I've been going there for very good reasons. The food is excellent. It's got acceptable décor. Service is usually pretty fast. Did I mention that the food is excellent? It's pretty well priced too. I usually grab a red beef curry, and that's under $15. A bit of coconut rice and maybe an appetiser, and you've got a nice dinner for two for around $25. Occasionally there are mistakes made when you order, like getting chicken instead of beef, and that sort of thing. But they'll bend over backwards to make things right. That's part of the reason I like them. They're very customer satisfaction focused. Give them a go. You'll really like the food. Especially if you get off the train at Syndal after a hard day at work.

I'm not really sure about Thai restaurants…read more I've been to a couple of Thai restaurants (including one in Bangkok) but I have never really been all that impressed with them. It is not that I don't like Thailand, or the food, but rather because they don't use chopsticks. I even asked my friend who had spent some time in Thailand whether they use chopsticks to which he replied that they just use the humble fork. When I eat Asian food I like eating it with chopsticks, but then that is just my preference. This was an odd restaurant though because despite it being a Thai restaurant, the wall had a number of paintings of scenes from Greece, and one from Australia. The only reference to Thailand that I could find (with the exception of the name and the food) was a photo of the Floating Market tucked away behind the counter. The food was okay (though I forgot to spice it up) but the one dish that really caught my attention was the one that my friend bought. I can't remember its name but it was a curry with bamboo shoots in it and it reeked. I thought it was just me until a number of other objections also began to float up from the table, so I decided to hold my nose until we ended up leaving.

One of the other stars of this restaurant are the two sweet older women preparing all of the food in the front of the house. Maybe I don't get out enough but I've not seen the like of a couple of the starters they have here. The Chiang mai sausage is a beauty. There's seriously good heat in these and they have good deep spicy flavour. We loved this dish. It's one of the more interesting Thai starters I've ever had and the heat stayed with me for a while after the dish had been demolished. By contrast, the crispy fried tofu cake wasn't anywhere near as satisfying. The tofu had nothing to really lift it. The accompanying taro cake was nice and maybe helped a little. But, there was nothing else and as far as I could tell and the sweet chilli sauce promised on the menu wasn't evident. Again, I've not had anything like the fresh spring roll which is, um, fresh not fried. Interesting flavour and texture here. We liked it the dish. On to the mains then. The Thai Thani green curry was good. The sauce is thinnish not thick and creamy as it can be sometimes. We liked it. The texture of the winter bamboo particularly sparked my interest in this dish which had good kick throughout. The Pad Thai here is a good one as well. A large serving with good flavour. We also liked that the noodles were thinner than usual. The Salmon Choo Chee curry is lovely too. We've not seen this in s Thai place before. The salmon was done beautifully and even had the promised crispy skin. The dish had good curry flavour that we enjoyed. The veggies were cooked perfectly too with some residual crispness still evident which we always love. To top things off, the rice was cooked superbly as well. Light and fluffy just as it should be. Service was adorable throughout. There were three young servers always at the ready at the counter to take our order, deliver dishes and drinks and clear everything away. Their efficiency and politeness was fantastic. The only slight downside to the evening was the bloke at the next table who kept looking over at ours. Like, constantly! I found it rather unnerving and started to stare back til he turned away. This was a good meal overall. This Thai food is different to the customary local Melbourne Thai but we liked it. We liked the restaurant itself too. We would happily return.

The food is tasty, the service is good (way more friendly than Thaila Thai for example), and price-wise it is moderately priced - similar to other Thai joints in the area. If you are not looking specifically for Thai food, I'd probably rather go to Cafe 58 round the corner. Alternatively, if it has to be Thai, then I'd recommend travelling that little bit further to Ying Thai 2 on Lygon street.

The outside doesn't look like much but once inside, it is neatly decorated with great music making it a wonderful place to stop by for takeaway (close to train station) or if you are going for a dance lesson next door. We ordered a thai milk tea, chef's pork special (crispy pork with vegetables) and a beef massaman curry. The crispy pork was definitely our favourite along with the thai milk tea. This place has an entertainment voucher so next time I visit, I will be bringing that but overall caring and attentive service, staff seemed to know the regulars and has a relaxing atmosphere.
