That being said this place has some pretty big issues, at least to me. Their sound system sucks. Plain and simple. I went once and the building's PA system that they were speaking over was popping and cracking like a piece of wet firewood. I thought, "Surely they'll get that fixed before the next show, because that was no good." The next time I went to an event almost 6 months later they hadn't replaced the system and the speakers actually went out about 15 minutes into the show. Which pretty much ruined the whole night. Another time I was at a show there and went to the bathroom on the first floor. Every urinal and stall was taken but one. I opened the door and it looked like someone had backed into the stall after eating eating 50 Exlax laced White Castle Sliders and washed down with a couple of gallons of coffee and had their ass explode. It was one of the 3 nastiest things I've ever seen in person. I swear that the toilet had been filled to overflowing with crap and it was on the floor and walls of the stall. I didn't know that a single human being could hold that much feces. Either that or someone was running through the bathroom with a 5 gallon bucket of chilli, tripped,and dumped the contents into the toilet. At any rate, ever since that night the first floor men's bathroom at the Shrine Mosque no longer exists in my mind. It has been edited out of my universe. I realize that this was an isolated incident, but it was horrible. If I could have given 2.5 stars I would have, but it's not bad enough for 2 stars.

This building houses the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners which I am a member of. Where I understand a lot…read moreof people do not understand what the Shriners do, I'm not going to explain a whole lot of it here but would love to explain it to you if you have any questions and will also provide a link at the end of this to help explain more about that. The Shrine Mosque was built in 1923 and in 1982 was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Besides Shriner events it houses tons of other concerts and events. It almost seems that there is something going on every weekend there. I just helped out for the past two weekends as a clown at the Shrine Circus. It is a very unique old building that several of our past Presidents have visited and Elvis Presley even played. At the time it was built it was the largest Shrine west of the Mississippi and it's stage size was only second to the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York City. The main auditorium seating is right under 5,000 people with a basement area that other events are held at that can seat over 1,500. The employees were friendly as we entered the foyer and helped us select our seats; however, they then informed us that "because it's a free showing masks are required". I paused and considered this information. I walked away in frustration, but ended up going back to ask for clarification questions. I got confirmation that if I PAY for a ticket to watch a movie, I would have the freedom to not wear a mask, but when there's no MONEY involved, apparently the science changes and suddenly masks are required to save everyone's lives. I won't start a debate over the validity of masks on this review, that's not the point. The issue I have is that they "recommend" masks for paying customers and "require" masks for non-paying customers. I imagine they'd be hard pressed to explain the "science" behind that decision. Again... employees were pleasant; policies... not. I will never return.

I hadn't been to the new location until I came here for a movie this past weekend with some friends of mine, and I had such a good time, I think I could have sat and watched another one if time had permitted. I sat in for The Grand Budapest Hotel after watching previews for several films that I ACTIVELY WANTED TO SEE, as opposed to enduring a somewhat nonsensical thread of cinematic barf. An amazing aspect of The Moxie is its dedication to real, true businesses - right down to its concessions options. Gourmet chocolate bar with orange peel? Yup. Izze soda? Got it. Wine? Wait. Hold the phone. There's WINE here? I can have WINE with my excellently hip indie film? Someone snatch me up a blanket made of alpaca wool and let's do this thing! And the prices are refreshingly NOT blasphemous, as opposed to chain cinema concession stands. The new Moxie is somehow just the old Moxie on a different street - as in, it retained its upbeat, modern, blocked red-and-black scheme in the best possible way - with a few new art installations thrown in. The new auditoriums are even better, though. They're bigger yet cozier and the red seats (which are super comfy on your buns, by the way) remind you where you are even after you're away from the lobby. You're at The Moxie, and you're enjoying yourself. The staff seems great, too. The college-ish girl running the register at the front popped into the theater before our show began and gave a short little talk about another movie coming up, which was not insignificant in the sense that it really showed that this theatre is loved. As Ebert and Roeper would say (because they review movies and stuff, get it? Ha ha ha...): two thumbs up!

In Ozark, Mo., that one place is the Stained Glass Theatre (SGT), with its beautiful courtyard and welcoming atmosphere. The volunteers greet you with a smile, and the heartwarming chapel reminds me of sitting in an old country church. And on top of that, you have the fabulous set designs, the amazingly talented cast, and the outstanding backstage crew that brings it all together; it's a perfect place to spend your time. However, I think the best thing about SGT is that you can feel Jesus there. Their motto is "Serving Christ Through The Arts," and I can't imagine a better way to tell people what they stand for. In addition, they put on faith-based shows that are family-friendly, so you can feel comfortable there whether you are on a date, watching with your spouse and kids, your church group, or your parents. If you haven't been to Stained Glass Theatre, you're missing out. They change shows throughout the year, so grab yourself a season pass and enjoy it all year long. I am a Big with BBBS, so I know firsthand what a good organization it is, and how important that fundraisers like Beerfest are for our community. Soapbox aside, Beerfest is fun. Take a group of friends and enjoy an afternoon of beer tasting and nice people. Parking is easy, but they have cab services available if you need it. There are tons of booths from local and major craft breweries, and everything is free (yes, even the amazing salted caramel ice cream with bourbon candied bacon from Buckinghams...swoon). There are reps at every booth to help you discover new beers or learn how to make your own. The Homebrew Zoo has a large booth full of homebrewers that are proud to share their knowledge and let you try their creations. You can get a VIP ticket for a little more, which gives you collector glasses and early entry. Cops are meandering around, so everyone behaves. It's not a big sloppy drunkfest--there are no fights or loud people, so don't let an all day beerfest scare you away! It's worth it!

Bought tickets online and it stated the doors opened at 6 pm and show starts at 7 pm. Got there at 6:15 pm and were about 150 -200 ft from the entrance in line. It took till 7:15 to get to the door, in the rain. When we got to the door, we asked why the line was moving so ridiculously slow. They stated they were checking ID's. Its an all ages show. Instead of scanning tickets (the ones with the barcode), they were looking it up by name. Then, they stated anyone under 21 had to pay a $5 minor charge! No mention of this on the website, tickets or venue info. Just an outright money grab. Could have made some points up by foregoing the $5 and saying sorry we made you wait in the rain for an hour and miss the beginning of the show. Instead, we got attitude from the meat head working the counter. Be aware that this was a Christian music concert, so between sets the venue blared gangster rap with vulgar lyrics, knowing full well there were children in the crowd. Just absolutely classless. Won't be returning to this venue.
