It reads, "Early reports of natural gas seepages in this area were not uncommon in the late 19th century. James Slaughter noticed such natural occurences near the San Jacinto River in 1887. Several years later, with S. A. Hart, he set up a drilling operation in the area, but it proved unsuccessful. Charles Barrett, a former Huston merchant, also drilled wells here, but found the results limited. In 1904, the Higgins Oil Company brought in a major gas well and the following year, the first successful oil well was drilled." "This area, known as the Moonshine Hill section of the great Humble oil field, became the site of a boom town. Within months of the 1905 discovery, the population of the Moonshine Hill settlement increased to 10,000. Early operations associated with the site included the Moonshine Oil Company of Walter Sharp, Ed Prather, and Howard R. Hughes." "Although tents comprised most of the early structures, Moonshine Hill eventually included a church, school, postal station, stores, hotels, and saloons. Despite three separate boom eras, the last occurring in 1929, Moonshine Hill declined as a community. Pros: Activities: This place is packed with all types of things to do. There are several animals you can pet (Goats, Llamas, chickens, Cow, pony's and many more. There's a train that goes around the whole farm (included in your admission) and you can ride it as much as you want. They have several spots throughout the facility to reserve for birthday parties . There a HUGE mound of sand for the kids to have fun and a big playground. Plenty of places to take great photos! Location: I dread the words "It's off 1960" because this stretch of road has horrible traffic and some spots are not the best areas to be around but this spot is an excellent location. For all my golf folks, Tour 18 is right across the street ‍ Cons: Price: For a family of four (includes a 16 month old) we paid $80.00 plus food for animals for a total of $89.00. I know everything has gone up recently but I was a little blown away by this price. I would've expected a little more animals to pet or even some outdoor games to make up for this amount. Parking: Get here early or you will be parking in the "additional" parking spot which is a mowed field. Nothing against a mowed field but it isnt close so be ready to walk a little. Overall we will come back again this year since our kids had a blast!! If you're in the area give this farm a try.

We went all over houston and my only regret was not spending MORE time in the bus. The vendors were all very engaging and polite. Parking was easy since there's a huge lot outside. I'm not sure when they started, but like most it will likely improve each year, so I'd be back. There's also a large covered pavilion with picnic tables for moms to sit and watch the kids.
