. She never asked how sweet or how much ice we wanted in our drinks (I had to ask her). And, I didn't realize until afterwards that further customization (like choosing oat milk) was even an option. Plus, she also got one of my orders wrong but we were in a hurry and didn't bother to fix it. New boba shop in town! They have a great selection of boba milk tea and fruit teas on their menu as well as a section for cheese foam tea! I wanted to try something simple as that's what I normally do when I try out new boba shops to ensure a baseline drink can be made before trying something fancier. I got the oolong milk tea and it was great. You can definitely taste the black tea and it was a great proportion of milk to tea. It's also not overly sweet. They have a unique dragon fruit tea drink with cheese that I may try (debatable) the next time I'm in the area. The boba is a bit on the pricey end. For a small oolong milk tea and no toppings, it was already $5. The dragon fruit tea that I want to try is almost $8/cup! :/ You can get boba of equivalent, if not better, quality at Urban Ritual or Boba Guys for less. Customer service could also be improved upon. The girl taking my order showed no enthusiasm and didn't seem to show much care towards customers so it's a little deterring. -2 stars for the steep priced and lack of customer service. read more

This is my go-to spot for milk tea in San Carlos. I LOVE that it is so close to my house and that I can come here whenever I want. I always place an order online via Square for regular Black Milk Tea with Pearls. The taste is very simple, but it hits all of the right spots. And every time I place my order online, within less than 5 minutes it's ready for me to pick up! My bf is a huge fan of the Mango Dreamer and the Cheesy Pink Lychee drink, and he claims that both are some of the best drinks he's had in the Bay. 10/10, definitely recommend! The first time Tea Hut I went to was the SF location on California St, so when I saw that they were opening one closer to me - I went the day after I found out! My boyfriend was even more excited. In his own words: "I love Tea Hut. That shit is fucking good. That's my favorite place to go for boba." LOL. My boyfriend always gets the jasmine milk tea with boba and he praises that this is one of the best places to get jasmine milk tea. I usually get the oreo milk tea, but this time I tried the black sesame mochi milk tea. I originally thought that it was a black sesame drink, but it's actually green milk tea with soy cream topped with three black sesame mochi balls. I love the soy cream on top. It had a thick consistency with a little bit of saltiness. The black sesame mochi was chewy and complimented the drink. I thought the little stick holding the mochi balls was super cute and just completed the look of the drink. As for the drink itself it was okay, but not my favorite. Be Careful!!! They have a very tricky order machine which you can only choose 10%, 15%, 20% tips when you checkout. It used to be ok to choose 0 tips. Because I'm ordering and to go. There is no extra service I need, why I have to pay tips? Unless they provide me a very good service, I will tip them for sure. But it's not reasonable when you order on machine without the 0 tips option. So it's forced you to give tips. They said if you don't want to give tips, you can come to the register to order, with the employee face to face. It's very tricky, because they know sometimes people face to face you might be not comfortable to choose 0 tips when they turn the iPad to you for tips, they're watching you... and some customers might feel shame if choose the 0 tips. So most people may pick 10% tips when face to face place orders with them. However, it's more comfortable to order on that machine when you don't want to give tips or just for a quick pick up to go. But now they remove the option for 0 tips, which means you have to give tips when you order on that machine. The owner is smart and the owner is disgusting for doing this kind of tricks. I'd rather go to BOBA guys down the street. They have indoor seatings and so I can enjoy the environment and I'm willing to pay tips for that extra service and great drinks! read more

This is a cute tea shop in downtown San Carlos that has a wide variety of drinks. I ordered the Passion Fruit Green Tea with Boba and Lychee Jelly. I really appreciated how good the drink was, with fresh fruit inside. The boba was cooked well and the jelly had a nice soft crunch. One odd thing was the amount of employees inside the shop. I counted six standing behind the counter and yet one took the order, and one other made the drinks. The rest were just....there? They were standing and talking to each other and a couple times while taking the order, the girl at the register needed something repeated because of that distraction. I came here because I've been wanting to try the soy milk mochi tea for years, but it was sold out when I came I ended up getting the watermelon slush with coconut pudding. It was refreshing and not too sweet. The coconut pudding was a smooth texture. Although, the coconut flavor didn't really come through for me. Tea Hut in San Carlos is the newer store out of the three locations. Parking is street parking, and it is a busy area, so it may be hit or miss. It was clean and modern inside. They have traditional milk as well as a new version that is their recommended dairy. I asked the worker and the explanation was not that helpful, so I still do not know the difference between the two and it was a bit overwhelming to choose between. For the ice level, they charge an additional fee for no ice. I would recommend getting regular ice, I got light ice and my drink was not that cold. I ordered my usual - jasmine milk tea with boba. Like I mentioned before, it was a hard to choose a milk option - between the traditional or the recommended dairy. I honestly do not even remember which one I chose, but my milk tea tasted like a cup of lukewarm milk with a very subtle tea taste (I am guessing that it was warm from the boba and I chose only light ice as well). The details: Went on a Thursday around 7pm with the sole intention of getting a black milk tea with pearl. Finding parking was difficult, but when you actually get in, not much of a wait. You can order ahead online or at the little kiosk inside, the prices are the same. It was so hot I ended up ordering the "Coco Melon" which is a watermelon slushie with coconut pudding, and I order with less sweetness. Only took a few minutes to make and it was cool because you can actually see them blending chunks of watermelon, ice, and tea to make the drink (as opposed to the bottles mystery syrup that most places use). They offer both plastic or bamboo/paper straws for use and drinks are served in harder plastic cups with pop-on lids. In 90F weather, the drink was definitely a welcome relief. The coconut pudding is flavorless, with each sip carrying the floral aroma from the jasmine tea at the forefront.
