Full disclosure, I'm applying my American bowling alley experiences on this review. I don't mean to, I just don't have any other "measuring stick".
First, the arcade area is pretty robust. Lots of different games, both ticket games and regular games (ones that don't give you tickets). I think the prices are a little expensive, but then again, this is the UK, so I guess it's par for the course.
Bowling. I was surprised at how expensive bowling was on a Friday late morning/early afternoon...not exactly high traffic times. There were great deals on Thursday and Sunday evenings (10 pounds for two games and an appetizer), but apparently Friday afternoon is where they make their money back. Three bowlers, two games a piece (total of 6 games) was 35 pounds (roughly 50 dollars). The upside of this was shoes are included in the price, or you can simply bowl with your tennis shoes on; however, even factoring this in (three pairs for $2.75 a pair) we still paid about $40 for six games of bowling.
The lanes are in decent shape, though the approach is in rough shape (thanks to no bowling shoes). The house balls are in rough shape, however, with 9/10 of the balls having divots, marks...basically it looks like someone has been rolling the balls down an asphalt driveway. If you are planning to come to Edinburgh to break your league high, I would pick a different lane.
Overall, it was a nice break for the kids, but the cost of bowling and the shape of the equipment (balls and lanes) outweighed the benefit of me not having to rent shoes, and made the excursion to Tenpin not worth it in my opinion. read more
