I wasn't sure of what to order but I mentioned seeing something about lavender milk tea on yelp and he knew exactly what I was talking about. The ambiance is very relaxed and quiet, which is perfect if you're just looking for a place to wind down with some tea or do some homework. Now onto the tea... The earl grey lavender milk tea might just be THE BEST milk tea I've ever had and that says a lot since it's coming from me haha. I like this place because I think it's a great alternative to coffee if you have friends that aren't into coffee/caffeine. I really like the vibe and decor of the place though. I always feel super zen and cleansed when I come in. It is a more quiet vibe, so perfect for one-on-one conversations or just for studying or getting werk done. Drinks: I think the drinks are alright. I have gotten to the Vanilla chai tea a few times and I think it is a little too sweet for my taste. Also it seems like everyone really loves the staff, I don't have much to say about this, they are friendly and accommodating and ready to answer any questions you have about tea! First off, not a bubble tea shop, but they do have milk teas, just no toppings like boba. They also have a good selection of fruit teas and loose leaf. TR is one of my favorite spots on the ave - I come here to grab a quick drink to go, to sit in and do homework, and to have a nice chat with people. The ambience is dim lights and there is a counter and tables spread about with a sofa on the right side - it's cozy and there's some music playing. The teas I've tried have all been great; personally I am a huge fan of their hot fruit milk teas - strawberry, pear, etc. are definitely rly my go tos. Their actually cold fruit teas and normal hot teas are also really good and overall they're very versatile with their drinks. Some conventional favorites I've heard are definitely the gunpowder green tea and lavender earl grey milk tea. Both aren't up my alley but for normal tea lovers they're amazing options. It's almost a sin that I've been going to school here for nearly four years and I haven't ONCE stepped into this place...until last night. All I can say: "Wow." This place has it all: - a big menu - a quiet, comfortable (read: warm) atmosphere - suave lighting - TEA (no, not bubble tea. REAL tea) Yeah, it's that good. As recommended by the owner, I had the Lavender Earl Grey, hot (you can get it cold too). The tea comes out in a cutesy teapot and matching teacup. The set also has a coaster to put the mesh basket after its delicious contents have steeped into the hidden liquids tucked neatly inside the pot. Anyways, back to the tea. It magically struck a balance by being just sweet enough to tantalize my tastebuds WITHOUT marring the Earl Grey underneath. It came out at the perfect temperature too, not the 212F monstrosity that your typical hot drink joint serves. This tea place has great ambience and delicious teas. I came here while visiting Seattle for the first time and my group was looking for a bubble tea place but couldn't find anything closeby. We settled for Tea Republik, but was pleasantly surprised at what it had to offer. The place is very comfortable and large, with dimmer lighting that is great for chatting with the friend or doing work on your laptop. There is a comfortable couch area that almost fit our entire large group. The person working behind the counter was very knowledgeable and friendly. The Lavender Earl Grey tea was very popular in my group. I like that there are always specials that are most likely blends of teas and teas you can't get anywhere else. I personally got one of the specials, which was Jasmine + chrysanthemum tea. Very yummy and lightly sweetened. The milk teas were definitely sweeter, but you can prob ask for less sugar. Hands down, my favorite place on the Ave. I can't tell you how many times I've been here. There are two sizes you can order and you can get your drink hot or iced. Their menu has a huge selection, so you're bound to find one that suits your taste. If you aren't quite sure what you want, you can try asking the staff for some recommendations. They're super friendly! After trying many different teas, my go to flavor is the lavender cream earl grey. This is a great place to work, study or hang out with friends. The atmosphere is lovely. It's cozy and not too loud. It can get busy though, especially during the school year when midterms and finals are coming up. There are about a dozen of square tables, some bar seating and a set of sofas. You can bring your laptop and use their wifi (just ask for the password) and along the walls are outlets. I've been looking for a tea place just like this one for a long time. First of all, it has great atmosphere. Inside it are couches and many tables perfect for sitting at and studying or hanging out. It's very quiet inside and this makes it a perfect place to do some schoolwork while enjoying your tea. I've found their hot teas to have generous portions when you order their teapots, while cold teas are pretty standard-sized. Service has always been friendly and prompt. As for tea, it has a little bit of something for everyone. There are sweet teas, milk-based teas, herbal teas that bloom inside a clear teapot and your standard teas like oolong and silver needle. My absolute favorite is the Emilia Rose, which has just the right amount of sweetness and unique rose flavour while not being overpowering. Price-wise, it's a little bit high, but I find it worth it for the atmosphere, quality and selection they have. They have a punch card where you can get a free tea after 10 teas, which does help with the pricing. Most of the shops on this street are similarly expensive, so it's not a big problem. read more

