We came across to this cozy gem of a restaurant by chance, tucked away in Montmartre. So glad that we stopped by! The staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered Phanang Beef, Green Curry with Chicken, Vietnamese spring rolls, and a side of sticky rice which came in a cute woven bamboo container. Phanang Beef with sticky rice was my favorite! So flavorful and delicious. Vietnamese spring rolls wrapped in fresh mint and lettuce were also fantastic, especially with a bottle of Singha beer from Thailand. :)

I'm originally from the West Coast of the U.S., so I am used to Thai restaurants with a broader menu than you'll find at Wassana. But due to the unfortunate dearth of Thai cuisine-only restaurants in Paris, I'm giving Wassana 4 stars since I consistently have good meals there and every dining experience has been a pleasant one. (By the way, you need to pay at the front counter when leaving.)

The spare ribs are a must. Tom Ka Gai is maybe the best I've had anywhere. Curries and Sate are also good. Even the rice is cooked perfectly. Nice atmosphere. Busy but comfortable. Service is fast and efficient. And Munay (spelling?) made us feel like family. If you want a change of pace from French, Italian, sandwiches or kebabs, check out Le Banyan. It consisted of small portions of Chinese entrees, a small mixed meat main and a flavourless "traditional thai" dessert. The plating was pleasant throughout but the taste was very plain - maybe the chef knew this as he presented us with mountains of sauces to cover the dull taste. Due to the nice presentation, we called over our waitress just to confirm that this was just one meal split between two, and that we would only be paying $35 total for the meal, rather than $35 each. She confirmed that this was the case, but when our bill was brought out to us, we had been charged twice. Never one to make a scene, my friend calmly called over the waiter that had relieved our previous waitress of her shift and explained the situation. The waiter then told us he would bring out the owner. The owner must have had something against english mother tongues because the he was immediately offensive as my friend started to explain our situation. He told her that it was our mistake for eating the food and that it was impossible that our waitress had told us that the dish could be split between two people. I tried to ask if i could explain the situation and was immediately shushed - YES, actually SHUSHED, he put his finger to his mouth and told me to shush - by the owner. We explained that we did not want an expensive dinner and the waitress suggested this split meal because of that. We were told by the waiter that if we wanted something inexpensive we should have gone to McDonalds. I tried to convey that there must have been a misunderstanding and that it was not our error, but he spat a rude reply of "Two words. Cash or Credit." Due to our shock and distress we fumbled around for a few seconds trying to work out how much the bill would be split between two, and the owner pulled out his phone and said he was calling the police. We ended up having to pay over 50 euro each including wine, for average food and very very disgusting customer service. For anyone that does not want their entire night to be ruined by horrible, arrogant people - do not go here. Would not return even if I was being paid to do so.

I tried to visit the less touristy spots, but apparently this is hard to come by in Paris. Then I went to Spirit Cafe and had a very authentic French/Thai experience. My husband and I stumbled across this place on a rainy day wandering through Paris. We went at lunch time and seemed to be the only tourists in the entire place. No one spoke English, which I appreciated! We are in France, after all. In the US, I love Thai food and eat it regularly. I have my favorite dishes and so does my husband, so we thought it'd be interesting to see the difference in the interpretations of typical Thai dishes. They did not have an English menu, so I could only understand about half of what they offered, but did my best to order what I thought would be good. While the dining experience was slightly confusing (I don't speak the greatest French...), the food was delicious! I had some sort of vegetable spring roll to start, and a tofu curry as a main. I don't remember the appetizer that my husband ordered, but he got fried rice as his main. Everything we ate was freshly prepared and flavorful, and slightly different than the Thai food we experience in the US, but still very good. I'm sure that if I tried to find this place again without the help of a map, I would be lost. But the best part of travel is discovering hidden gems off the planned schedule... that is not listed in the English guide book. Overall, very pleasant experience.

Despite they said there were many reservations, they said they can seat us. We got a good seat in a corner to fit the stroller (no high chair available) and ordered a sh!t ton of food. As per usual, the restaurant is not just thai food or just viet food, it's a mixture of many south asian food. I had low expectations. For starters, we got their salmon tartar dish and their bahn cuon. The sauce for the bhan cuon was vinegar based and not fish sauce. Both dishes were delish. My husband said the salmon tartar was by far his favourite even though everything else was great. For our main, we had a green chicken curry, beef pad thai, and a grilled eggplant layered with lemongrass shrip and pork. The beef pad thai was so good that at this moment, after having had a meal at pierre sang oberkampf, i want to eat it. For dessert, we got a profiterole with green tea and vanilla ice cream covered in hot chocolate sauce. The pastry was really stale but the ice cream with the chocolate sauce is unbeatable. Their Thai Flan is not actually a flan, but a coconutty cake that has been steamed warm. We were surprised that it was not flan like but ended up really liking it. But the best part about the place is the service. The asian girl who served us was spectacular and everyone in the restaurant was accommodating! I'm really glad we stumbled here!

You can't be fooled , just simply look at the cooks who are wonderful and the most friendly faces in town! Those women also give Thai cooking lessons apparently!
