I asked him "are you sure you can handle this job and get the new boiler installed?" He assured me that he absolutely could! Then he asked for $2,000 up front And I paid it. Well we ended up ordering the new boiler ourselves and had to hire someone else to do the instal! Well, he did not accomplish anything. No return of our pre payment of $2,000 either. Yup!!! I hired Owen Construction to pave our driveway in early September, 2013. There was some drama…read moreduring the install. First they tried to drop off their equipment 4 or 5 days before they were going to start (so it could sit there for the Labor Day weekend). Then during the job their heavy equipment operator got mad and walked off the job for some reason and went home which cost a day. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge as they prepped the area for asphalt and it all seemed very inefficient to me. Once they began doing a small bit of concrete work and laying the asphalt things were more organized. While I initially thought the job had turned out ok I have to say there are some issues that concern me. The asphalt is pretty coarse in some sections where they claimed they couldn't use their roller. I expect over time this area will begin to crumble as Wyomings hard freeze and thaw cycles take their toll. Additionally, I had a piece of stone about 1 1/4" that was part of the asphalt mix come out this summer. When I attempted to clean out the small hole left (prepping to add some crack filler) there seemed to be only dirt beneath it - rather than the 3" layer of asphalt I was promised. Word to the wise here: I was on the job during install and thought there was at least 2" of depth - clearly my untrained eye was fooled. When it fIrst rained after completion there were large puddles on the driveway that were not emptying into a drain they installed to carry water away. I let them know and they came and checked the situation promising to be back when they did another job nearby. They 'forgot' to come when they were working just up the road.. Months later they called looking for payment (the first time they asked!) and I explained the issue....then foolishly provided most of the balance due on the promise they would return in the spring to remedy the issue. Seems they conveniently 'forgot' again. I've decided I'm not chasing them down since I probably wouldn't want them repairing it anyway and will find a more professional outfit to fix their work at my expense. In closing, I am not trying to imply the driveway is a crumbling mess. it has been just about a year and it generally seems ok but the disorganization during installation, lack of follow through, shallow depth of the asphalt and overall lack of professionalism leads me to believe they did a less-than-professional job that will prematurely age and require more maintenance over time compared to other professionally done jobs.
