Ok y'all... I always crave Thai when my go to place is closed. I don't know why my brain is the way it is. So I had to deviate from my usual place. Thai Orchid was on my way home so ordered carry-out thru Yelp. Which was quite handy. The gal that greeted me was kind. My order was ready as soon as I walked in. Perfect for my inner hungry gremlin. I did end up adding the Thai tea (because how can you not?!) That didn't even make it home. My order consisted of a large Tom Kha soup. It is a delicious and creamy coconut milk soup with mushrooms, onions, tomato's, and cilantro. It's packed full of flavor! It also comes with your choice of protein and as I'm picky about my tofu I went with the chicken. My go to at any Thai restaurant is the Pad Thai with chicken. I wish it had had a little more of the sauce but it was still pretty tasty. I'll also bump up the heat a little next time. I like my Thai spicy but I was sharing with my kiddo. Went here for lunch special. The parking wasn't hard to find but there weren't many spots. We ordered ahead over the phone to eat at the restaurant, which I do highly recommend. The food came out right away as soon as we sat down. The portion was very large for lunch. The place was fairly large. You could bring a group of coworkers for lunch kind of spot. There were only 2 people working the tables but I didn't feel like we were being ignored. The water cup was always being filled. The food was good and the price for the lunch was great. It comes with the spring roll, salad, soup and the main food. Soup was ok, it tasted like a watered down Tom yum soup with milk. I've got my drunken noodles with beef. Our family LOVES Thai and this place is our go to! Their Pad Thai is everything! Our kids are 4 and 7 years old and they SMASH! We usually do a call and pick up and our food is always ready in a timely manner. We have not dined in but when we grab our food it seems people are satisfied! One of our favorites. read more

I stopped in here with my boss during a recent business trip to Indianapolis. The ambiance is really nice and there was not much of a crowd at 8pm on a weeknight. We ordered a bottle of plum wine to share, one of my favorites, and it was wonderful. My boss suggested we start with the Tom Kha, a coconut milk soup and it was delicious!! We added chicken to the soup and it was sweet and creamy. Next I ordered shrimp pad Thai which I really enjoyed, however, I wish I had ordered it spicier. The portion size was very generous. She ordered the mussaman curry, which includes coconut milke, potatoes, pineapple, carrot, onion and peanuts. She ordered it with chicken and shrimp (good call). It is served with white rice. This dish is not spicy, despite being a curry. This is a great Thai place with a ton of options. It would be a great place to bring someone who is trying Thai food for the first time. read more

Stopped by Thai Orchid for lunch before driving back to Columbus. When I first walk in, I can see the restaurant is filled with Thai infused decor and inside is very spacious. From appetizer to main course, there are plenty options to select from. Food come out very fresh and hot. And need to mention the portion size is above average. Even though it's extremely busy during our meal, the server does come check up on us periodically. If next time I happen to stop by Indy again, I think I will come back and try other dishes. read more

Food- garden rolls were meh and that is what I was craving, thai iced tea never showed, Pad Thai was awful and sent back, shrimp special was also not good. Pad was gummy poorly cooked noodles, about 4 cubes of tofu, and had very little flavor or spice. Volcano shrimp special had watered down General Tso sauce with no spice, uncooked veg, and meh tempura shrimp. Rice was so over cooked it disintegrated on the tongue. Staff did not seem to care. Ambiance was as expected. We went here because it had been good years ago and still shows as a 4 star restaurant but what a horrible disappointment. read more