I really enjoy coming here to study. Not only is there no obnoxious music all the time, but the ambience and atmosphere is just very chill here. I come here a lot to catch up with my friends but mostly to just study. I really love the inside and I love the drinks they provide. My personal favorite is the lavender cream tea. It's very nice hot or cold! The service here is always nice and amazing. The time it takes for the drinks is always short as well. The only thing I would sort of warn is the dim lighting. I love the place but sometimes it had a dim light so it's kind of hard to write. But other than that I have no problem with him place. I absolutely love this place and would definitely recommend it for anybody trying to come and study in a very nice and calm environment while enjoying some pleasant and great tasting tea. In this day and age of coffee-everything obsession, it's nice to go somewhere where you'll never have to hear the grind, whir and sputtering of an espresso machine. Location: University Avenue between Ruzhen Mongolian Grill and Pagliacci Pizzeria. There's a bus stop across the street and a tree right outside. Seating and atmosphere: 2 or 4 person tables, a short bar, and a set of low-to-the-ground sofas. I'd guess there's seating for about 30 people total. The overhead lampshades are colored and shaped like flowers, which gives the cafe a slightly tinted hue. In all the times I've been to TR, almost everyone there seems to be studying, but there are always a few tables of people hanging out or hiding from the wet Seattle weather. There is a restroom in the back for customers only. You'll need a code to get in, and it changes often. Tea: Way more flavors and offerings than you could possibly ever hope to try! There's guaranteed to be something for everyone, even if you've never been a fan of tea. Ordering is simple: select a tea, choose a size, indicate whether you'd like it hot or iced, and decide if you'd like it sweetened. If you drink your tea there, someone will bring a pot, a tiny teacup and a saucer to place your teabag on once it's done brewing. The large pot will give you about 4 teacups worth of tea. I've had it I love the green teas (no sweetener, hot), but I've also tried several fruit teas and milk teas. Bottom line: The service is great, and the tea is superb. When I first moved to U-District and had no wi-fi at home I got pretty desperate and ended up going to Starbucks almost daily. Decided to try loitering somewhere different and figured a tea shop would be a viable option. Tea Republik is very chill! It's sort of dim, the employees never rush you and are friendly. They seem to know people want their space and only really talk to you if you talk to them first, which I greatly appreciate, being the introvert that I am. You can get a pot of hot tea for yourself or to share and they provide free hot water refills! Yes people, tea can be steeped multiple times. No wasting here! They provide you a small dish to place your tea leave so they don't oversteep as well. The problem I faced was that there was no string or way to pick up the tea bag without dipping your fingers in scalding hot water. Luckily I have kitchen hands but a weaker being may have suffered greatly. The bathroom has a key code you need to ask for, which is common in places where there are many homeless folks. The decor definitely needs some work though. It looks like they went for some weird tropical or island theme but failed miserably and ended up looking like some 5th grader's Hawaiian-themed birthday party. Seattle hit 95 the day we visited - so naturally looking for liquid refreshment to quench our parched throats, we looked around for the best milk tea in the area. Lavender earl grey caught our eye, because earl grey milk tea usually rocks and so does lavender. The whole drink had the cloyingly sweet taste of a mix powder.. I've been to the Tea Republik a couple times and enjoy coming here. It's a good small-business alternative to a place like Starbucks, and unlike most coffee shops it is completely focused on tea rather than having tea be an afterthought. I do enjoy coffee but overall prefer tea so a place that focuses on it is nice. It can get crowded in here during the school year at UW because a lot of people hang out here to study. You may have to get your drink to go if there aren't any seats left, which to me kinda defeats the main purpose of coming here. They have a huge menu of various hot and iced drinks. Drinks here are about the price of a comparably sized drink at Starbucks, maybe a bit more. If you order a hot drink you get a little teapot, teacup, and a small saucer you can use to take out the tea steeper if you don't want your tea to keep brewing in the pot. Iced drinks are presented in a large glass. Here's what I've tried so far: Emilia Rose (one of the specials, ordered it hot): good, a bit sweeter than I would prefer (if I order it again I'll ask for less sugar). Tangerine Dream (iced): Refreshing! Reminds me of a creamsicle. This one wasn't overpoweringly sweet. There are plenty more I want to try! I will update the review when I do :) I have tried using Wi-Fi here but have trouble maintaining a decent connection, so I probably wouldn't have this as my first choice for any work that needs internet usage. Not a huge fan of coffee, so Tea Republik has become my go-to for cozy cafe vibes and a wide-range of consistently good non-coffee drinks. It's quiet, but not too quiet, so it's great for both getting work done or chatting with a friend. I've only walked in once and not been able to find a place to sit and that was on an afternoon during a midterm week. Some of my favorite drinks: For something fruity and refreshing- the Tropical Rainforest For something warm and spicy- the Belly Dancer (no caffeine) or the Kama Sutra Chai If I'm feeling indecisive I go with the Miyazaki (no caffeine) or the Moroccan Mint Many of their drinks are not on