I ended up eating here as the restaurant next door was at full capacity and shares the same kitchen with Terrazza. I walked inside and it was very warm but decided to sit outside along the river. It was a bit chilly out but was an improvement over the warm indoor dining area. This experience took a few hours as they seemed to be short staffed even though the restaurant was about 50% capacity when we arrived. It took a long time to place an order. An order was placed for a carpaccio appetizer and I placed an order for the gnocchi pasta. Bread was served with olive oil and vinegar on the table top. The carpaccio was good and was served with cheese and arugula (forgot to snap a photo). The gnocchi was great! After we finished it took a very long time to get the check and head out. The place was almost empty by that time but still was a huge delay to get the check. The view to the river and the gnocchi were the highlight but much was to be desired for the speed of service. Had a late lunch here with a friend who was recently posted to Luzern for work, and who has spent the last 3 months sampling every restaurant in the city prepping for spring and summer visitors, like me. Really enjoyed it! First, the day we visited was a warm spring day in early April. They did not have blankets or outdoor heaters, but we felt comfortable eating outside and LOVED the view. There was plenty of seating inside, but not much ambiance, and the outside terrace was packed, so it felt festive and was very enjoyable. Second, service was so so. We had three different servers attending to us; only one spoke very good English; one knew the menu, one knew the wines. It was hard to tell if they understood us because some of our requests for additional plates and glasses seemed to take a very long time to be addressed, but in the end, we had everything we wanted. The meal was excellent which is why I am giving them 4 stars. We had a salad with mache, fresh burata (which was probably the best I have ever eaten) and avocados, with a light vinaigrette style dressing on the greens. It was delectable and enough for both of us to share. For mains, I had the saffron risotto with prawns and my friend has the spaghetti vongole special of the day with fresh asparagus. Both dishes were done very well - tasty, seasoned well, pasta and rice the right consistency, good portions of seafood, and enough to eat that we finished our plates and were satisfied without feeling like we had pigged out. La Terrazza was a great choice for lunch in Luzern. It was away from the core central tourist area and had a wonderful river view. I started with a glass of Pinot Grigio which was perfectly chilled. The price like most wines in Switzerland was pretty reasonable and below NYC prices. For lunch I selected the spaghetti with seafood which was nicely prepared. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the seafood while on the small side was quite tasty. All in, it was the perfect portion for a somewhat light meal while on the go. Overall La Terrazza was a good choice given the view, quality of food and service. I would have no hesitation to go back on my next visit to Luzern. read more

Had an amazing dinner and view at this restaurant! Didn't expect the Italian food to be this good. Glad we ended up here. FOOD Bruschetta (4 stars): The tomatoes were really flavorful! Garg. Mare e Mon (5 stars): Shrimp pasta in an amazing tomato cream sauce. You MUST get this. The sauce was perfect and the shrimp were cooked very well. SERVICE Some waiters were better than others but overall everyone was nice. ATMOSPHERE We sat outside and it's beautiful. The patio seating is right along Lake Luzern so you get an amazing view. We even saw swans on the lake as we were eating. They provide blankets on your seat if you get cold. WIFI does not work outside unfortunately, only works inside the restaurant =/ It's so weird how it literally cuts off outside the door. Overall I'd definitely recommend dining here. read more

Mediocre restaurant. Service was OK. The food was bland. We got the pizza which was OK but it needed more flavor than it actually had. My mom got a vegetarian dish, I forgot what she got, but she did not enjoy it very much. My dad got what I think of shrimp and pasta and he said it was "eh" too. Overall it's in a very touristy location and it's pretty much a tourist trap. It's got a beautiful seating area outside on the river. It also has pretty decent desserts if you want to get some. Otherwise, I would tell you to go walking around find another restaurant that is so touristy. It's also pretty pricey. I don't regret going but I won't go back. read more

Yan was the best waiter! He was funny and very knowledgeable. We loved his wine and pasta recommendations. We attempted to order two fondues for the table and he explained that it was too much. The food was "fine" as far as flavor and something to fill the void when hungry. It was not "great", nor "good", but "fine". The food was not bad, but the service was ridiculously slow. The waiter lost track of our ice cream dessert and pretended that the one sitting on another table was not ours. He picks them up in shock because they melted and told us it wasn't ours. One minute later, he sends another waiter with the same ice cream and they were half melted. Unbelievable! We are at Terrazza's other restaurant "Alpchalet" tonight. It was excellent! It was a very small room, but homey and intimate. The traditional Swiss music (think yodeling) was a little much but not terrible. For dinner, we both had homemade rosti (mine with cheese and seasonal vegetables and my husband's with bacon, egg and cheese). I'd never had rosti before and I was blown away. It was like having risotto but with potatoes - rich and creamy and covered in melty cheese...yummm! We had vanilla gelato covered with warm berries for dessert. Delicious. Other diners were eating fondue, weiner schnitzel and other Swiss/German fare. It all looked good. The meal was expensive, but not completely out of line for Lucern and Switzerland in general. The wait staff was kind, but efficient. Everyone we dealt with spoke English. When paying the check with my credit card, there was a place to add a tip (granted, the server was standing right there watching me enter the number so that was a bit disconcerting) in Swiss francs. I've come here a few times with friends during the summer (and early fall), and we've always sat outside on the terrace. It's quite nice; it can get a little chilly, but that's what they have the blankets for. I have no complaints about the pizza, but the pasta isn't the best. The salad buffet at lunch is pretty simple. If you decide to give this place a go, I would definitely take the pizza over the pasta. read more

