I had such an amazing trip, and the negative experience I had at this airport was my last memory of France. The workers are rude and racist, and this is the worst airport experience I've ever had.
Pro: The inside is relatively new and there's a bunch of shops and Xbox gaming near the Gates. The bathrooms are pretty clean.
Con: Everything else. The lines are super slow because only 1 or 2 lanes (TSA, getting through customs, etc.) are open. Everything you buy something, aka water, require you to have your boarding pass. My mom likes to hang on to all our boarding passes to keep them all together, and I've never had an experience at any other airport where you need to show your boarding pass to buy something from the shops. I waited in line for a while to purchase an (overpriced) bottle of water, and when I got there, they said they couldn't let me buy it unless I present my boarding pass. After getting my boarding pass, I had to start once again from the end of the line to buy my bottle of water. Then, I walked by a store later that sells the bottle for cheaper...
The worst is when you start boarding. There were 2 lines, and they basically boarded everyone all at once. The guy questioned my family and another family extensively on our "intentions in France". (We were the only non-full white family so far that I've witnessed). He first started talking in French, and I couldn't understand because I was only accustomed to basic French phrases, not getting questioned intensely by airport staff. He got annoyed and switched to English. He asked me about my intentions in France, and I said vacation, and he was like where exactly did you go, where did you stay, how did you get to the airport, what is in my suitcase, who owns my suitcase, who packed my suitcase, did anyone else have access to my suitcase, and why I am traveling to the US (when I was holding a US passport). He didn't question the guy behind me...and even the guy behind me was confused about all the questions. Oh, and when I said I stayed at a hotel, he got annoyed and said I asked you whereas in the name of the hotel. Then my brother was selected for a random search, so while half of my family has boarded the plane (my dad and I), my brother had to open his luggage in front of the gate and be searched. According to my brother, the guy who did the actual search was very nice. My mom wanted to wait for my brother on the side while he got searched, and one of the agents yelled at her to get on the plane, and my mom was like can i wait for my son? and the agent threatened her saying that he will call security. Now, I understand there are rules of the airport, but what is not ok is to get very rude and threaten to call security without reasoning. All he had to do was say that according to policy, she must board and can't wait for my brother, and she would've complied. Then the guy was making rude comments about Americans and Chinese, which my mom couldn't comprehend, but we've experienced enough to understand.
The racism is blatant but there's nothign that can be done unfortunately. read more
