This is a very comfortable, well-run hotel in the heart of the Centro Historico of San Luis Potosi…read more It's reasonable, but offers well-appointed rooms, great bathrooms, and responsive service. You cannot go wrong with this location, right at the Plaza Fundadores, and steps away from the Plaza San Francisco, with its back streets of quirky craft-brew serving restaurants. Inside the rooms, you will find comfortable furnishings and excellent room service. If you ask for a room on a high floor facing the back, you will take in a great view of the city including several Spanish colonial churches and the hills to the south. With the lack of greenery in the desert area, the tiny little courtyard pool is a pretty oasis for guests. I was able to enjoy cool evening breezes there. Most of the fellow guests appeared to be on business travel related to the extensive auto industry in the area. The front desk sent up an engineer who fixed the lock on my safe. The beds were really fine. A slight (first world) complaint would be the curtains and carpets might be a bit outdated. I feel awkward even pointing that out and don't wish to ding the hotel for that. The Wi-Fi is free and quite adequate. The on-site breakfast buffet at their restaurant is highly recommended with an excellent Gordita chef-station and sweet service. Right outside their entrance are two to three coffee shops. Within a five minute walk are two excellent Mezcal bars and restaurants. They charge your credit card up front for the entire stay rather than charge it upon check out. So that is wierd but perhaps that is the common practice here.

The basement area has old tunnels that house a under ground spring. Most of San Luis Potosí at least the older parts still use the springs as their water source. The location is superb, right next to the beautiful Tangamanga Park with a view of the lake from one side of the hotel and a great view of the city from the other. They have a wonderful Canarias restaurant on the second floor, and it is connected to the Citadella Mall which has several other eateries, including an Argentinian restaurant, Toks, Pizza, a Krispy Kreme donut shop as well as several shops, a movie theater, gymnasium, ice skating rink, and casino. You can also walk easily to the Sam's Club and Walmart which are next to the mall. So the walkability is awesome. You can also use the pedestrian bridge to go to the Sanborn's and shopping center across the avenue. The hotel is about a 30 minute drive to the SLP Airport with both national and international flights. If you ask, the front desk will arrange a shuttle. Uber also has service within the city. The hotel security is very good. They have underground parking (valet service available), but you need a room key to access the floors with the hotel rooms. The hotel is decorated beautifully, is clean, well maintained, and the service was exceptional. The employees were professional, helpful and friendly. There is a sign to put out with your used towels if you don't want them changed, otherwise they will change them out for fresh towels when they do the cleaning service. They did my room every day I did not put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. My room was spacious and comfortable. There were plenty of pillows (down feather), great linens, reading lights on the headboard, blackout curtains, plenty of electrical outlets, and was equipped with a rain shower, ironing board and iron, coffee maker (single cup), lighted closet with a safe for valuables, good drawers for what you need to stow, a lighted vanity mirror in the sink area, plenty of thirsty towels, AC and heat, and, of course, a large screen TV, and free WiFi. While I did not use them, there is also a bar/lounge, a rooftop terrace, swimming pool, and well-equipped exercise room. Note: There is a charge for the parking if you use your own car. I really enjoyed my stay and think you will also.

One of the iconic places in town if you want to grab a piece of history. This location was built…read more387 years ago by an Spaniard and from there at one point it was the monastery of the St Agustin priests, which left a lot of different emblems, relics, paintings, and ornaments related to them. This place has 18 rooms all of them decorated like it was back in the 19th century, which takes you back to that time. There is a tunnel underneath that takes you to the building across the street, where a nice wine cellar along with dining tables is built under the street. The restaurant offers French and international cuisine. It has different rooftop patios with nice sightseeing to the city which is ideal for a romantic date with your significant other. If you don't stay here you can also purchase the museum tour which takes you through all this interesting place. A must see if you are in town!

My two complaints are as follows. 1, $250 dollars went missing from my room and the front staff and hotel security person were not apologetic, helpful nor seemed to care. 2, on the Saturday there were several wedding photo shoots inside the hotel which made it uncomfortable to enjoy the lobby. At night they had a quinceañera Party with loud music. I asked the front staff if that music was going to go on late because my groups had an early wake up. I was assured that the event would be over at 12:30 sharp. I felt more at ease after being told that. Well it was past 1:30 am and the loud music still continued. This hotel has no respect for its guests and after the party finally ended the young teenagers from the party who were staying at our hotel were loud , running around and it went on for a bit and hotel management allowed all this. In the morning when it was brought up to hotel staff they again did not apologize nor did they seem to care that we couldn't get a good nights sleep. For the amount of money we paid for the room the service and respect from the hotel staff is insulting. I suggest staying at Hotel Progreso.

We took a tour of the entire palace…read morewhich was $100 pesos each person and we learned a lot of history about this beautiful palace in the heart of downtown San Luis Potosí. Of course some part of this palace are refinished due to deterioration and not performing upkeep since the original owner died and had no next of kins so the building went to the local government and they took all the original furnishings and let the palace deteriorate until new owners stepped in to restore it. I bid to come here most months because I enjoy the people, love downtown San Luís, and the hotel staff are better than any other that I've experienced since I've been an airline pilot; most treat flight crews like second class citizens. The shuttle drivers are always prompt, and ready for us as soon as we clear customs, and are extremely polite, getting our bags before we can even set them down. The hotel receptionists are great, remember your name, speak excellent English, and have great advice on local attractions and food. Downtown is only a ten minute über ride that comes out to $3-4, and it is absolutely stunning with old and well maintained architecture, street vendors, plenty of stores, and great restaurants with rooftop seating. I've already posted my favorite, so check out my earlier reviews. There's also an excellent Brazilian streak house across the highway with a shuttle (or you can walk the five minutes), and you'll spend $15-20 on a meal that would cost $60 easy in the states. The rooms are always clean and made spotless. One thing that may through off a first timer to Mexican hotels is many require you to swipe your key card in the elevator, so you can access your floor (you can't go to any floor you want for safety, which I like). You can also go to PB (lobby) for their tasty breakfast, the pool, and their pretty decent hotel gym. If you are ever in San Luís or wondering where to visit in Mexico this is one of my favorite spots! Don't forgot to get your Wyndham points!
