Stumbling in on a foggy and grey SF summer day, this cafe had a very welcoming vibe once through the door Staff were very friendly I ordered my usual cafe test item: morning bun, as well as their specialty tea rx. The staff also brought me over a water as I waited The morning bun, as seen in the picture, had the middle fall out easily after I picked it up with my fork. Which is good! A mark of softness and not too sticky or hard on the outside. I was scared since the middle is always the best, but thankfully after gobbling up the middle, the rest was also soft on the inside albeit with a slightly harder exterior. Great morning bun. They also sprinkled cinnamon on top, reminiscent of having a nata. Beauty. The Tea Rx was BIG. I was not ready to be so caffeinated, served cold it has a hint of sweetness, no dryness or bitterness as with some teas. Just be prepared to nurse it, not chug it in 15 mins like me. Tea Rex Cafe is a gem in my neighborhood. I had the chicken quesadilla is my favorite dish to get here. It was so filling - crispy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. My husband ordered the breakfast quesadilla with crab meat, and wow -- it was loaded with egg, crab, and avocado. It's hard to finish everything. We also had the shakerato, which was very refreshing and gave me a caffeine hit (and actually not too sweet). I've been meaning to come to this cafe since it opened a year ago, and I'm so glad my friend invited me to Tea Rex today for tea & breakfast. First of all, it's so beautiful inside with lots of plants and artwork. The food is amazing and they give you such generous portions for good prices. My friend got the breakfast sandwich and I got the avocado toast & both came with really nice side salads. I ended up staying after to work and the owner and his brother were both so kind. Later, I got the banana bread fresh out of the oven & it was heaven. The elderberry tea was both delicious & immune boosting. The quinoa beet salad was so delicious & complex - beets, apples, balsamic, i think some (rehydrated) dried cranberries were in there too - and crispy onions. Perfection. The potato mushroom soup was also fire. It's a calm atmosphere, there's a couple of little tables outside, this is a great addition to the neighborhood (though we all miss St. Jorge!). I love Tea Rex and am so excited it's in the neighborhood! As someone who doesn't drink coffee, Tea Rex is like my dream come true. They have both spicy and sweet chais, nitro tea and coffee on tap, and you can get any espresso drink made with rooibos tea. They also have tons of different loose teas for sale (I'm drinking their chai that I brewed at home right now.) The teas are curated by type with great descriptions by a true aficionado. They also have a wide selection of high-quality food with tons of attention to detail like craigels, which is a cross between a croissant and bagel. My daughter got a Nutella one that was delicious, served warm, and with a little cup of Nutella to dip it in on the side. She also got a lemonade that changes color when you add a little cup of lemon juice, which was the coolest science experiment ever that also tasted delicious, the perfect combination of sweet and tart. My partner got a ham and cheese croissant, which was a warm ham and cheese sandwich on a croissant served with a side salad for like $9. They also have mochi waffles, breakfast, soups, sandwiches, treats. All sorts of things. The two guys working the counter are really sweet and welcoming. I went to Tea Rex today. They are very nice. It was very clean and apleasant environment. There is wifi and plenty of seating if you want to sit and work or visit with friends. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is right on Mission at the front door. I did notice an electrical outlet so charging is available. I did not notice how many as I was not using a computer or phone. The options on the menu are plentiful. My friend had avocado toast. It was presented beautifully. It had salad greens and a slice of fruit along with the toast. I was seeking a nice tea. THere were so many options and certain ones are special and others are regualr. Everyone could find a tea they like with the varying selection. I tired the rose. It was wonderful. I will absolutely return for that tea! Loved it. Our beverages were served in a hefty mug. When they brought it to the table it was a pleasure to receive an amount that was not going to consumed in minutes. They offer two types of chai, both a sweet and spicy. I never see two options at one place. One they make in house. They also offer non fat milk in addition to other options. Often places no longer have non fat. That was a bonus in my mind. We were there almost three hours. It was delightful. I recommend Tea Rex for a quick drop in or as a place to set up and enjoy lunch or a beverage and accomplish your computer tasks. I also really like the way they post their food options. It is large size on colored paper on the wall. You do not need to ask for a menu as it is so clear. Great place.
