What can I say about Teds Auto Clinic that hasn't been said before by both myself and countless others. You will never find a more honest mechanic in your lifetime. The staff here is just awesome and just really cares about you and the safety of your vehicle. A couple of days ago I started hearing a noise coming from my left front tire area so I called yesterday and they told me to come in and they would take a look at it. Turns out it was a loose bolt on the left front strut which they tightened no charge. WHAT? Now that is awesome and that is why I keep coming back. There are very few times and places in life you feel as welcome and as free as you will with Ted at his shop!! From the minute I called to the minute I showed up it was nothing but smiles and satisfaction!! I came with a car that broke down on 294 got towed by his buddy didn't have to pay upfront! On top of that he gave me a free thorough Check up and even though eventually the bear ate me and didn't have a chance to rebuild that car. Ted gave me an honest precise and very sound advice not to put an extra penny in that car any more. He even gave me almost a wk to figure out what to do with the car. The guy has no rush!!He didn't even charge me a cent! I needed my breaks replaced and an oil change, so naturally I checked Yelp for reviews. I contacted Ted's through Yelp. I received a response and made an appointment for Wednesday with George within an hour. I dropped my car off around 730 and by 8, I received a call with a quote on the repairs. George explained what was needed and also made some recommendations that needed attention in the next few months. He did not try to sell me anything that was not needed and I was glad to hear that my vehicle was still in good condition. My car wouldn't start the day after Christmas so AAA towed me to Ted's Auto Clinic (my AAA tow truck driver recommended them). Upon arrival, George was courteous and professional! He was able to diagnose and fix the issue the next day and made recommendations on different issues that I needed to address in the near future, whether they could be addressed at Ted's or not. He even recommended where I could get those services. He didn't overcharge me and even replaced a bulb that was out! I was more than pleased with the customer service and overall experience. We were passing through the Chicago area on a cross country road trip and on the way into Illinois, a piece of plastic fell out of place in front of our left tire and began dragging along the pavement while we drove. We found Ted's on the list of AAA approved mechanics and called the next morning. They helped us get an appointment as early that morning as possible since we were on a tight schedule. When we got there, they took a look and said it was a splash guard that had fallen loose since it had been shoddily repaired by someone else previously. They said it had to be fully repaired by a body shop at some point but they offered to patch everything back together securely so that we could get back to our road trip in a timely manner. They didn't charge us ANYTHING for this repair. To top it all off the man who received us at the front counter and gave us all the info was incredibly friendly and kind. Let's be honest, going to a mechanic is like going to the dentist, you hate to go unless you really need to. Unless you are a certified mechanic or know someone you TRUST, it's very hard to get good service or at least a good honest price. I have been here once before for failed emissions, fixed btw. Now that the frigid Chicago weather has arrived, my 04 Altima started having steering "stiffness". I can handle simple jobs like brakes, tune ups, and oil changes. But I don't have all the tools necessary for a "big job". With that said, I researched my cars symptoms and came up with 1) bad steering pump, 2) u joint of lower steering rack 3) rack and pinion (huge $$$$). I emailed George about my issue, asked specific prices, set up an appt and told me how long it would take. The next day it snowed and was (very) late for my appt, but George still took my car in as Walk-in although they had several cars in there already. One of the mechanics (I'm assuming that's Ted) took it for a test drive, brought it in the shop and 15 min later, a diagnosis. U joint lower steering rack. Price tag $275 including the price for diagnosis. From the time I took it in and when it was done 4hrs later,1 hr faster than was expected (diagnosis, ordering the part,and installation).The main thing I really want to point out is, they will not give you outrageous prices, they will not add on parts you do not need, (in my case can't afford), George is a very honest guy with honest prices. Don't try bringing in a part you bought from eBay or any parts store because they will not install it, which is not a big deal because their parts are covered by a 2 yr warranty/24,000 miles. I am delighted to find a reliable, knowledgeable, and honest auto repair business. The passenger side window on my Hyundai Genesis Coupe was going crazy. When I tried to close it, it would go up and down wildly before stopping in the half-open position. My daughter recommended Ted's. I called and Chris was very nice on the phone. He told me when to bring it in and even gave directions to the shop. It's quite a ways from my home, but it was well worth the drive. When I arrived, George listened to my description of the problem. He was pretty sure he knew what was wrong even before looking at the car. He told me two scenarios - the easy inexpensive one and the more expensive one with a longer wait. Within minutes, my car was fixed. It was the easy repair and the charge - only $40! I live on the city's northside and though there are many options for mechanics, I prefer to drive the 40 minutes to Ted's since I can trust them. They are honest, reasonable, and fast. This place rocks! I don't know anything about cars and a friend recommended this place to me. They gave me an estimate over the phone and when I brought it in, they called me after a few hours and told me that the problem was less complicated to fix than originally estimated and therefore the cost would be less. Are you kidding me? They also took the car for a ride to see if everything was ok since I was a first time customer. They found everything to be fine and no additional repairs and charges were necessary. They explained everything they did to my car so even I could understand. Ted's Auto Clinic, Inc. is a fantastic business. I am on a road trip across the country and stayed in Chicago for a few days. At this point in my trip I needed an oil change and a general checkup to ensure my car would make it the next few thousand miles. I was expecting to get ripped off anywhere I went, especially since I was not from the area, but I had a incredible experience with this business. The gentleman at the service desk not only changed my oil for a more than reasonable price, but vacuumed my car floor, and offered to do a brief inspection of the car since I was on a road trip. There was nothing wrong with my car, but they did itemize a few things that I would need to do in the near future. They really went the extra mile with my car in terms of service and quality of work. This family owned business is the only place I will take my car if I am in Chicago again and I wish there was such an honest and high quality mechanic shop where I live.
