Thai Square is in the heart of central London - a commanding restaurant on Cockspur Street, the entrance boasts a gorgeous water fountain with gold thai statues at either side. The food at Thai Square is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. I really couldn't fault it. The prawn dumplings are gorgeous, as was the prawn pandang - the creamiest, tastiest sauce. Sure, my date and I enjoyed a bottle of Moet & Chandon Rose with dinner, but I'm sure the food would've been amazing regardless! I had always been intrigued by this luxurious looking restaurant as I passed by on the bus, but had always assumed it'd be out of my price range. However, I was pleased to find it is actually pretty reasonable - averaging at just over £10 for a main and side, so i decided to go there with some family last week. We wanted something special but not overly formal and what an excellent choice it turned out to be. The hotel-like entrance complete with fountains and gold decor, along with waitresses dressed in evening wear give the allusion of grandeur, and the views out to Trafalgar Square are amazing. Better than this was the food, which was amazing. I had a green thai curry, and others went for sweet and sour chicken and cashew nuts. All was beautifully served and couldn't be faulted on taste. The wine was also excellent. I am simply amazed by this place. The food, location, decor and service could command a much higher price, but instead you can enjoy a night of privilege without coming near to breaking the bank. Our first night in London and we decided to go here because it was close to our hotel. We both got the Pre-Theater Prix Fix menu: Chicken Satay, Eggroll, Siu Mei, and Fish Cake Chicken Curry Vegetarian Pad Thai Cashew Chicken with mango and soy sauce Coconut Ice Cream For £14.50pp, it was a good deal of food for the price for 2. The appetizers were good enough - we just decided not to compare the Thai food we have in the States. I have to say that leaving our reference points at home helped in that we experienced foods fresh from a different perspective. The curry had nice flavors, but the chicken was just too dry. It was clear they used chicken breast and I think for a curry, or any kind of stew, you really need thigh/rib meat so it doesn't get overly dry. The vegetarian Pad Thai was a little too sweet for my taste. The cashew chicken was good, especially with the rice. All in all, a good enough meal for our first night, but we were headed for better pastures elsewhere in London, especially after realizing that Thai Square was a chain restaurant. If you're craving some Asian food, this could be a good spot to satisfy a craving, but there are better places to go in London. read more

Same thing happened to us. We weren't given the option of tap water. We were asked sparkling or still water. We asked for still, thinking it would come in complimentary carafe of water. When the water came, we were surprised and she immediately opened the bottle and pour into our glasses before we can do anything, and have to pay for it. Remember to always ask whether water served is complimentary or not. Spoke with the manager who insisted that's how the business is run and we have to specifically ask for tap water if we want free water. Pretty much spoiled the whole dining experience. Thai square is one place to be at in Trafalgar Square. One fantastic monument. With a special menu for the season, this is a nice place to enjoy this festive season. The chef's recommendation is exquisite. If you have never tried the Pad Thai Kai it will be a thrilling experience. Pak Toon is fancy vegetarian dish. So a great place to visit and enjoy great Thai cuisine, while in the centre, checking out the vibrant night life around Trafalgar Square. Favorite thai restaurant when we are in London. We enjoyed the starter which is called golden sacks (shrimp ball), thai papaya salad, massamum curry, fried flat rice noodle, pad Thai, and tamarind duck. The pre theatre menu is half price before 7.30pm, what a good deal for good food. Service is top and sometimes they offered prawn crackers (not sure why it is not consistent in my every visit). If you're around Trafalgar Square for lunch, they have a limited but good lunch menu for £7.50. I'm a big green curry fan so definitely like going for the lunch box on that one. Food is definitely reliable but the service... can.. be... so... slow... I find it a real treat if I don't eat at my desk for lunch so when I do eat out - I'd like them to hurry up please! We had to wave at the wait staff almost 3 times for us to take our order and about twice to ask for the bill. Really good Thai food. I have pretty severe food allergies and it was such a relief to see allergens called out on the menu. My waiter helped modify some selections and even went to the kitchen to confirm they understood and could accommodate. The restaurant is a bit loud but it wasn't intrusive. On the outside, this looks like a tourist trap right on the edge of Trafalgar Square, but although it is a bit overpriced for Thai, the food is pretty good. First, the restaurant is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly and warm. However, the food isnt so great. We had the corn cake appetizers, they were very dry and stale. We ordered Gold Curry with chicken and potatoes, it was delicious but very little chicken. We tried the coconut rice which was delicious and the veggie skewers which were terrible, just a shriveled piece of fried tofu and some sliced onions and peppers and a tiny tomato, not good at all. Food was good (just as good as Silicon Valley restaurants). This is the third time we had been here, but the service, food, and atmosphere was so much better. They didn't have my favorite, Ginger Chicken, on the menu, but they made it for me anyway. It was very tasty. We has a Blue Slate Dr. Loosen Reisling-- fantastic with the Thai food. Admittedly in the past I had not been happy with Thai Square but I was in the area and wanted Thai food so my wife and I stopped in. The good news is that service was dramatically better than before (2 years back) and the food was simply outstanding. The decor was very nice but the music didn't seem to match. The hostess was very welcoming and sat us quickly and exactly where we wanted. The waitresses where very nice, efficient and always present but not intrusive throughout the meal. They were also accommodated our request for items not on the menu. We started with a appetizer sampler with satay chicken, dumplings, crab cakes, shrimp toast, and fried spring rolls. All were very tasty and fresh with nice flavorful slightly spicy peanut sauce and a spicy sweet chilly sauce. Neither of our entrees, ginger chicken and chicken pad siew, were on the menu but both were outstanding. The ginger chicken had excellent flavoring without over doing the ginger and the chicken and vegetables were fresh and nicely cooked (My wife thought it was one of the best she has ever had). The chicken pad siew was also outstanding with noodles, chicken and vegetables perfectly cooked. Although the flavor differs from what I am used to in the US it was still very, very good. Lastly the chocolate molten cake with vanilla pod ice cream was decadent without going overboard and was one of the best I have had (the only competitor would be the one from Gotham Bar and Grill in New York). Overall the food was good to the point that you want to lick the plate clean. I definitely planning on going here again! Note: It was nice that the are open until 10:30 pm. read more

