Situated in Bristo Square, Teviot is ideal for catching a cheap and tasty lunch after classes. I come here with my friends at least three times a week and we usually go to the Mezz cantine which serves fish and chips, chilli con carne and vegetarian soups all at reasonable prices. Alternatively you can head downstairs to the Library bar where they serve a variety of excellent burgers, pasta dishes and nachos. The atmosphere of Teviot is superior to just about anywhere I've been to in Edinburgh. It's full of widning staircases, and has plenty of small rooms filled with comfortable sofas and walls lined with books. I found out just recently that there is a billiards room tucked away upstairs which is entirely free! Drinks are only £1.8, topping Teviot off as a great union for meeting friends on lazy afternoons or kicking off a night before heading to the mighty Potterow.

Food for a Fiver list: Steak Salad - £5 or Turkey Burger £4.50 There are others, but this is what I usually get - Teviot is a great student union building. It looks medieval on the outside, and no linoleum or florescent lights on the inside. It's basically a few bars and multi-purpose rooms, so if you need to meet up or have an event on campus, its a great place. Library Bar is probably the favorite, it's definitely the default one we go to. The sports one is great for matches and something like the Superbowl. Gets busy, so service can take some time, but it's not too bad. Looks great, cheap booze, cheap but decent food. It's just what students want.

A favourite haunt of students, library bar has it all: ambience, quality of food and drinks, friendly service and competitive prices. Desserts and hot drinks are especially worth a mention and the new look menu is exhaustive offering many vegetarian and non veg dishes. However, it is not food but the drinks and relaxed atmosphere that brings students in hordes to this place. The only downside: you have to be a student of Edinburgh University to enter. Alternatively, go with a friend who is!

When I joined Edinburgh University the pamphlets all boastfully claimed that this was the oldest student union in the world. Now I'm not sure if this is true or not but looking at the witchy gothic building I think it would be hard to beat. The union spans over five floors interconnected by winding, weaving spiral staircases. It can be quite easy to loose your someone in here the way all the bars are connected but no one could fault it for character! The Library bar is my newest favourite although the Middle bar is also a very nice. Cheap drinks, cheap food- a student heaven.

Climb the sweeping staircase and find yourself at Library Bar - the best bar in all of Edinburgh in my opinion.

Scotland's weather is basically all season daily. You never know what you'll get...lol... Of course the rain started and we happened to be right here. Just to get warm as well, this place seemed very cozy. Inside you feel the warm homey cottage feel. Fresh baked cakes, smell of coffee and tea. They also serve food as well. There's the main dining area along the entrance with the cakes on full display for everyone to see. A small room in the back as well as a loft and downstairs. Of course restrooms are downstairs. All the staff were amazing and very friendly. All so welcoming. The cakes were amazing and paired very well with a coffee or tea. I'm not sure if it's baked in house but the selections they offered, it was amazing. So many too chose from. It's not a crazy big place but the warm cozy feeling right when you walk in was amazing. Friendly smile and anything with fresh baked goods will bring people in.

I came pretty close to the opening and was able to select my choice for seats. I picked a table near the window for natural lighting. They have a table of a lot of tasty treats and while I didn't get a chance to try them all, I can attest to the scone being very tasty! I ordered the Cream Tea (I think I ordered the Lemon and Elderflower) which comes with a freshly baked homemade scone (I chose a fruit one), and a cup of tea €6.80. I decided to upgrade to a pot of tea (€7.75) and added a bowl of porridge (€5.50) with jam as I usually prefer savory breakfasts. This was more than enough to eat for one, but I just enjoy trying different items - does anyone else have this problem? lol I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here as the ambiance, food and tea were homey and intimate. This would be such a fun place to converse with girlfriends for tea time!

We had breakfast here on our first day in Edinburgh. It's cozy and the walls are covered with paintings, antique cups, and plates. To be honest the walls are quite chaotic but that's where the personality comes in. We ordered the eggs with toast and the full Scottish breakfast. Food was great, coffee hit the spot, and service was excellent. Even with the chaos they keep the place clean. Also, BEWARE they do not have hot sauce here LOL. I asked the server and she said "No, but it was worth a try to ask" Respect lol. We sat by the window and people watched and awed at the beautiful architecture of Edinburgh. It's a chill spot to rest and refuel. Would love to come back for their afternoon tea!
