However, I think St Joseph Catholic Church should also be on that list since there is a lot of rich culture behind it. A little history lesson about this beautiful church. Saint Joseph was built back in 1868 by a group of German Catholic Immigrants (same group that started Beethoven Maennerchor). The church is a Gothic style building and the stained glass windows are absolutely breathtaking. Compared to the cathedral it is much smaller, but equally as beautiful. The congregation here is much smaller compared to other churches because of the decline on our German population, however they try to stay authentic to their roots and incorporate some German during some of the masses. Definitely a must visit place for catholics or just anyone that loves architecture and history!

First time I went to this Huge church…read more Get there early , parking is a bear! the lot was full, the side street parking was full and it's off of busy Bandera. The music was extremely loud, they'll give you ear plugs. Everyone is very welcoming. Since parking delayed us , the service had already started and The lights were low so someone helped find seats. The sermon was absolutely wonderful and hit home! They have a 3 month seminar, PTO ( Peel the Onion) that ends in a retreat. My friend and I decided to sign up for the class and it has been extremely helpful in processing issues. Glad my friend invited me to her church.

I met a friend in the cafe after the first service. Overflow seating there with screens. And not your typical church coffee. It was great...Ethos Coffee. I ended up staying for service two. I was amazed at how the sermon was just as good the second time around. Pastor Pyle used different illustrations through out. I have a home church already, but this definitely got my attention.

I visited San Fernando Cathedral during the daytime, so I didn't get to see the evening light show…read morethat many people recommend. The cathedral itself is beautiful and historically significant, and I appreciated the chance to see one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States. Without the light show, the experience felt fairly brief. The architecture is impressive, but there wasn't much else to keep me there for very long. I can see why many visitors plan their trip around the nighttime projection show, as it seems to be a major part of the attraction. It's worth stopping by if you're already in the area, but I would recommend visiting in the evening to get the full experience.

Salads are picked up at SA Food Bank and should be for families standing in line for food. Food being given out after hours after turning people away who are being told you are too late. What a nice festival. The weather was perfect to be outdoors. It was the typical Catholic Church…read morefestival - nachos, chalupas, hamburgers, popcorn, corn-in-a-cup (one of my favorites), soda, enchiladas, the brisket and sausage plate. Taco Cabana was also there selling their tacos. The entertainment was big time - La Fenix and Bobby Pulido. I always wonder if the church has to pay full price for the bands they book or do they get a break? There was this addictive game. For a dollar you get eight iron rings, about 4 inches in diameter. The object is to toss them onto a platform covered with coins, pennies to quarters. If you land on one where they are centered in the ring, you get the coins. Definitely in the house favor. Ha, ha. Hell, it's a fundraiser. I did see a guy win $5. The folks running the booth were very nice. They gave my elderly aunt (87 years old yesterday) a chair to use while we were there. Who forgets to take chairs to a church festival? We did. A good time. Oh and $3 beer.
