I decided to give TSO a try one day, my girlfriend was coming here for an appointment so I thought why not. Long time customer of Vision Source, I'm always open to trying new things. Damn, do I regret that decision. Long term biweekly contact lens' wearer here, and I can't remember his name. Dr. Pena? Perez? Anyway, he doesn't support the use of them so he gave me different options. Monthly, weekly, and even dailies. I tried them all and they were just horrible on my eyes. The dailies and weekly's just tore on my eyes during use, and the monthlies were so thick they would get dry and just stick to the sides of my eyes causing so much irritation, pain, discomfort! I expressed that to him and I don't get how this man just keeps redirecting me onto some different bullshit to no avail. Maybe TSO just isn't "partnered" and makes money for selling me Acuvue Oasis contacts so he keeps pointing in some ridiculous direction. Not coming back. Fuck this place. read more

I have traveled all around and had to see many optometrist. Offices. This one is the complete package. If you live in 60 miles, give them a visit. I walked in to get a pair of sunglasses for an upcoming trip, with no appointment, and was helped immediately by Lea. She showed me where to look, helped me pick out several pairs to try and then brought me over to a table to try them on and decide. Then she measured for the lenses and rang me up. CUSTOMERS BEWARE! Zero stars for this place! I have never been treated so rudely as a customer in my entire life. Went in for an eye exam and following the exam ordered my bifocals. A week later I go in to pick them up and I can't see a thing out of them. Everything is blurry. I was told by Chad, the optical technician, try holding the paper this way, to the side, higher up etc. I told him I don't do that at work, so how could this be right? He tried his best to convince me to take the glasses as they were but I said no I have to be able to see out of them! So after two more glasses were ordered (total of 3 bad glasses) I ask for a refund. Then I'm told I'd have to wait for the manager to ok the refund. I paid cash btw! I did finally get my portion that I paid back but I had to call my insurance company to try to get my benefits reinstated, since I still don't have glasses. They did refund the frame portion back but refused to refund the lens portion to my insurance. Cody, the office manager said " we have to cover the cost of our lenses". When I tried to explain what happened and how was this my fault, I didn't mess the lenses up and I wanted them to make this right, she accused me of" not listening to her" and hung up! I'm more than disgusted; having used up my lens benefit for the year. I was treated by both Cody and Chad like I was at fault for the whole thing. I got three eye exams within a year at TSO. The last exam I received a perscription for eye glasses. The perscription is and was wrong, very wrong. I believe the elderly woman at the front desk , who looked up and handed me the perscription, intentionally gave me the wrong perscription. This cost me the price of a new pair of glasses. read more

Since I am waiting for my new glasses, I can't give them five stars at the moment and it still can go up or down when I get my glasses. They treated me nicely when we did the testing, so this is good. The waiting time was quite short and the one stop shop way is also nice, but of course if the service will lack when I get my glasses, I can also switch that around. I went there because my now glasses broke the night before and while they could be fixed with some rubber, they don't sit right anymore and I needed to check anyways and will get a new pair of glasses. I called in the morning and got an appointment just two hours later, so this was great. And the rest I already said or don't know yet. read more

Beware - this is one of those factories that play the "insurance game". Tried to get an eye exam with vision insurance and they wanted health insurance info "in the event there was a medical diagnosis". I assume that means they will upcode to collect from both vision and health insurance. They don't provide all the new patient forms online because when you get there you have to complete two forms that would require you pay an additional $150 (over and above vision insurance and health insurance) for other procedures that they require. I left and will not return - just wanted an updated glasses prescription which would have been covered by vision insurance and they wouldn't agree. I plan to contact the state licensing board because I can't believe this type of practice is unethical and should be illegal. read more

I have been going here for over 10 years and now to just to get a pack of 30 contact lenses I am required to get another exam every year when I just need 30 lenses a year.So to just get 1 pack it costw me over 170 dollars.I don't recommend ever coming to TSO,its all about greed.There are cheaper places to go in town. read more