Only good thing is the taste of the food. The Service is pathetic. After being seated and quickly placing our order as we had a infant and kid with us, we had to call the server after 15 mins to ask for our waters. After 35 mins we went to the counter to ask where was our food and we were told there are too many orders. We got our food 10 mins after that. And there were only 4 tables- 2 who already had their food before we were seated. After waiting for the bill- we had to get up again and go to their register/ counter to ask for our check. I am an avid "Me Time" spender, so tonight I chose a little Thai food Thai Orchid has been on my to-do list for years and I've finally made it here! When I walked in I was expecting it to be a little more "fancy" looking than what it was. It looks like a Thai version of a "Mom & Pop" place.....like nothing really spectacular to look at, but the food is good. I ordered Thai fried rice with ginger chicken. Overall the food was exceptional and very flavorful. The only con I had was the fact that they do not offer any sauces.‍ Although I did not have any sauce for my rice (I like SAUCE), it was very tasty without it! The customer service is kind of bland, but I guess because I was dining so close to closing time, they were ready for me to bounce! I was delighted by my visit to Thai Orchid! I went with a coworker to try the lunch special, and I would go so far as to say it's one of the best in the area where value and quality are concerned. The restaurant is on the small side, but cleanly kept. The waitstaff (we interacted with two servers) were friendly and efficient, bringing us our drinks and a starter soup (another highlight of the lunch special) right away. I ordered Pad Kea Mao, which was a new choice for me and one that I didn't regret! My entree featured wide, flat noodles cooked with sautéed veggies in a sweet-sour sauce. The sauce was very oily and a little overpowering, but I cleaned my plate. My friend ordered the chicken fried rice and was also very pleased. Tried this place after work and it was very delicious. They did enforce social distancing within the building with employees and customers. I order the crab fried rice (medium) and crab Rangoon. It took about 10 minutes to prepare the food. The rice was very good and was loaded with crab, egg, scallions, onions, and carrots. Will definitely order from them again. read more

Not sure how this place ranks among Indy restaurants because I was just visiting, but in comparison so other Thai restaurants that I've been to, I'd say overall the food was average. The starter salad was pretty tasty. For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp rolls, chicken on skewers, and fried tofu. They were all good, but nothing stood out. As for the main course, we split a beef salad and the whole fried fish. I expected more spice from the salad. As for the fish, it was fried to perfection, but the sauce was a very basic fish sauce (Even though I like it, I feel as if it's more of an acquired taste that's not for everyone). For dessert, we ordered the fried banana w/ ice cream and sticky rice with mango. The mango special was probably my favorite all night. The service was excellent, and the restaurant provides an excellent atmosphere. Clean for an asian place, lol. They make these cool little flowers out of the straw wrappers for the special drinks. So you know they're putting in the effort; they deserve the recognition for it. read more

3.5 Stars Thai Orchid is one of two Thai restaurants in the Castleton area. This restaurant can be a bit hard to see from 86th Street as it is a bit off of the main road, but it is fairly easy to get to once you turn onto Bash Street. The menu offers numerous selections, including many of the traditional Thai dishes that you would expect to see. While there is no gluten free menu, they do offer a handful of options. The Tom Kha variation of soups and all of the curries are gluten free. The Pad Thai, while it is made of rice noodles, it does contain small amounts of soy sauce. There is even a gluten free desert option, sticky rice, available. The portions were huge and allowed for another meal. Something to be aware of and some what of a pet peeve of mine, is that the shrimp is does come with the tail attached. Not really a biggy to some, but annoying to others. If you are looking for dessert in a class, I recommend the Thai Iced Tea. Their offering is one of the sweetest that I've had in awhile, so much so, I could only finish half of it. If your in the Castleton area and looking for a quick meal with friendly service, Thai Orchard is a good option. read more