the menu, but you can ask to see "the binder" which lists all their drinks and what's in them. Always the dilemma I face. Atmosphere: I see lots of students come in here to study. It's a bit dark for my taste but it makes for a nice place to talk and catch up with friends. It's a relaxing atmosphere. They have added more tables and chairs which is nice. It has a cozy, jazz alley type feel to it. It in a great location on the ave. close to good restaurants. The hard part is if you're not a college student walking to the place, you're probably going to have trouble finding parking. But that's true for anywhere on the ave. Price: I think prices are reasonable. These are speciality drinks that you're not going to find anywhere else. They are about the same as a Starbucks latte. So I don't think it's far fetched although I can see how some may think it is on the pricey side. I don't mind personally. I'll admit it: I turned up my nose haughtily when I spied the "Coming Soon" signage for Tea Republik a few weeks ago. After falling in love with loose leaf tea a few years ago, and telling anyone who will listen about how great Remedy Tea is on Capitol Hill, I thought there was NO WAY I could *possibly* have room in my heart for another tea shop. But I was wrong. My beau and I were out for a leisurely exploratory walk on The Ave (that's University Way NE for you non-local types), where the game was "visit at least two places we've never been before". After leaving the Gargoyle shop, he noticed the new tea place was open and I begrudgingly agreed to check it out. The dark decor tripped me up at first, but it quickly gave way to a calming and cozy space set back from the craziness of the Ave. We were greeted immediately and ordered a couple of teas, him Earl Grey and Dragon Well for myself. The menu was pretty straightforward, offering several types of tea in either medium or large sizes. They took our debit card payment using a payment app on a smartphone (I think Google Payment), and as the nearest tables were taken by a moderate sized group, we headed for the leather couch to wait for our beverages. The couch was heaven. I need to find out where they bought it because I want it for my house. I sank in, felt immediately relaxed, and took in the decor. The simple bamboo on the walls, the gorgeous giant paper lotus flower light fixtures above, and even their pillow selection, well - the simple serenity of it all was perfectly executed. "Yeah", I thought. "I could hang here." And they have wi-fi, which could make it a decent work spot. Our teas arrived piping hot. Undrinkable, which I thought was weird for a green tea (generally you want just under boiling temp for green teas), but shrugged it off. The teas arrived in cute ceramic pots, but without any holder for the tea strainer inside. For my selection this wasn't a big problem, but it was the kiss of death for the Earl Grey. Though it arrived perfectly sweetened (as requested), the tea was great for only one cup before it started to turn bitter from over brewing. We decided that next time we'd request extra cups to hold the tea strainers so as not to waste perfectly good tea. The large was about $4 (probably at least 4-5 small cups), and the medium was about $3.50; I was able to get 3+ small cups out of it) - we spent about $10 between the two of us, and to be honest we could have shared a large with no problems. Lastly: I love their bathroom. It's gorgeous dark slate with golden and natural brown accents, complete with two red doors. And it has hands down the best bathroom sink fixture I have EVER SEEN ANYWHERE. There was even a small cabinet with a matching Buddhist statue. It was clean and of decent size, and because it's the Ave - see the cashier for the key. Now, Remedy is still my local fave - but this is a solid backup choice. read more

Tea houses rise up! I am always on the prowl for a good tea house. The more subdued vibe of the tea places I always find more conducive to getting work done or just some quiet conversation. The place seems to have a larger selection of flavored teas which probably speaks to flexibility of serving your selected tea hot or cold. Hot tea can be served in medium or large tea pot, you get one extra steep with the med tea pot. I don't see an option for small tea pot anywhere. Price ranges from $3.50-$4.00 for medium pots and $4-$4.50 for large pots. Decent variety of black, green, oolong and whites. Only have two yerba mate (green or roasted) and some rooibos. OCD tea drinkers may fret since they don't have timers for exacting steep times but the teas I tried really didn't get too bitter despite sitting in the pot indefinitely. I liked the green bancha tea I tried. Their are about 8 or so small tables with wicker seats line the side of the room and there is one almost overly soft couch and chairs to lounge in. The hours are fairly reasonable for a tea place with an 11 pm closing time on most days and a 12 am closing time on friday and saturday. Check this place out! read more

I just discovered this spot! Went in and got a cup of creme lavender earl grey. It tasted good even though I'm not a huge fan of lavender. The staff are really knowledge about the tea and they are super helpful when it came to questions. I was really excited to find out they carried thai tea leaves. I can make my own thai ice tea. The next day, my craving for their tea was so bad! I drove out of my way to get a cup. This time I got the strawberry fields. Holy moly, when I took my first sip I asked my boyfriend if that moment was real because it was sooooooooo good. You know when you drink flavored bubble tea you can taste all of that powder? No, this is not the same! It was light and didn't contain all of that heaviness from the powder if you were to get it at other places. I have also tried the iced vanilla monk.