2 stars only because my tech was nice. Every other encounter I had at TSO Kerrville was not as nice. I had an appointment at 4:30 & showed up 15 min. early as they requested. Their office does not close until 5:30, however my entire appointment was extremely rushed through by the doctor and receptionist. The doctor did not even introduce herself to me. She updated my prescription & gave me contacts to try, but didn't bother to check the new prescription and instead pointed to the door & told me the leave through there when I was done. I've been to the eye doctor once a year since I was in 5th grade, so I know how the appointments are supposed to go. I felt as though the doctor skipped a lot of steps during my appointment & had no interest in being friendly or personable at all. It was not even 5 PM yet & I was being rushed out the door. When I realized she put me in daily contacts instead of monthly's like I'd ordered last year, I asked the receptionist about it & she said they'd have to ask the doctor for approval & that I "may or may not get the ones I want." It was clear that I was an inconvenience to her & she was ready to get me out of the door. I am not one to go out of my way to write a negative review, but I was very unhappy with the way I was treated at TSO Kerrville. read more

So I came here because I was in Kerrville for a long period of time and ran out of contacts. Every single transaction I have had with this office has been super pleasant. Every phone call is promptly answered and they even call my back if they need too. When I went in for my appointment (which was the next day) the office staff was superior! Not only is the office neat and clean, but they also have water and coffee for you. Every single employee I interacted with exceeded my expectation. If I was going to live in Kerrville this would be my eye doctor -- hands down, no need to look else where. read more

The following is an honest review of my opinion of Texas State Optical in Kerrville, TX. I am a paying customer at Texas State Optical Kerrville. Employees are RUDE (beware of Brittany)! She was the worst, in my opinion. I have never been treated so poorly & unprofessional, as how Brittany treated me. It was appalling! The Optician tech's that handled my prescription order appear to be ignorant. Jenny did the wrong calculations (height) for my new glasses, which delayed receiving my glasses even longer. They had to send my glasses back to the lab to get fixed w the correct measurements. Lee corrected her mistake, but just like the rest of the staff there, she wasn't very friendly. I do believe in that line of work, the reps/clerks need to exhibit a professional friendly attitude & willingness to help the customer, but they failed at doing so. What happened to good customer service like we all saw just a few years ago? Something has definitely happened to the young generation. Nobody seems to want to work & help customers anymore. WHY? Many of the ones that do work, exude a very bad attitude towards customers. TSO is probably THE WORST interaction that I've ever had in Kerrville with a business. Highly recommend for quick appointment settings, warm and friendly staff They are by far the best opticians I have had in many years. I was so very pleased with the service. All the employees here are warm and welcoming!! The exam was thorough as was the attention to every detail. I am a contact lens wearer and Dr. Williamson was very informative about all my options. Making sure I thoroughly understood them. My contacts were received within a week and Dr. Avirett did the lens fitting appointment. She also made sure the lenses fit comfortably and my vision was right. These contacts are the most comfortable with the best vision I have ever had. My husband went with me and was so impressed he made himself an appointment. He saw Dr. Avirett and had a very thorough exam. She took the time to ask lots of questions and made sure she understood the exact symptoms and changes he had noticed. She personally took us to the optical side to make sure the right new glasses were being ordered. We had such a wonderful experience I recommended them to my Mother. She has already been in, ordered her glasses, and is happy. As long as everyone's glasses come in as well fitting and have as great vision as my contacts, they will have us for life. read more

