I had 38k worth of equipment installed on 10/22/25 by Thayer Air-conditioning, since the new equipment was turned on, my home has been subjected to outrageously high/unhealthy levels of humidity (Digital Readout from home monitors). This complaint by me was met with counter accusations, excuses and name calling by the owner none the less, neglecting the fact I have electronic readouts showing the new system and its effect on my entire home. Two months into dealing with this Thayer's reluctant answer was to install (for free/an admission of guilt) a dehumidifier, in turn this now runs all the time is vibrating the home. In addition to the humidity problem, they also installed a home air purification kit (2), these were installed incorrect according the manufactures specifications, they argued this point, stating the Germicidal U/V lights would not effect plastics within the air handler/furnace, ignoring the install specs stating "do not expose plastics, non UV rated to this UV light" placing blame on the air handler/furnace manufacturer "all plastics inside are UV rated", "that's what we were told" was Thayers response. The plastics inside, some no more than 2 inches away all showed signs of deterioration including actual bubbles/flaking/burnt marking on plastic within Line of sight of UV light bulb. I immediately brought this to Thayers attention and there's has been NO action (besides opening up units to verify my finds) or responses on their part, but like the humidity problem, I will take action including this submittal and other reviewing websites as well communication with the manufactures of the equipment they are installing incorrect, until there is resolve. If you had asked me about 6 months ago, I would have given Thayer AC 5 stars. They came out when I needed them the first time. They replaced our whole AC unit a couple of years ago and their work and customer service was great, until their last maintenance visit. The technician told me the drain line was clogged and that they could fix it. I watched the technician very sneakily pull out a spray and spray it into the line. That's all he did. He charged us $150 for it. Everywhere I've looked, drain line cleaner sprays cost max, $35 per bottle. Never letting them clean my drain line again. Thanks. I'll do it myself. read more

Thayer Air Conditioning mislead us about the tax credit qualification of the new AC system they sold us and used that $2,000 value to upsell us on a larger, more expensive unit we would not have purchased otherwise. This is stated in the fully executed Work Order/Invoice attached. They installed the air handler in our attic incorrectly causing it to stop working just 2 weeks after it was installed. For the next 4 weeks, we were stuck in an extremely stressful and exhausting battle with Chris Thayer and his team. Chris Thayer and his team did not call us or show up for scheduled appointments. We had to chase them multiple times to provide services promised in our contract. The technicians/installers were rude, disrespectful, and lied to us about work they said they completed while at our home. The installer admitted that the air handler was not installed correctly, yet Chris Thayer continued to only offer to repair the air handler even though it was irreparable at that point. After consulting with another reputable AC company in our area, filing a complaint with the company we financed our system through, and raising a case with Trane, the maker of our unit, it was officially confirmed that the air handler was installed incorrectly. It was installed backwards which did not allow the system to function properly causing it to shut down. It was only after we took the actions noted above, that Chris Thayer finally agreed to install a new air handler and stop trying to repair the original one. After the new air handler was installed, we had a Trane field representative meet the Thayer installation team at our home to inspect their work and ensure the new air handler was installed correctly. The Trane field representative had to correct Thayer on several things that were still not done correctly as part of the install which further proves that Thayer technicians are not properly trained or educated to install the systems they are selling to their customers. Our Work Order includes quarterly maintenance service calls to our home. I must consistently call Thayer to remind them that we're due for these. Our most recent quarterly maintenance visit occurred on March 26th. The technician was rude and disrespectful. He was at our home for a total of 11 minutes start to finish. When I contacted Thayer AC to ask what the standard time for one of their technicians to complete a quarterly maintenance visit is, they stated that it should take the technician approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. When I told them that the technician was only at our home for a total of 11 minutes, they stated they would send another technician out that same day. We still have not received this service that we paid for. I hope that by posting this review others will be able to avoid the same terrible experience that we have been through. read more

We requested a preseason inspection of our two AC units (2-ton and 4-ton), and Thayer Air Conditioning was very responsive, and very thorough. We had an appointment within days of calling, and they arrived when they said they would. Karl was awesome, checking our two systems for seasonal operation including electrical, pressures, temperature splits and overall unit health. He also rinsed the condenser coils, checked the thermostats, and answered all of my questions. There was no pressure to up-sell me on anything, just a solid recommendation to have surge protection installed to extend compressor life. We declined this for the time being but are considering the upgrade. All in all, GREAT service, and I will most definitely call on them again if and when needed. read more

I requested an $89 service for my A/C. The technician that came to my house spent about 20 minutes total looking at my system and then proceeded to give me his suggestions that, if taken, would cost over $4000. I really felt like he was in a hurry to be done with me. I will not be using this company again. read more

Horrible customer service! Do not call! Told me they would be at my house at 3:30 it is now 6:30 still no one, called 4 times and every time they told me the tech was on the way, why lie just tell me the truth, I could have called another company! Now I have to put out of town family in hotel for the night since it is 85 in my house, thanks! I even drove to their location and found one guy cleaning up who told me the phone people is just an outsourced call center. Thought I was dealing with a local New Braunfels company, guess not. Update: Chris Thayer did come out to the house and helped his employee, they had to order a part and James was out Monday morning to replace. On Saturday the unit stopped cooling again so I will attempt to contact Chris and see what can be done. read more

Bobby our technician came to help with our AC. We called at 2pm as our AC stopped working on the hottest day of the year! Bobby was there at 7pm and stayed late to diagnose the issue. This guy is a HARD WORKER! Hot as you know what up in the attic, late in the day, up and down our stairs, Bobby never seem to let it get to him. Our communication with the Thayer office to get invoices since has been great. Highly recommend! read more

Would not recommend this company to anyone!! They advertise a 49.00 service call, when they get there they inform you that it was just to knock on your door. They proceeded to go in and out and take pictures of themselves working for proof when they sent the outrageous bill. Ended up being billed for 350.00 for things I didn't know they were doing, did not authorize them to do and never would have had done!!! They are slick operators who remind me of used car salesman. I called Thayer in an emergency when my AC unit went down late Saturday night. My technician, Ray Tapia, showed up promptly on Sunday morning and was able to remedy the "short cycling" issue and even went back to the shop to pick up a part that wasn't available on the truck. Although extremely busy, Ray took the time to explain the entire process to me (landlord) and the renter. I would definitely recommend Thayer in the future. read more

First off, Thayer came out to look at our unit and charged us $10 more than two other AC businesses I contacted (I found that out after the fact). Second, they were going to charge me $547 to inject dye plus add refrigerant to the unit THEN said they'd come out two days later to see where the leak was. That wouldve been on top of any necessary repairs. They were going to charge me twice as much as anyone else for refrigerant that was going to possibly leak out in two days...Third, I'm all for employees being on time and maybe even a few minutes early. I was told we would be contacted when they were on the way. I just happened to be home when they arrived two hours before allotted time, without a phone call. I almost did not let them in since I do not allow solicitors. Thankfully, I found another reputable local business to use, therefore, saving me hundreds of dollars, and our AC is working. read more

CT Mechanical service put in a completely new system and it's worked pretty well for us. Our utility bill has dropped and Chris did a wonderful job and was respectful and considerate of our home. Now we are cooler and are saving money with a more efficient, powerful unit. read more
