For our last night in Guanajuato, we took a short six minute ride staying in the hills of Marfil to try a restaurant called Terraza Trattoria. Very popular with the Locals but not on Yelp apparently. Up a very narrow street, we parked and walked toward a large outdoor patio to the right, and an equally large play area for children with a trampoline and bouncy. This made us somewhat wary at first.
We sat on a large patio with umbrellas. Inside they have a number of tables and booths with a giant glass open kitchen on the left and a bar on the right. Straightahead was a stand for a band and upstairs there was a balcony for seating overlooking the restaurant below and a DJ. When we first arrived the music was a bit loud but the band that started about 7:00pm played nice softer music. A flat screen TV at one end with futbol on made this joint a sports bar of sorts.
I started with a Rojito-vodka, Hugo de arandano, lemon verde and a few of our group ordered the Centarito Terraza-Tequila, Jugo de Toronja, Lemon, Miel de Agave, Jarabe de Jamaica and Vino Tinto. My drink was quenching but not strong. I ordered as a starter a Marlin taco w/homemade tortilla, red onions, cilantro & Puya sauce. The sauce was tangy and went well with the grilled swordfish. A beautiful basket of bread arrived and two starters, a fried fish platter and the world's largest tomato Caprese, which was easily shared and quite good. My main course: the Divine Comedy- two medium rare beef medallions w/4 cheese sauce, shrimp in a sweet sherry sauce and veggies. The beef was perfectly cooked and the cheese sauce was not quite overpowering although on the mushrooms/veggies it was too much. The shrimp were tasty and the sherry sauce was a nice change from the 4 cheese sauce. The food was good & filling but definitely no room for that last blast of flan before we head home. read more