TSO has moved to a new location in Kerrville, the building & interior is clean and new but that's the only positive I experienced. The parking is ok but trying to exit onto Water St. is not an easy task. I entered their establishment today as a new patient. 45 minutes prior to my appointment I received a call from one of their staff asking for the details of my insurance. I was told that is it normal for them to have the insurance details set up before patients arrive & I had commented that I submitted my insurance details when I made the appointment over the phone 4 days ago. The receptionist was irritated & proceeded to degradingly tell me again what their 'normal' procedure was for obtaining the insurance info prior to appointments. She also stated that my info was not in their system. I kindly said I was driving and could not retrieve the info at that moment but that I could come in earlier than 15 min to my scheduled appointment & bring my insurance card with me. The receptionist, annoyed by my offer said that if I chose to do that it would delay my appointment, even if I came in early. Upon my arrival 2 employees were openly discussing their frustrations about key entries into their computer system as one patronized the other openly in front of customers. I checked in at the receptionist, gathered my new patient paperwork & handed over my insurance card. I had arrived 15 min early. Finally, 40 min. after my scheduled appointment time, I was called back. The lady who took me in for my prep was solemn. She did not ask how I was doing. She did not smile. She did not greet me in any manner that was courteous or friendly. I asked her how her day was. She barely answered and further commented it was stressful. We went through the motions of a normal eye exam. Dr. Avirett came in and greeted me. She also looked unhappy, but she shook my hand? We followed through the motions for the continued eye exam. Upon my exit she confirmed & questioned my decision that I did not want dilation/refraction done on my eyes. I explained that I was driving and did not plan for dilation. She seemed irritated that I refused. Yes, she cannot confirm if I have a tear but, I explained that had the office offered or commented about the possibility of me doing these additional exams during my phone conversation when setting up the appointment, I could have planned for those additional eye exams/fees. During my check out as I was paying for my co-pay, the receptionist commented that they had a new computer system and it had glitches but said that they indeed had my insurance information the whole time! OK....great, but no apologies were verbally expressed for their huffy-puffy behavior on the phone earlier that morning. I walked to the showroom to ask a few simple questions about Rx glasses. Two employees were seated at their computers. Neither of them were engaged with a customer at that time. I approached them and they didn't bother to look up from their computers. I stood, waited then coughed. One lady finally looked up and said 'You can take a seat if you like, but I'm going to lunch'. In my head I'm thinking....Wow....really? As I turned to walk away, the other lady finally decided to look up from her computer and asked condescendingly, 'can I help you.' I said no, apparently y'all are too busy & about to go to lunch.... Never was told 'Thank you' or 'How are you doing today' or any apology for the stressful environment inside the business. The negative feeling in the atmosphere was so thick you could cut it. I do not recommend this place, their behavior is so inconsiderate & unprofessional. The employees are so impersonal and very irritable. Far from any friendly staff that I encountered... Poor service, awful attitudes.... My business will go somewhere else. read more

Dr Pena is a doctor who listens and always gives his best attention. You never wait long and his staff greets with a smiles. Recently I was traveling and noticed I forgot my contact lenses. I cannot see well at night with glasses. I phoned a vision place in Lubbock Texas that had my strength in stock. Being a Saturday I knew my doctors office would be closed. Dr Pena puts his personal information on the office voice message. I text him and called . He replied within 15min. He was able to fax and email my prescription to the Lubbock eye place. They pulled my lenses And I was in good shape before dark. Dr Pena followed up with me as well. He's a great find in eye health needs! I highly recommend him and his TSO faculty ! Thanks ! read more

[UPDATE-contacts being shipped tomorrow! They believe texas state optical refused authorization to charge me another appointment/lenses/contact fee plus having to order my contacts through them. I am very disappointed in tso. I have gone there since I was a child and have never been treated this way. Will never ever be going back. Nor will i ever refer anyone there.] - I was called by texas state optical because they would not authorize a prescription from costal contacts because my prescription expires in 2 months. They could only offer me a trial pair until I made another appointment with them. I called coastal about such unprofessional behavior from an eye care center and they do not understand why they would reject it. It has more than enough time for them to order and ship them a month before it expires. I happily sent in the paper copy of my prescription and my order was filled no problem. I was charged an extra $25 at the time of my appointment just to get a paper copy of my contact prescription. I have been wary of their business practices before this incident and now this is just sad how they treat and do not respect patients. read more
