This particular store had an enormous parking lot, was super clean on the inside. When you entered, there were these scanners you could go ahead and choose to use, the reason? You could go ahead and scan your groceries ahead of time so that when you brought them up, they were already rang up and all the cashier had to do was bag them and take your money. Frankly, none of them were in use. Seems a bit like a lot of wasted money if you ask me, but that's just my opinion The stores carry fashions (Not a lot but some) House wares, grilling things and of course groceries and liquor. Yes, unlike Florida, they actually sell liquor in their stores. I know other states sell hard liquor but we only sell beer and wine. (le sigh) I really enjoy shopping in the UK because their selections were so different than ours. Bacon over here is not like bacon over there, we have "Streaky bacon" they have Rashers (Thin ham like slices which are salty and delicious), their meats are different but tasty and their produce come in different names for the same veggies (courgettes are zucchini) I loved the "Foreign" foods selections, which was tiny, and filled with mostly American foods. And of course the WALL of beans. Frankly I wish we'd get a Tesco here, and keep it filled with the UK selections.

This marvelous grocery store totally surprised me. We travelled by train on this last European…read moretrip, we went back and forth about whether we should drive or train or do a combination of both. We decided on going the train route totally. Driving on the left hand side is not something to choose easily....I have only done it once before in 1982 in Jamaica and it was fine because I was incredibly young and the roads were less travelled back then but it's hard to change. I know many accidents/ deaths that have happened because of this. Anyway we decided to do the train bit. When we arrived at the York train station we had some time to wait so Joe said " Go check out the Booths" I already knew this is a grocery store chain in England and had seen it before But I was blown away at this one and was surprised to find it at the Windermere train station. I spent a good 45 minutes in there and purchased many items for our next destination. Beautiful produce and it also had a whole bakery area and a area with pharmacy type items too. When Joe insisted I go honestly I was a bit annoyed like Why? Lol Great store! Best in town!

I made several Thai dishes and Booths had all the necessary ingredients from fish sauce to palm sugar to dried kaffir lime leaves. Prices are much lower and the selection much larger than you'd find in London. Try £26 for a bottle of Veuve, and yes we bought a case for Christmas lunch! If you're self catering in the Lake District and are looking for quality well above your average Tesco Express, be sure to make the drive to Booths.

There is a great seleciton of products in store, well laid out, and with plenty of space in the aisles, so you can stop to have a conversation without the risk of blocking the entire aisle! I can highly recommend the salad bar both for choice available, and value for money, and the fresh flowers last ages. The fresh meat counter is very reasonably priced too for some great cuts. The staff are very helpful and the queues aren't normally too bad. If they start to back up, there's normally another till opened very quickly.

They have a fab range of fruit and veg, and also fresh bread and pastries which are baked instore, the sausage rolls are fantastic. I often find that they always have a lot of good deals on wine and beer which always helps in the money saving stakes, and makes them cheaper than the local off licence. The shop also stocks a large amount of frozen food, toiletries and chilled items. They even do houmous now which I can't go without. They also do a loyalty scheme which is in the form of a dividend card. The staff are really friendly and will always you help look for an item if you can't find it. The parking on Central Avenue is in abundance and you can always find a space. The shop also has good disabled access.
