The history of this location dates back to the mid-10th century when it existed as a hill fort, then transforming into several iterations--including a royal castle, a city, then a Baroque fortress--the form of which it maintains today. As for places to visit within the park, the top point of interest is the Bazilika sv. Petra a Pavla (Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul), filled with wall-to-wall Art Nouveau murals as well as Baroque and Gothic art and architectural elements. The cemetery behind the church is crowded with many memorials though beautiful, with a number of famous Czechs buried here. It's free to walk in the cemetery and the church entrance fee is 130 CZK for regular adult entrance, 70 CZK discounted, 250 CZK for families. There are regular masses held in this church. The fortress casemates* are open to visitors, such as Gorlice Hall which is repurposed as a display hall for four of the original statues from the Charles Bridge; Casemates of Podolí are underground corridors that served as air-raid shelters during WWII, and remnants of what used to be a Baroque masonry retrofitted for different purposes throughout the years; Casemates to Redan was completed in the 18th century by the French army and served as an artillery embankment and provides views overlooking the river. Ticket prices vary depending on the specified Casement, regular and discounted prices available. I will mention that not having prior knowledge of these areas prior to visiting the park, it wasn't immediately obvious that these sections were open to visitation. You may need to ask around to the location of these entrances. In the Gothic Cellar are the remains of what used to be part of the palace structures built during the reign of Charles IV, during the second part of the 14th century, then destroyed by Hussite troops in the early 15th century. Used as a small museum displaying Vyšehrad's history and artifacts, this space is currently undergoing renovation and preparations for a new permanent exhibit to open in May 2026. The grounds around the park include paved pathways and raised areas along the walls, there are both disability accessible and non-accessible areas. There are some administrative buildings on the property that have facilities for smaller performances and events. Finally they were found. They committed suicide after fighting heroically with the nazis. Today you can visit the Krypta and see the marks of the gunshots in the window. This is an aspect of WWII history about which I knew very little before visiting this museum. The…read moredisplays were quite interesting with English descriptions available. The memorial to the heroic challengers of Nazi oppression who died fighting during this series of events was appropriate and well done. Being at the place at which these brave men died was seminal to the experience. It was not hard to be caught up in the drama of the events while reading the account of their last moments when the Nazis closed in on them. It was also particularly poignant to read about the rounding up and execution of their collaborators. This is typically not listed as one of the top tourist sites in Prague. I definitely recommend adding this to your itinerary if you have any interest at all in WWII history or local culture. The nominal fee (75 CZK, or about $3 USD at the time I visited) is well worth it.

But there is…read moreanother place that isn't far away, that holds a lot Prague history, and is a lot less crowded than the attractions in the center of the city and the castle area. I can't pronounce or spell the name, however that does not diminish how cool this place is. If you make the trip out here there is a cemetery behind the church which is home to a lot of important people. The church itself is also worth a look, it is old, ornate, and beautiful like the overwhelming majority of church buildings in Prague. I would consider this place more of a national or state park, there are lots of places to walk around, lots of open fields, places to play, relax, and stunning views of the river and beyond. There is also a cafe which is perfect for grabbing a snack and ofcourse, a cup of coffee. If you want a break from the hustle bustle of Prague, and would like to enjoy more Parkish type atmosphere with history galore, I recommend you take a trip here. We are glad we did.

You won't end up with a comprehensive understanding of Czech theatre history, or surrealism, or social commentary through art, but you will end up knowing some really specific details about a few particular artists. The cafe on the ground floor with its outdoor space is absolutely delightful. The pastries are super inventive and taste incredible. The people-watching is great too! Overall, this is a great place to go for a mix of history, culture, and a taste of contemporary life in Prague.

What a stunning view! Honestly you can't go wrong with any panoramic view of Prague, it's such a…read morepicturesque city! This tower was built in 1891, a 63.5 meter version of the Eiffel Tower, located centrally in Petrin Gardens which is a large park area directly south of the Prague Castle plateau (the closest section of the park being only 5 minutes away by foot). The tower itself is about a 30 minute walk from the castle, with some gentle slopes, not too steep. It's helpful to download G-maps in advance as cell signal can get weak in certain areas. There are also a number of different trails so better to be prepared and save yourself some extra wandering, though with the number of periodic signs and other visitors you shouldn't get too lost. If you're approaching the hill from the east, there's funicular that takes you uphill from the lower section of the city though when I was there this was under repair, (that might've been why the tower wasn't so crowded too?) Timed tickets are available to purchase in advance and this is recommended during peak tourist season. Prices vary depending if you purchase in-person or ascend the tower by stairs or elevator. 220CZK purchased at the tower in person, 290CZK for online ticket. 150CZK for use of the elevator. In mid-autumn on a weekday evening around 5:30pm the crowd was pretty thinned out (maybe bc the funicular was down). I think there were 2-3 parties in line when I purchased my ticket at the counter inside the entrance. Thankfully the staff was friendly and spoke much better English than I had any clue about Czech, the transaction was smooth, and up the stairs I went! The climb up wasn't bad, a mini workout of 299 steps with a good-sized middle platform to rest if you like and admire the views from an outdoor observation deck. The top level is an enclosed area with 360 degree views. Winding around the center of the tower is a double helix staircase; one staircase goes up, the other down. They're strict in enforcement. Also the stairs are partially covered though partially open to the elements so in the case of inclement weather be wary. Once you're on the middle and top decks, the views are stupendous! On a partially sunny late evening you could see for miiiles. Bathrooms are not located in the tower so if you need the closest ones are paid about 25CZK (€1), only exact change accepted.

You stop first at a large platform less than halfway up -- to pretend you're admiring the views while catching your breath -- then proceed to the smaller top. There is an elevator for additional fee, but the walk is half the fun for those able to do it.
