One star for good food and wine (the cheese/charcuterie board is an excellent value and the boquerones are tasty) , but the service is terrible. We're a local family that made it a point to come to dinner here at least once a month but our last visit was the last nail in the coffin. The younger waitress has never once smiled and has is always been all business but at least she doesn't bully and antagonize her tables. The chef was gruff, rude, and treated us noticeably different from all of the tables. When he brought out our bottle of wine and I said "yay that looks great!" he paused, gave me a dirty look, and said "you're determined not to have a good time, aren't you?"-- despite this being the first thing I said to him and his waitstaff directly beyond our order. Shocked, and not wanting to ruin the dinner for my dining companion, I brushed it off, but promised myself I would not return. The chef makes it a habit to complain about how busy he is, how understaffed he is, but also how long people take at tables-- and also seemingly makes arbitrary decisions about who and what he takes offense to. If the chef stays in the kitchen and gets waitstaff that understand what providing good customer service for -everyone- looks like, we'll be back, but at this rate and reading other reviews it looks like pigs will fly before that happens! read more

Tentempié Madrid is a gem in Mamaroneck. It's cozy and intimate, with only about five or six tables. The owner runs the front of house while his wife cooks in the kitchen, and together they create an experience that feels personal, warm, and authentically Spanish. The food was phenomenal. We shared a mixed cheese and meat board to start. Then came the ham croquetas (the flavor changes daily, and we lucked out with my favorite), mini albóndigas (tender beef meatballs in tomato sauce) and champiñones (mushrooms in a rich brandy sauce). Every dish was flavorful and felt homemade. For dessert, we had the Torta de Santiago (almond cake), which was the special of the day -- light, nutty, and the perfect finish. The service was amazing. My partner had a really great dinner here - one of the most memorable and delicious we've had since moving to Westchester. We called same day for a weekend dinner at 8:30pm. The space is small and intimate with one waitress and about 10 tables. The menu was classic tapas. Be sure to ask what the daily special is, because the ham croquettes and spare rib specials were very good. Our favorite dish was the shrimp. I wanted to dip all of the bread in the remaining sauce. The crema Catalana, which is like a crème brûlée, was a great way to end the meal. Only wine and beer, but you'll certainly find something you like. High recommendation! read more

We've dined here a few times but likely won't be returning as there are other tapas spot in Westchester that offer better, friendlier service. The chef is great and personable, don't get us wrong. The receptionist /one other waitress who is sometimes there goes out of her way to make you feel not welcome. Yes, it is a tapas spot, but they should be able to accommodate one child (or any party that has a kid). On the phone she told me several times, "we don't have a kids menu", which I understand - my kid eats what we pack/snacks, but she kept discouraging us even from making a reservation, saying "I can't guarantee you a table (seated) v. the high-top." I guess it's okay if you're dining a full party of adults but with other tapas spots in the area like Buleria (love) and Basque (also good), it's hard to find a reason to come back here when she is just so unhospitable. My partner and I come to this restaurant every year for his birthday because it is one of his favorites. The food is consistently excellent and truly top-notch, but unfortunately the service is not. I hesitated to write this review, but after our most recent visit, I feel I need to share our experience so others are aware. Each time we have dined here, the owner has treated us noticeably differently from other guests. While he greets surrounding tables warmly, he is consistently curt and dismissive toward us. During our first visit, I politely asked if we could change tables, and he rolled his eyes and acted visibly annoyed, to the point that another couple nearby commented on it. After seating us, he rushed through our order and then spent the rest of the evening focusing on other tables. When we asked for a water refill, he ignored our request while refilling other tables without being asked. I am not sure if this treatment stems from that initial table request or something else, but as a Hispanic woman, it is difficult to ignore the pattern, especially after seeing similar comments from other Hispanic patrons in this review section. When I returned recently with family and friends, the behavior was the same. He avoided our table while giving extra attention to others who appeared wealthier or whiter. I do not want to make assumptions, but the difference in treatment was very clear. The final straw came when he took a photo for another table, accidentally bumped into one of my family members, and instead of apologizing, gave us an annoyed look as if we were in his way. To be clear, this review is not meant to discourage people from eating here. The food remains outstanding and is the only reason we have returned despite the poor service. However, I think future guests deserve to know that the dining experience can be overshadowed by unprofessional and, at times, discriminatory behavior. Again, I do not want to make assumptions, but the Spanish are not necessarily known for their tolerance and acceptance toward different racial groups. Even my partner, who has lived in Spain and understands the cultural nuances of dining there, agreed that the owner's attitude was unnecessarily rude. The restaurant would truly benefit from having someone else handle the front of house if the owner cannot provide all customers with the same respect and warmth. read more

