The staff seemed friendly enough and they do support the Sainsburys Smartshop feature of being able to scan items on your phone, which I like. I do prefer the nearby ASDA store, elsewhere in Southport town centre as it is slightly larger and has easier car-parking, but this isn't a bad alternative. The walk from the town centre might be short, but it is poorly lit and with bollards on the pavement, it feels like an accident waiting to happen, but admittedly it isn't the store's fault and that is up to the local council. 3* - The modal rating on Yelp pretty much sums it up.

But this one is located so oddly, I've never quite understood how the car park for it seems to be located in an entirely different section of Southport. Anyway, confusing geographics aside, Southport is spoiled for supermarkets. It genuinely is. Manchester is not. This irritates me. Back when I used to work my summer jobs in this fair town during my university days, playing house when the parentals were on holiday, I'd be spoiled for choice with Safeway, Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda, Tesco and this. I know, who do Southportians think they are? This is a decently large Sainsbury's, and for some strange reason the street on which it's located is full of accountants and solicitors' offices. It's easily accessible from whatever part of Southport you're in (that confusing car park again), and it stocks a wide range of stuff, harbouring a great bakery section as well as a good range of beer and wine and some great cooking ingredients. As always, I went into the car park right in front of the shop and parked my car. I thought it was a free car parking like other Iceland in Greater Manchester as I could not notice a sign of pay and display parking. The shop was more or less the same as other Iceland and I spent about £50 there. After a couple of weeks or so, I received a letter of a parking fine of £100 as I did not buy a parking ticket for a mere 21 minutes' shopping !! I think the till lady at Iceland should have asked me for a parking ticket to claim the parking fee at the till really so that I could have avoided the £100 fine for a 21 minutes parking !! This is absolutely ridiculous.

I can see why so many customers dump stuff in the wrong place now - why should they bother to put it back in the right place when they're treated like dirt?

The sheer amount of times The Brunette and I have stopped off here from a trip to Liverpool to buy wine ready to consume at her Southport abode. It literally has everything you could ever want, and speaking of the wine, you're bound to get some amazing special offers in that area with the likes of half price and three bottles for a tenner. I was kittysitting at the time and was more than happy to find a fully stocked pet section with a highly varied range. I bought little Hendrix a toy that was a fish on a string on a stick. You know how stuff like that drives kittens loopy. He might have disembowelled the toy in a way only a cat can (you know what cats are like, they have a very sneaky cruel streak dogs could never muster) by pulling its stuffing out through its eyes, but heck, he loved it. This Asda has a huge homeware section upstairs along with manifold electrics and all sorts of stuff you'll suddenly find a need for. As well as this it has a great reduced section, both food and sale, and I've always loved Asda deli stuff. Pots of dip for less than a quid, good dip too, heck yes! Plenty of lovelies like sundried tomatoes and coleslaw too. Enough gushing, I love it. It might be an evil supermarket but with prices like this, it's one of the lesser of the evils. Plus it's remarkably well kept too. Compare it to the Moss Side one, you'll have a field day.
