On that Friday, we had dinner at the Thai Basement and ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, Grilled Prawns and Vegetables, Coconut Rice, and Plain Jasmine Rice. However, instead of a great meal, we were greatly disappointed. For nearly $80, we were served chewy pork that was hard to cut or swallow, hard jasmine rice, burnt grilled prawns, and vegetables that were steamed instead of grilled. Additionally, we had to ask for utensils, as none were provided, and had to remind the inattentive waitress. Overall, we felt disrespected and will no longer recommend Thai Basement.

The setting is very open and very bright which kind of kills the ambiance of a Thai restaurant. The highlight of this place was our bright and bubbly waitress who was happy to help and patient with the indecisive.

Don't let that detract you, though, as it was still a really nice place with lots of parking out of the front. The restaurant was also very large and could easily fit a large group in. We ordered the spring rolls and curry puffs for entree and the green curry and beef with garlic sauce for mains. It was all really decent food, though I would say that the coconut rice was not very coconutty (Is that a word?). For the two entrees, two mains, three beers and two soft drinks it came to $106, which isn't too bad for three people and we were all very full afterwards. Places were just reopening from covid and we were glad to see this jewel still in business. We talked to Doreen and Phinit a few days before it happened and Doreen painstakingly cleaned, laid out tables, and decorated the place. It looked lovely. Phinit gave us options for the food and we ended up having a whole bunch of delicious appetizers, his vegan duck, beef massaman, chicken green curry, and shrimp... to name a few. Dessert was a family recipe coconut cake that was absolutely stellar. its still in the freezer for the anniversary! The food is always excellent and so is the service... but what is best about this place is how they make you feel like family and just do everything to take care of you. Some pictures are attached, though they dont do justice! I would highly recommend stopping here for a meal, or asking them to help host your next event. The price is extremely reasonable and the quality of food for what you pay punches well above its weight.
