Temple Ner Tamid is a welcoming, diverse, and musical congregation where members connect with their heritage while thinking progressively about the present. Our mission is to inspire our members to make our community more curious, connected, and just. We are a completely egalitarian and inclusive community. We welcome interfaith, LGBTQ, multiracial, seniors, couples, singles, adults with disabilities, families who have children with special needs, single-parents and families to join our congregation. Our worship is filled with prayer, meditations, soul-energizing music and thought-provoking teachings. We offer serious learning opportunities for both adults and children, as well as a broad and enriching slate of cultural experiences. Making new friends, discovering the warmth and joy of Shabbat, and working to "repair the world" are just some of the things that define Ner Tamid. Membership offers the opportunity for involvement. Planning programs, visioning for the future, singing in the Purimspiel, volunteering in the Religious School, visiting the sick and participating as Shabbat and shiva minyan worship leaders all reflect our deeply-held conviction that the synagogue is not an institution but a community. History

Established in 1980.

The formation of Temple Ner Tamid ("Eternal Light") was the result of a truly historic decision. Reasoning that the needs of a Jewish community take precedence over individual ideological differences, the leadership of Temples B'nai Zion and Menorah came together to create a single synagogue committed to both liberal values and traditional expression. Following months of meetings in private homes as well as the two congregations, a consolidation committee led by Julius Fisher (z"l) and Manny Rothenberg (z"l) helped to create Temple Ner Tamid. On a sunny day in June of 1980 the Torahs of Temple B'nai Zion were paraded down Broad Street and entered into the sanctuary of the newly dedicated Temple Ner Tamid. Beth Sholom Reform Temple joined the Ner Tamid community from the Passaic & Clifton area in 2010.

Meet the Manager: Rabbi Marc K.

Rabbi Katz graduated from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in 2012 and began work as assistant rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Rabbi Katz served a total of ten years at CBE, eventually attaining the title of associate rabbi. During his time at CBE, in addition to his regular clergy duties (leading services, conducting funerals, visiting sick congregants, officiating at weddings), Rabbi Katz oversaw CBE's conversion program and Basic Judaism class, taught in the middle school and High School programs, ran a yearly trip to Israel, directed all b'nei mitzvah students on their Divrei Torah, and taught a host of adult classes including a weekly Talmud and parenting class. Rabbi Katz is also the author of book: The Heart of Loneliness: How Jewish Wisdom Can Help You Cope and Find Comfort (Jewish lights) which was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award.
