He came home to open this place with local partners Tim Norwood and Cooper Thomas. He's since also been recognized by Southern Living for the Florence spot. The whole hog is smoked over pecan wood in a custom pit right beside the dining room, sourced from local pasture-raised hogs. I had the giant pit-smoked pork steak -- slow-smoked, vinegar-pepper mopped, excellent. Sides were the BBQ hash and rice and the collard greens; the rice and mushroom gravy is also worth getting. Being attached to Seminar Brewing means a full lineup of house beers on tap alongside the barbecue. There are pool tables in the lounge for hanging out after eating, and soft serve ice cream to close things out.