The Pad Thai had all of the right flavors that you crave from a Pad Thai dish, but the pork was over cooked, dry, and not seasoned well. I was disappointed about the meat but the flavors of the noodles made up for the lack in the protein. The service was far from good, not attentive to our table at all and didn't even give us an option for dessert at the end. Talked about ordering an appetizer until our server told us that Saturday lunch all entrees come with Tom Kha soup, spring roll and salad. Bring on the Tom Kha while we make up our minds! The soup was pleasant - not too spicy and good coconut flavor. The lunch portion comes in a small bowl with vegetables only - no chicken. Ready to order - we had: Pad Makhau with beef. Spicy level - hot. Egg plant chunks were good sized, green pepper, round slices of carrot, basil. Beef was tender and the sauce was definitely hot. Pad Gra Prow with chicken. Spicy level - medium hot - and then I added garlic chili sauce. Green beans were crispy, onion, bell peppers, basil. Great combo of veggies with the chicken. Daughter had Massaman Curry with shrimp - medium hot. Nice chunks of veggies - potatoes were soft - pineapple added a touch of sweet to the curry. She declared the dish "superlicious". Why did I say the meal was fun? Our server joked with us about our undecisiveness, the appetizer, the spice levels we chose. Just the right touch of banter to add to the overall experience. I am becoming a Thai food lover! Ive been trying different Thai spots around town and have yet to be disappointed. I was in the castleton area on a Sunday and very hungry, so decided to order takeout on my way home. After reading some reviews on here first of course, and considering my recent love of curry, I settled for the yellow curry with shrimp (medium hot) and crab Rangoon. It was very pricey for one person (about $21), but luckily I had enough leftovers for another full meal the next day! The yellow curry was amazing. Probably my favorite I have had so far. The spice was just right and I loved the sweetness from the coconut milk. The shrimp was great in it as well. I'll definitely order this again or try other curries. As for the crab rangoon, I've had better at other places but it was still yummy and good with the sauce. I want to try more Thai dishes and this seems like a great place to do it. Just be aware you may spend a lot. Can't wait to try this place again! read more

I wound up at Thai Orchid today for lunch after stopping at two other Thai places in the Castleton area - one permanently closed and another wasn't open on Mondays - so I was glad when we got here and it was open! It was nice that the all the lunch items were $7.99. I got the Pad Ped which I really enjoyed. I asked for "hot" and it was solidly hot, but not unbearable. I'd like to try this place a couple more times before I give it 5 stars but I'd definitely like to go back and try out a few more items. read more

Recently we ordered some food to go and I although I hate give anywhere a bad review at this time, but my last experience was really not good. First, they made a mistake on the protein on the pickup order I ordered and instead of chicken in my Tom Kha soup, I got tofu. I like tofu, so I was willing to overlook this issue... Second, the Tom Kha soup was extremely sweet. Third, I ordered the soup at medium spice and there was absolutely no spice or flavor beyond very sweet coconut. I and a coworker had lunch here recently, and it was a very good lunch indeed! I love me some spicy food so I went for extra hot, just to make sure I could still eat my food. I think next time I'll get Thai spice since I want that extra kick! The extra hot was tasty and spicy, but I am quite adventurous when it comes to heat. We were immediately seated upon entering and were given a bowl of the coconut soup that everyone has raved about in other reviews. Normally, I don't like anything coconut. This had warm spices in it and was so much more than just coconut! Good, complex flavors. The fresh cilantro added that kick of freshness. The lunch special comes with the soup, salad, and an egg roll. I chose the Thai fried rice with beef. It was very hearty! It was packed with flavor and spice with vegetables that were at that perfect crisp-tender texture. My coworker really enjoyed her Yellow Curry with rice! I've ordered carryout from them twice in the last month and they always do a fantastic job. When ordering carryout, some restaurants give you less food than when you dine it or the quality seems not as good. Thai Orchid's food remains fabulous whether it's dine in or takeout. I love the yellow curry! I get a 2 out of 5 for spice level. I like spicy food, and that's the perfect amount for me so I can still enjoy it without washing the spice down with a cup of water after each bite. All of the noodle dishes I've had from them are also great. read more

