We took a taxi to the Anne Frank house and walked the few blocks to a starting point. It was a chilly, rainy November day but we had umbrellas, rain gear and determination! The neighborhoods are utterly charming, canals throughout, bordered by colorful houses, skinny sidewalks with bikes and cars squeezed in somehow. It so reminded us of Venice! Everything is so photogenic it's easy to burn through your phone's storage here! Shops and restaurants abound throughout. Would've loved to have more time to check them out but my wife did find some beautiful scarves in one. Walking the 9 Streets has been described as one of the great walks of Europe. A must see when in Amsterdam!

I had a long layover and decided to check out the city instead of waiting at the airport. However,…read moreI was carrying my laptop and I did not want to bring it along while I toured the city. I read about the Drop & Go service online but wanted to ask the tourist information centre across from the Amsterdam Centraal Station to see my options. The tourist information centre said it's either the locker from the train station or the Drop & Go location, which is conveniently located just across the canal behind the tourist information centre, to the left of the church. The entrance can be hard to find because it's a basement location but they do have ramps for luggage to wheel down. The staff was super friendly. When I arrived, the girl staff let me take my time to transfer stuff from my backpack to the laptop bag before storing it for 5 euros. She also gave suggestions on what to visit based on my situation. When I returned 3 hours later, the girl was now accompanied by a guy staff. He heard that I'm heading to the airport and offered to check the flight information from Schiphol airport's website for me and print the boarding pass proactively without me asking for this service. It was his initiative which allowed me to find out that my gate was changed and which departure area would be closest to my gate. That alleviates my stress so I don't have to worry about finding departure information once I arrive at the airport. I would absolutely recommend this service to other tourists and I would personally use this service again if I need to store items for short term in Amsterdam.

The…read moreconcept is great, they move around the city into vacant shop spaces that are waiting to be rented. They were previously located for 9 months at a spot on Van Baerlestraat. I popped in on Saturday, having decided I needed to get some more cultural activities under my belt. The gallery has paintings, photographs, and sculptures by various artists - mostly Dutch - and is a pretty large space. The art is mostly modern. A few of the artists were there also talking with people about their art. The space is very big and bright and light, so it shows the art well. Definitely a nice addition to the neighborhood. Also a great way to show local artworks in different parts of the city. Stop by and check it out!

Gathershop just opened today and I made sure to celebrate my Christmas holiday by checking out this place as soon as possible. The friendly British owner did a wonderful job with the interior of this place as well as the collection. I loved so much of the things she sells, and the best thing is; I could actually afford it! I bought a lovely ring for only 27 euros which is a great price. There was a lot of cute jewelry but I also loved the art prints and magazines, saw a few cute tote bags and cute kitchen supplies. The upperfloor of the shop is reserved for pop-ups. At the moment 'Rewind Play Fast Forward's vintage collection is available and it suits the rest of the more permanent collection at Gathershop very well. I saw a few very nice items and again, for very reasonable prices. I would really recommend this place if you need gifts for a creative lady friend, or if you want to treat yourself with something nice, but don't want to spent too much money, like at simular style shops in the Negen Straatjes. This shop is just as good and if you're not from this hood gives you a good reason to discover the Van Woustraat a little bit more (because it has so much to offer lately!).

The dressing rooms were challenging, as they were not on every floor, but the cash registers to buy were available on various levels. The building is beautiful, well lit and open with high ceilings on some floors. There's an elevator and some have stairs the higher the floors. The stairs were crazy-steep: we would never see that in an American store! The prices were spot on, my daughter found a sweatshirt for under $3Euros, which is amazing prices for Europe and America. Very happy shopping experience.

Really beautiful new location of H&M that just opened in the former building of Maison de…read moreBonneterie. It's enormous, spanning over 5 floors, and they've done a really beautiful job of preserving the original details and decorations of the Maison de Bonneterie. This is a new flagship store for H&M in Amsterdam, and what makes it really special (aside from the beautiful building itself) is that it's the only H&M in Amsterdam that has every H&M collection in the store including H&M Home. Admittedly some collections are there but don't have much space - I noticed that the H&M+ collection was only about two racks in one corner. It does boast a very large women's shoes selection, and I must say the dressing rooms were really nice. What this location definitely has over other H&M locations is the building - it's very spacious with high ceilings so that even on a busy pre-Christmas shopping day it didn't feel packed and claustrophobic. But I would recommend stopping by to have a look inside just to see the building, it's a beauty!

The store has been here for quite a while now so I'm suprised it wasn't on Yelp yet. Project Suitcase is actually an online shop but has a pop-up store untill september (maybe longer). It is a nice little shop with a cool interior. Vintage furniture, rugs on the floor and pretty things everywhere. They sell clothing, shoes, bags and jewellry. Everything is very hipster, festival-style. Prices are not very high. I bough a very cool top today for 20 euros and I think that is a fine price. They do not have very many clothes but there is always something nice I think. Right now they sell some very cool galaxy print tops. The shops only accepts cash.