My husband and I are on a day trip to Lucern and thought this would be a nice place for dinner. The service was deplorable. The staff could not get one thing right and the servers were very rude and condescending. We tried to speak to the manager about the food and the service and an Indian man claiming to be the manager surprised us with his smug attitude . He was worse than the servers. During this conversation, I kept smelling a foul odor like body odor from someone who forgot to put deodorant on and I realized that the manager was sweating and it was his body odor I was smelling. Luckily it was time for us to leave at this point and we were glad to be off. We were offended on many levels and regret going to this establishment. read more

Stopped by on a Friday night without a reservation, and thankfully they had room. Alas, we soon found out why. Food was mediocre--we had pasta and while it was fine, neither of us were particularly impressed. Everything was really oily. We saw some meat dishes walk by that looked completely unappetizing, but I can't really judge the taste. The worst was the service, though. It took 15 minutes to be acknowledged and presented with menus after being seated. Our food came out fairly quickly, but the table next to us and behind us had to wait a loooooooong time to get theirs. The people next to me ordered a pizza and a pasta dish and it probably took 45 minutes to arrive. In short, wouldn't return. Unless we forget to make a reservation on a Friday night. read more

It seems like this place is a "scene" but then again, every restaurant I have dined at in Zurich so far seems that way. Lots of waiters, lots of tables, bustling with activity. This is a basic Italian restaurant that is stepped up in price and service. Other than that, it is just fine. I had bresaola with arugula and parmesan. I've had it everywhere. Here, you poured your own olive oil. I wouldn't allow the patrons to do that, but ok. I think I got exactly the right amount. I had the veal marsala. Good. Can't remember anything else about it. Pistachio ice cream to finish. Come here if you want to pay a bit more for decor, service, location, etc. The food will probably be consistent, and above average but not memorable. read more

Worst fondue I have had in Switzerland, and I've had for less than half what I paid here. The cheese seemed mixed with cream or something like that, tasteless and bland. They brought bread only, not very good either. Service was rough and gave the feeling that this was a low quality tourist-fooling kind of place. Both the food and atmosphere were very enjoyable. Had the lamb dish and it was cooked to perfection, not dry over cooked. It was served with vegies and would have preferred a side of pasta though. On a day trip to Lucerne while in Switzerland, this restaurant is where we ended up for lunch. It was a relatively warm day for March and the sun was bright. Given the weather, our group of six wanted to try and eat outside and soak up the riverside atmosphere. Out of the all the restaurants in the area, this was the only one that was packed on its terrace. Thinking that was a good sign, we approached the host and he made space available for us on the upper level of the terrace. We were seated in view of the bridges near the old town. The swans are in full view as well. Seated along the river, we all felt like we had made a good choice when we opened the menu and saw a very thorough selection of pastas, salads, pizzas, and heartier entrees. The server brought us a wine list and a list of lunch specials. Several of us split a bottle of Nero D'Avola which was reasonably priced and had a wonderful taste. I opted to get the lunch special which included the salad bar and a pizza. The salad bar was located inside the restaurant. The greens were fresh and there were plenty of vegetables. You could also slice your own bread, which looked homemade. There was also the ability to get some soup, which I did try based on the ringing endorsement from others. It was a very flavorful cream of mushroom soup which was light and not too heavy. Our entrees all arrived quite promptly. I chose the diavola pizza and it was bigger than I expected, especially considering a soup and salad was included in the price. I wasn't able to finish it, but the pizza was quite good. The dough was light and not heavy. Given that we made a spontaneous choice to eat here, we felt like it worked out just fine. Great location. Started to rain lightly and they extended the cover so we were comfortable. Food was good, not exceptional. Pasta was too oily. Pizza was good. Waiters were not good. I asked to remove olives from pizza and they didn't. They offered a wine list but no other drink menu. I ordered beer and it was fine. Rest of the family ordered cokes and water. Waiters never asked if we needed refills. Cost was 100 francs for 3 meals plus drinks. So, if you can be patient with the waiters and want to eat by the river, this is a decent option. read more

We had both lunch and dinner here on our recent visit. The food was fabulous! The seating on the terrace was very nice during both meals. For the lunch, we all had pizza and seasonal salads. The crust had a nice bite and texture and the toppings were great. The seasonal salads were not overly dressed and had the right balance of acid to accent the greens. For the dinner the next day, we all had pasta dishes. Our tablemates had the Bolognese and Alfredo dishes. Very nice balance of tomatoes and meat for the Bolognese and the cream sauce was very well done, not overly "gluey" but a nice creamy texture. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Food is OK-ish, however the name is misleading. From the name it looks like an Italian restaurant, but the food is not real Italian. Service was a real disappointment. We had to wait for a disproportionate long time to get the food and several times waiters were mixing dishes and tables (we were served a dish we did not order). Our conclusion: if you are looking for an Italian restaurant you better search more. There is a real Italian restaurant very close to this one. read more