I'm loving Thai food recently and I have to say, this one delivered the goods! We went there after a westend show, having missed the chance to eat beforehand. I can honestly say that it was worth the wait! The food is delicious and delightfully presented. The staff are courteous and attentive and the bill not too huge for the middle of town. If it loses a star, its because of the men mountain types outside providing security for the place. Looked more like something out of a 30's gangster flick than a restaurant! The lunch special for £9.95 is a filling meal for an average appetite. The green curry was spiced well and the meal is flavorful. Also, the spicy seafood soup is true to description and delicious. I mean £13.50 for a pad thai chicken, £3.50 for a double espresso you gotta be joking. And service charge on top of that, (though no problem with the staff, the food did take long to arrive however) It's not just the price, it's the flavour of the food, the loud and crowded ambience (I could literally converse with the table next to me no problem, like 30cm gap between tables) as well as the decoration being outdated. I to be really impressed with Thai Square, but not so much now. I would describe the food as average (the starters - less than average and a little bland). I must admit, the decor at this particular branch is beautiful - ornate decoration, attention to detail and traditional costume for the girl providing the music. Maybe it was because it was a Friday night, but the service wasn't the greatest. They took forever to take our order and when they eventually took the order, the starter came out first - before even getting the drinks. To add to the evening, we had a rocky table, so we had to get that fixed (i.e the waiter crawled under our table and shoved folded bits of their menu under the table leg - all very awkward lol); a bee was circling my wine glass, so had to get that replaced. In addition, considering we booked a table, I think we were just given some random table that was free - disappointingly, the table by the door . We checked into our Trafalgar hotel hungry after a long flight and asked about a place to eat close by. This place was recommended. We got there at ten to three when they close their lunch kitchen at three but they happily accomodated us. Their pad thai blew me away. Best I have had. A nice clean, well decorated place with great service. It is a white table cloth restaurant, but there were lots of people dressed very informally. It looked like a lot of local business people come for lunch, which itself is a good recommendation. We were wanting to try out several places in London, but this was so good we had to come back for dinner. I had a lamb curry with coconut rice that was really outstanding. They did not even serve it with a knife because none was needed. The meat fell off the bone with a light touch of the fork. The curry sauce was rich and delectable. My wife had the pad thai noodles because she was so impressed after tasting mine at lunch, and she was delighted with them also. Highly recommended. read more

Came in and it was packed so they sat us as the first table of two upstairs. There had to be 6 additional tables of two also upstairs one no more then 8 inches next to us. The next table of two came up and was sat right next to us?? Now upstairs was totally empty ( no reservation signs) and they sat them there why? With the downstairs being so busy sound carries and was impossible to have a personal conversation with people practically sitting with us. Even when the waiter came to serve them his bottom was on our table...seriously! Once the other couple left we asked to speak with the manager and asked why it was done this way ( later other couples came and where settled in the father spots) she had no answer except she would speak with the staff. In the end they did nothing to make the situation better and I would never recommend anyone to go there. Food was just o.k. Sticky rice was hard and difficult to get out of the bamboo container. read more