Carlos the owner helped guide us on a wonderful unforgettable culinary adventure that was both eye opening and a delightful sensory trip. There were fantastic aged meats and cheeses from Spain unlike any I've ever had. Tender fresh pulpo that almost melts in your mouth. Croquetas that you'll never forget. Many others! It was a ghost town at 6 pm. About 20 empty seats. Only 1 table occupied. No one was really interested in greeting us, so I had to force the situation by actually explaining that I was there to exchange money for food/drinks/service. They told us that we couldn't be there without a reservation. I thought they must be kidding. 18+ empty seats and so early in the evening. We passed several very busy establishments. This was the only one with an issue. They never even thanked us for stopping by or invited us back. Just looked at is like we were interrupting something. This is not midtown Manhattan. Or NoMad. You've got to treat people better. I've got reservations for Goosefeather in Tarrytown tomorrow. I'm returning there after only 1 week because even though it's high-end and pricey, we were treated VERY well & the food was great with generous portions. Ironically they didn't have room for us when I stopped by last week. But they treated us as if our business was valued, then made accommodations for us. I dropped good money there and will drop even more tomorrow. I'll never know what the food is like at this little Spanish establishment because they don't understand the word "hospitality". I don't give out many 5 stars, but this entire experience deserves it. Having traveled to Spain, we felt as if we were teleported back as soon as we walked in to this restaurant. If you want authentic, delicious food in a warm, inviting atmosphere, Tentempié Madrid is where you want to be. Call ahead as this tiny restaurant fills up! When you enter, you won't feel rushed out, but expected to stay and dine. We wish we could have tried more, but since we were only 2 people, we'll have to return to work our way through the menu. We had pan con tomate, gazpacho (absolutely fantastic!), croquetas (a must order!), patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo. Rather than dessert, we decided we had to try the tapa del día which was pork medallions with mushrooms (perfectly cooked!) and a cheese board which was a perfect ending. Service was amazing (so friendly and they are moving nonstop!), food was perfection, it was a really wonderful evening. We stopped at this lovely little tapas bar after catching a film across the street. Featuring a menu full of crowd favorites, it was the quality ingredients that elevated every dish we tried. They also have an excellent, if small, collection of Spanish wines. But why Tentempie gets five stars is how obvious a passion project this is. The chef/owner went out of his way to share insights on each dish and to make sure each table was having a blast. It made you feel like you were sharing a meal in his home kitchen. The Gambas an ajillo, shrimp in garlic oil was incredibly tender with spicy herbs. One of the better dishes I've had in a long time. But then we weren't crazy about the meatballs with almonds and white wine sauce. There was a sweet ingredient in there somewhere that we didn't care for. I dined here the other day and had a very enjoyable meal. The tapas and red sangria were fantastic, I felt like I was back transported to Spain. My favorites were the lamb, croquettes, paella, garlic shrimp and steak. All were flavorful. The service was also excellent. WOW! We were looking to try something in Mamaroneck-about 15 minutes from our home. We both love Tapas and have tried a number of restaurants that specialize in Tapas. This place feels so warm and personable--almost like being at someone's home in Madrid. The server gave us an introduction to the menu and then shortly after, the Chef/Owner gave us a more detailed description of the Tapas. It was a flavorful combination of Chef recipes and unique tapas that are not just from Barcelona area, for example. Everything that we tried was a standout. My only recommendation is to add more and slightly larger cheese slices to your mixed plate--there was more meat on it. Desserts were great. This review is a compilation of multiple visits to Tentempie. This is the hottest new restaurant on the avenue in Mamaroneck. If you love wine (who doesn't) and you love small plates you must come for dinner! All of the dishes are fresh and delicious. First, the seating is simple and if you want to dine on the weekend i highly recommend you make reservations. Otherwise, it's standing room only. The restaurant is cozy and smells so good. It's run by Carlos and Fiorella and they make an awesome team of service and hospitality. I have ordered all of the hot tapas and my favorite is the Gambas al ajillo (shrimp). They are to die for. If you've ever spent time in Spain you will also love the Chef Carlos' spin on Pan con tomate. I can go on and on about all of the food; I'm sure that's the point of Yelp, but if you like tapas and wine, you cannot go wrong. Be sure to have the mixed board of aged meats and cheeses, simply divine. We are very happy to have some diversity of flavor on the avenue. Highly recommend the paella, although it takes time to prepare (as mentioned on the menu, so they are upfront with the wait), as it is made fresh per order. For a party of two, 4 tapas dishes were plenty. During the summer months, ask for the Tinto de Verano, a off menu red wine drink (similar to sangria) perfect for a warm summer evening. I visited Tentempié about two months ago and had an amazing experience! The food is authentic and so tasty. We ordered patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, pan con tomate, a salad (which was simple but sooo delicious) and a special they had of chorizo and chicken skewers. I got a pineapple sangria, which was to die for, and my friend had a red sangria, which she enjoyed! The chef also came out to see how we were enjoying everything, which was so thoughtful. The food was very good. We especially enjoyed the stuffed peppers and chorizo. The service however, was not good. From the moment we walked in, we felt like the staff was not happy about us being there as another table to serve, and even my daughter was uncomfortable with the treatment. Delicious food, authentic ambiance, and Carlos and Fiorella (the owners) are wonderful! My girlfriend and I moved just down the block 2 weeks ago and we've already been back three times. Every time we've had lunch/dinner we've been treated like family and thoroughly enjoyed the company and the food. I most enjoyed the roasted potatoes, the Iberian chorizo sausage, and the portobello mushrooms in wine sauce to start, but you can't really go wrong. Great experience at this restaurant! The staff was very knowledgeable, the chef took the time to come and explain the menu and at the end to see how our experience was. We had a variety of items including the lamb skewer, shrimp in garlic, sausage of the day, patatas bravas and pan con tomate. They were all delicious, well seasoned, nicely presented and just well made with fresh ingredients. For drinks we had cava, sangria and beer, all delicious. For dessert we had the Churros which came served with a thick hot chocolate, they were warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This is a gem of a restaurant and I recommended it to everyone. By the way Covid procedures are in place with staff wearing masks and gloves. Additionally there is plexy glass between tables.
