Turning into the place is a little confusing as the hotel does not have an entrance on highway 11. You either need to pull into the Comfort Inn next door and drive over the gravel into the hotel, or pass the Toyota dealership, go on a back street and follow the signs to access the hotel. My wife would not let me do the check-in. Being a Hilton diamond member in a non-Hilton town she was afraid that I'd say something. So I cannot comment on the check-in process. Access cards for the rooms are proximity cards. If it were a Hilton, I'd be able to use my blackberry to open the door... For the month of August they are doing a promotion where they are serving free pancakes all evening from 8pm-midnight. When we were down at 8:30, there was a line. We came back at 9:30 and the pancake machine was breaking down. Since it was working the next morning, I'm assuming that the lady just didn't know how to properly change the bag of pancake batter. Still she was gracious and started serving cinnamon buns in lieu of pancakes. Our room was a 2 bedroom suite. My wife had read this to be a room with two bedrooms. What this really mean was that you had a living room, and the two beds were in a different room. Once again, my wife is my own worst enemy, as we had to share the room with two of our three kids. The third slept on the sofa bed. We also used the pool, and hot tub. Both were clean, and the five of us had the place to ourselves for an hour. The next morning we partook in the free breakfast. I have my staple of oatmeal and low sugar yogurt. My kids had boiled eggs, juice, cinnamon buns, cereal, scrambled eggs, and pancakes.

Make sure you don't drive into the snowmobile trial and get stuck in the ditch (like me). I didn't realize that a mini stop sign is NOT meant for cars. BREAKFAST: A nice spread that includes a hot bar. There are scrambled eggs, bacon and warm cinnamon rolls. As well, there is yogurt, bread, cereal and decent coffee. Quiet, Clean and Comfortably Restful …read more.. We had come to enjoy KIRKLAND LAKE'S CENTENNIAL 2019 SUMMER HOMECOMING celebrations, driving up from Shelburne, Ontario. This was our second visit to the Gold Country Motel as we had enjoyed our stay there last year. Our party occupied two rooms and everyone agreed this was a great place to stay! Last year we thoroughly enjoyed the ATLANTIC COD FISH AND CHIPS dinners which they had cooked especially for us and then kindly brought the meals to our rooms since we had arrived late and hungry and the restaurant had already officially closed. The food was delicious! This year we spent most of our time enjoying Kirkland Lake's 100 Year festivities eating our food at close restaurants in town but we would not have hesitated to eat at the Gold Country Restaurant had we been around there at lunch or dinner time. The rooms were pleasantly decorated with restful colours. The flat screen Satellite TV, microwave and small refrigerator worked flawlessly! The beds and "pillow top" mattresses gave each one of us a very restful and comfortable sleep for each of the two nights we stayed! We remembered similar experiences from our previous stay. Our hostess Jill happened to be outside as we arrived and she remembered us, recognised us and came right over to our car to welcome us and to offer help as needed. Our hosts, Bill and Jill, were very courteous, happily smiling and laughing at our jokes! "Jack" joked and we laughed about "Jack and Jill going up the hill..."! I would not hesitate to recommend Bill and Jill and their Gold Country Motel as a WONDERFUL place to stay! We their patrons were treated fairly and with kindness and respect! Way to go Bill and Jill. The rooms are large, if not somewhat spartan - it would make Scandinavian minimalism blush. It's clean and the premises are kept in good condition. You get a flat screen TV. WiFi is reliable. There are no breakfast offerings because, up here, you're expected to hunt for your meals (for you city dwellers, there are some muffins and coffee in the lobby). The heater works as you would expect it to. The pillows are more comfortable than they look. All in all, I slept pretty well here.

Of…read moreall the hotels I've stayed in, this is by far the worst one The outside looks rundown, like the motels you see on Dundas Street down in London. You know the kind that charges like $30 a night and caters to a trucker who just wants a cheap place to stay for a rest after driving for 12 hours, or to drug addicts. The rate per night is astronomical, $175. I don't even think the Delta in London, one of the nicest hotels in that city charges that much per night. They claim to have a game room, and they do, but most of the games don't work and are close to 20 years old, if not older. - They still have the game Vigilante from 1986, no surprise, it doesn't work. There's also a very badly warped pool table and NO chalk for the pool cues. The rooms aren't much better, looking like something that would have been passable in 1995 and they're still running on old CRT's and the cable reception is terrible. Me thinks is what they did was split the one connection many many times, which results in a very snowy picture. It's in the middle of nowhere, so walking down to Micky D's or Subway is out of the question. The breakfast in the morning was adequate, and I loaded up on free yogurts, that was about the only positive thing going for this dump.
