Upon entering the staff was welcoming and the restaurant was nice and warm, since it was cold out. We were seated immediately since the restaurant was relatively empty. So I was surprised when our server asked if we had reservations?.. No, of course we did not. Our Server was bubbly, outgoing and very nice but not very good. She forgot the utensils, and our drink order but there was a second server that was on top of what she didn't do or bring and he told her what we wanted to drink. Before we ordered our meals, I explained to our server it was my Husband's bday so they could prepare something for dessert for him. We ordered a Guinness and a coke zero - served in the tiny bottle with no cup for ice. I did request a glass with ice and one with 2 ice cubes was brought out to me. We started our meal with a dozen oysters that were brought out to our table so quickly, we didn't have a chance to photograph them - they were delicous. I initially ordered the Ribeye but was told it wasn't available, so I ordered the chargrilled sirloin steak. The steak comes served with fries, salad & peppercorn sauce. I truly wish the restaurant would've had the Ribeye because the sirloin steak I ordered cooked medium, came out well done, full of fat and extremely chewy. I'm not really one to send food back, so I let them know but ate it anyway. We also ordered the Chargrilled ribeye Lobster - which is a Ribeye & half Lobster served on hot stone served with salad. The steak here was also replaced by a thin sirloin steak. When it came time for dessert, they brought out the crème brûlée we chose from the menu and we were pretty surprised how terrible that small desert was. It was sweet and had the consistency of a flan, not a crème brûlée. There was no layer of caramelized sugar on the crème brûlée and it just tasted completely wrong. Ultimately, The Shell is a seafood restaurant not a seafood and steak restaurant. They have no clue how to slice or cook steak. The place is cute and the servers are doing their best but the restaurant leaves much to be desired.

You'd never find it unless you knew it was there, as Old Brompton Road is hardly a major thoroughfare. It's not far from the south end of Gloucester Road, which leads directly to the main A4 (Cromwell Road). The site is what you could politely call compact (ie rather small) and if there's a queue it tends to back up onto Old Brompton Road. It has one of the small Shell 'Select' shops, selling a basic range of newspapers, food and drinks as well as motoring supplies.

They are an MOT testing centre for motorcycles and scooters and are usually able to MOT your bike on the spot without an appointment (but booking in advance is recommended). They will even collect your bike free of charge if you want. As for repairs and servicing, they don't try to charge you for work that's not needed. They will also try to fix problems where possible rather than just replace parts. When working on my bike, they always work fast and don't mess about. They are probably one of the cheapest moped and scooter garages in London. They have a selection of genuine and aftermarket spare parts in stock for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia plus others, but if they don't have what you need they can usually order it for next day delivery. They even have some used (second hand) parts available. They also stock a wide range of tyres and accessories such as helmets, gloves etc. Even thought they are called Dilman Scooters, they do still work on motorbikes and not just scooters and mopeds. They do a lot of work for couriers, knowledge students and fast food delivery companies (Dominos Pizza, Papa Johns etc.) all over London. If you're looking for reliable mechanics to service and maintain your scooter or motorcycle at a low price, give Dillman Scooters a try.

And they sell bikes. Again not the best bike shop compared to the likes of Cycle Surgery but the bikes they sell are decent value and good enough for most people. This branch has a decent sized car park which is pretty good considering how close it is to Central London.

And several years ago I discovered Honda Riders of Peckham. Honda Riders are one of the few family-run year-dot shops left in the game. They've got bits for bikes that even the manufacturers have probably forgotten! It's run by Natalie and her head-honcho Paul, and between them they have amassed a detailed knowledge of most common bikes & their particular idiosyncrasies. Especially beneficial to the economy end of the market; there's no limit to the age of a bike they'll attempt to repair. And therein lies a problem, because old bikes often have seized bolts, cracked & corroded parts etc, all of which may not only raise the bill unexpectedly, but also lead to delays and a backlog in their work schedule. But new or old, they always try to please, whereas most other shops will simply turn a machine away after a certain age. They are only two, and work ebbs & flows. Sometimes the phone never stops ringing, and customers are in and out all the time. It can get very, very hectic, and then patience is needed. At other times, when it's quiet, they may look at your bike - and fix it - while you wait. It's a hands-on firm; both Natalie & Paul wield spanners and the telephone often gets lost amongst the jobs! They also stock parts and accessories, including crash-helmets & clothes and a wide range of serviceable secondhand components which they will offer to fit at a big discount to new. This can both save time if the part would otherwise need to be ordered, as well as keeping the bill to a minimum. They're also a licenced MOT station. There's only a handful of other firms like theirs in south London, and I know from experience that Honda Riders are the cheapest and most friendly. Frankly; I can't imagine dispatching life without them. I just hope I can retire before they do.

They've frequently sorted me out at very short notice, very accomodating - staying open late just so I can pick my bike up after work. They do lose a star for their cash only policy - it's 2014 guys!
