Located in the Parkway Plaza Mall in El Cajon is "Tea Monks". Sitting in the food court sits this little Boba shop. I have to share my funny story first which will explain the 4 stars. First of all the service was great and drinks were made in very timely manner! I ordered my girlfriend a Taro Blended with boba and I got her son a Watermelon smoothie. When I got the drinks I smashed the straw into the table (pointy side down)... true boba people know this is a terrible idea because it gets rid of the pointy tip to bust through the plastic top.... Well I was thinking I could muscle it through and nope... watermelon smoothie EXPLODED all over me and the counter top... while people were ordering I was so embarrassed haha the girl running the register immediately grabbed the drink and said "don't worry about it I'll make a new one and don't worry about the mess I'll take care of it" is till cleaned up the mess but the gesture was incredibly nice seeing how it was my fault. On the other hand the Taro was somewhat watered down and was not like most Taros, the Watermelon smoothie I didn't try but lil man said he enjoyed it and drank most of it all down. I think if you're craving boba while out shopping the mall this place idle good but to go to the mall for this boba spot..... probably not. I picked up a small Tiger Milk Tea. I had it with non boba nor sugar, but with the traditional brown sugar. It cost $5.25 after taxes. The tiger milk tea was pretty good. The black tea flavor was mild. I would have prefer it a little stronger, but what do you do. The brown sugar flavor was just right. I was happy they did not over iced the beverage, especially since I forgot to mention easy on the ice. The service was friendly and easy going. The service was fast. They are located at the Parkway Plaza Food Court. There's plenty of parking. read more

I've been to other tea monks that I had a good experience with. This one was not the greatest. They had three people working and we still waited quite a while to order, standing at the counter (no one in line in front of us) and it appeared that they weren't busy making drinks either. Also it was the middle of a weekend day and they had no boba. My mango strawberry tea was ok but wouldn't be something I order again. read more

I've had a few types of drinks from here and they're all delicious. Tiger milk tea, a fruit lemonade and a mango lychee milk tea, to name a few. The tiger milk tea is exactly the flavor profile i've been searching for, perfect amount of sweetness without losing out on the flavor of the tea. The mango lychee MT is good but the lychee flavor is more prominent than the mango. Service is whatever, not much to be expected there from a mall kiosk. We went to the mall and want something to drink so we tried this place. I would not recommend this place. The drink are bad. We got one jasmine green tea with no sugar and it is okay since it's just the regular tea. Taro smoothie is very bad. It's no flavor and it's not sweet at all. It just taste like water with a little taro smell. Strawberry smoothie is also bad. It's still has a junk of ice there and it taste like strawberry milk. Really bad customer services. They have good drink options. We got a total of four drinks and unfortunately, none of them gave us the wow factor. The boba didn't taste as fresh. I got flavored iced tea. They must have used hot/warm tea because the ice was starting to melt before I even had a sip. It basically watered down my drink. Service was okay. read more

This Tea Monks location is the third one in SD. It's substantially smaller given the location of the food court in Parkway Plaza as there is just an ordering counter for drinks and pick up. I've already tried some of their milk teas and have also tried their Honeydew drink. I got a Tiger Milk Tea this time and was assured that the half sweet wasn't going to be too sweet which is my preference. The line does get long as they are newer and lots of people wanted drinks. I got my drink in around 10 minutes and my Tiger Milk Tea was actually a brown sugar mixture when I thought it was usually a mix of thai tea and black tea. It was the right amount of sweetness for me! Overall, it's pretty standard boba tea and it will suffice your boba craving at the mall. read more

Menu had a good variety but not too overwhelming so that made it simple enough to decide on a drink. The staff was very helpful and quickly processed my order/making the drink. A nice addition to the mall (as I used to work there many years ago), and it's right there in the food court so lots of seating available. When I asked the other worker for her name he stated her name but, then stated it was maybe due to the noise. Negative! Should have read reviews beforehand. I was open to try them out since I was at the mall but was so disappointed. I had the matcha strawberry boba milk tea and it was super watery and did not taste like matcha or strawberry at all. Boba wasn't as soft as I'd like. Very chewy. I'd go elsewhere.