Thai Orchid is one of the nearby Thai restaurants that gets our regular business because it's consistently good all around. Good service, good food, and good wait time. At our most recent visit, we noticed they changed some of their menu items. My husband tried the new roasted duck in red curry {Thai hot}, while I ordered the massaman curry {medium hot, thank you!}. My love for this dish is two-fold: 1. one of the ingredients is pineapple chunks and 2. I can choose tofu as the protein instead of flesh. And so you fellow veggies know, the tofu in this dish is cooked and firm, not squishy. My husband said his roasted duck was perfectly cooked as he started to get the sweats from the spiciness. Like I mentioned, this has easily become one of our go-to places because of their consistency across the board. First I have to say that I would have given it 5 stars but the food was inconsistent over two visits. The seating and the service was great. Both were immediate. The owner even came over to chit chat for a moment, which was nice. Our orders were taken quickly and while the food took a little longer than expected, it was worth the wait. Every dish was piping hot and had just the right amount of spice. It looks like it was just taken out of the wok, and not under a heat lamp. Each of the dishes was great, I can't say enough. The crab rangoon was PERFECT! And so were the money bags. The entrees were just as good as each had a distinct flavor. None of the flavors was too strong or weak. Another plus is that all of the ingredients tasted fresh, not frozen. The second time we went the entrees were great, but the crab rangoon was overcooked. If this was a $2.99 appetizer from a chinese take-out place it wouldn't be a big deal, but the appetizers are NOT cheap here. I would highly recommend this place and if my next visit is fantastic, I will change my review and score to reflect that. read more

I have driven by this restaurant so many times and finally got a chance to try it. The food was absolutely amazing. I got the pad Thai and it was delicious! I would definitely eat it again and be very happy. The prices are great. What wasn't so great that led to my deductions was the service. The servers forgot 2 things we ordered throughout the meal and we had to get our bill corrected twice. But the most disappointing part was that we were ready to pay and waited for 30 minutes and no one came to get our checks so we ended up needing to leave and having to go find someone to cash us out. This was all somewhat frustrating and is why I took off some stars. I would probably eat here again but as takeout not sit down. read more

Our meals were fine, good portions with cheerfully provided extra veggies ($1 extra) and certainly hot (spice and temp) enough. We ordered "hot" and I wonder what "Thai hot" would be like. Both our meals were nearly identical components in different flavored broth. Fried spring rolls look like previously frozen bought at Kroger. It's clean, friendly, and inviting. We so wanted to enjoy our first ( and probably last) time with Thai Orchid. The reviews were positive. We aren't on this side of town often so here was our chance. Preface this by saying all 3 items we ordered were fried. 1. Crab Rangoon(reviews said great). The dough was totally underdone, under-fried. Had to cook when reached home. Filling was good. 2. Shrimp Tempura- ok this has us baffled. The essence of tempura is a lightly battered process. The same battered was used as in all our dishes and was so oily, not tempura bleh. In addition, why were there greasy deep fried onion rings included with the shrimp? Not listed on menu or would have not had them included . So this 2nd dish was full of grease. 3. Orange Chicken- trying a basic at a new restaurant that is pretty standard. Overcooked and chicken totally dried out to the point no flavor or taste, all batter. Part of the issue here was the chicken pieces were very small and I guess these were deep fried too in the same oil as the rest of the dinner, so dried out immediately. Could not eat. Basically threw $35 in the trash. We did pickup and while we were waiting ( only had one server working the phone, carry out and the guests dining in) there were 2 tables of 2 with menus and water and a third single diner who evidently had been waiting a long time as he went and got his own menu and then still waited and finally got up and left. This was a Tuesday night. Would have taken pictures, but food was tossed before I could. I hope this was just a bad night for them, but I doubt we will ever be back. read more

I am WOWED by this place. I am so happy we came here!!! I am vegan, gluten free, and try to eat clean. I love Thai cuisine, but it's hard to find authentic dishes around. Thai Orchid surpassed my expectations. The place is delightful inside- dressed in more traditional fashion. It's still clean and well taken care of. It is cozy! The service was spectacular despite the place being quite busy inside and for to-go. Our server was sweet and knowledgeable. She was very attentive! We started with the fresh spring rolls, which are indeed fresh- served with two dressings on the side: peanut and sweet and sour. Neither were too heavy or processed. Both very tasty! I ordered the Red Curry with Veggies and it is THE BEST curry I've ever had. It is SO flavorful. The veggies were very fresh! My partner order the stir-fried Eggplant with veggies and he really enjoyed it! It comes with a brown sauce and is cooked well. Veggies are crisp--adding just the right pop of flavor. The Pad Pak Ruam (Thai hot) did not disappoint. Rama Delight (from the dinner menu) was cooked perfectly- crispy veggies and tender chicken.
