It is an 1800 foot "parallel chord truss bridge" that replaced an old bridge that is much safer and includes a pedestrian lane. The bridge is a single lane in each direction, it is a concrete deck so none of that steel deck nonsense that tries to take your tires away from you. Always helpful, always well-staffed, always clean. Having a large family, we are there pretty often for movies, books, and the special programs. Of course, there is a large selection of books, but it's the other stuff that my family loves. Its downtown location also provides convenient internet access for a large amount of the population, I think that's an excellent service to the community!

I won't ever make that mistake again of driving over as I didn't retract the ride side mirror arm and thus it got smashed in and shattered. Luckily nothing else broke. Cobb Bridge carries US-45 across the Ohio River. Completed in 1929, this two lane bridge is a steel deck bridge with ten spans. Total length of 5385 feet which is longer than a mile. I crossed it because Daniel P. told me I had to experience it. And because I didn't need to be in Brookport next, I got to make a u-turn and cross this POS bridge a second time. Because it's a steel deck bridge, it wanted very much to turn my tires. So instead of going naturally straight, I spent the two minutes (25 mph speed limit) fighting the steering wheel because the bridge wanted me both in the wall or in the opposing lane. What the heck! On the front of the marker, "Lewis and Clark, with the nucleus of the Corps of Discovery, stayed in present McCracken Co. in Nov. 1803 while traveling down the Ohio River on their journey to the Pacific. Clark returned in 1827 to establish Paducah. Over." On the reverse, "Nov. 11-13, 1803, Lewis and Clark stopped at Ft. Massac, Ill., near present-day Paducah and recruited men, including Indian interpreter George Drouillard. On Nov. 13, they camped in area of Metropolis Lake State Nature Preserve." The Lewis and Clark Expedition from August 31, 1803, to September 25, 1806, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the United States expedition to cross the newly acquired western portion of the country after the Louisiana Purchase. The Corps of Discovery was a select group of U.S. Army and civilian volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark. Flying out of Barkley Regional Airport kind of feels like being in on a really great secret. It's…read moreso tiny, I'm 80% sure the person who checks your ID at TSA could moonlight as your flight attendant... and honestly, I wouldn't even be mad about it. It's tucked right off the main road in Paducah, which makes it super convenient to grab a bite before or after your flight. Bonus points for being stress-free from the moment you park to the moment you board. The bag check process? A breeze. TSA? Practically a polite wave through a high-tech bag scanner (they even have the fancy new machines). And every single employee I interacted with was genuinely kind and helpful--like, Southern hospitality in airport form. Now let's talk about the gate area. Sure, there are only two gates (and let's be real, only one seems to be in action at a time), but the seating situation? Chef's kiss. You've got your standard airport rows with outlets, Jetsons-style lounge chairs, pods with privacy dividers perfect for pulling out a laptop, and even a four-seat square setup with space to stretch out. Need to perch up high? There's a high-top table too. It's basically the WeWork of tiny airports. There's also a small vending area with a few snacks and drinks--nothing to write home about or hold your breath for, but it'll hold you over in a pinch. And shout out to the bathrooms: super clean, well-stocked, and clearly cared for. Barkley may be bite-sized, but it punches way above its weight class. If every airport ran this smoothly, flying would feel a lot more like teleporting.
