This is a review of the cafe at Tesco rather than the store in general as our trip was specifically to grab a quick lunch on the way to a funeral.
We assumed there would be a cafe here as it is a large superstore although the outside of the building does not mention the cafe on the list of facilities. We found the cafe to the left of the entrance. There was a choice of sad ages an chips, lasagne, baked potatoes, a very limited choice of sandwiches and small selection of cakes etc. I chose a baked potato with chilli con carne. However at 12.30pm I was told this had run out. I chose an alternative of cheese and beans topping which was 40p extra as it was two toppings not 1. The toppings were very small portions so the potato was quite dry, and the 'salad' was a couple of forkfuls of ice burg lettuce, 2 slithers of cucumber and 1 tiny slither of onion. My husband couldn't find any sandwiches he liked as there was a very basic choice so he went to the pre packed sandwich aisle in the store and returned with a better option. However, as soon as he sat down he was instantly told to leave by a slightly jobs worth member of staff as 'you are not allowed to eat your own food in the cafe'!! We pointed out that this was actually a Tesco sandwich and that if they had had the same range in the cafe he might have been able to purchase it there, but that had not been an option! Anyway, my husband went outside to eat and I ate half of my lunch before giving it up as the quality wasn't great. We found the experience quite amusing - a good job we have a sense of humour! Recommendation - eat somewhere else if you're in Taunton, even if you're just looking for a quick snack. read more
