I have had insurance with Pioneer Heritage, Bird Island - Hawk Creek, and Grinnell Mutual Insurance…read moreon my homes (3), cars (5) and boats (2) for over 10 years. Last fall we made a changes to our auto insurance, which we do every fall. We put one car in storage (comprehensive coverage) and activated another to full coverage. Before we left on our trip to travel (by car because of Covid) we paid our auto premiums in full. At the time because we made the changes we were not sure if we owed more money or they owed us a credit. We have done this for years. When we returned home for the Christmas holiday we had called them to add insurance on another home. I spoke with Amanda (who usually helps us and she was aware of our changes) she told me that we did not have insurance on our auto because we did not pay the premium dues ($30.15). We could not believe what she was telling us. I asked why we were not notified, she said that notices were sent out. I ask why they/she did not call or email us about the amount due on the new premium. She told me that they do not do that. In fact, they had notified us many times, by email and or phone in the past that either they owed us money or we owed them. I did check with the local USPS office and they had a bag of junk mail and our notices from Pioneer Heritage, Bird Island - Hawk Creek, and Grinnell Mutual Insurance. We had our mail forwarded to our travel location and received our other mail. You can't rely on the mail to see if we have insurance or not? They should have called us for $30. We could not believe that they would treat good, loyal customers in this way. We had been driving around the country for almost two months and had no auto insurance. I ask how they could treat customer in this way. As insurance agents what service do they provide, just take our money and not care whether had insurance or not (after 10 years) Needless to say we have moved all of our insurance coverage to another agent and carrier, not with Bird Island - Hawk Creek, and Grinnell Mutual Insurance. When I was shopping for new insurance the first thing I asked is how would they handle this situation. All of them have told me that they we would never want to lose a customer, and that's part of our customer service to notified the customer in one way or another. In the end we were able to save over $2000 (one year). Shame on us for being such loyal customers of someone that could care less about us.
