A moment of serendipity had us check out The Country Abbey for our father's funeral. We wanted the funeral in Justin and the church next door could not accommodate us on the date we needed. So we walked over to The Country Abbey on a Sunday afternoon. The door was unlocked and we walked in and met Naomi. We talked to her for a moment and immediately booked the venue for the following Friday. This was our first funeral but not our first event to plan, and I have to say Naomi was quite possibly the most accommodating vendor with which I have had the pleasure to work. As an Interior Designer, I asked to rearrange some furniture and she made it happen. We asked for extension cords, items to help with the AV equipment, late meetings at the Abbey the night before to drop off cases of beverages and additional items we needed for the funeral service, and Naomi could not have been nicer. She never said "no". Who meets you at 10 p.m. to unlock the doors so your event the next morning will go smoothly? Naomi! Regarding the space, the "chapel" is just the right size - not too small and not so cavernous that it would look empty if the head-count was low. The backdrop is clean and uncluttered with no religious imagery or symbolism. The reception space was completely set up with the items we requested when we arrived 2 hours early for our event. Everything was clean and we lacked for nothing. Saying goodbye to our father was hard enough and we didn't need any more stress preparing for his funeral. There are dozens of things that have to be done that you might not think of, and Naomi made it virtually stress-free. I can not say enough good things about Sarah and Naomi at the Country Abbey. Our original wedding date was supposed to be 05/01/20 but due to Covid we had to change our plans quickly. Sarah (the coordinator) contacted me and worked with me to reschedule our wedding date for Oct/2020. It was such a stressful time for me but Sarah made it so much easier. Any time I had a question, concern or anxiety, I could always email, call or pop in for a visit to the Abbey and she always eased my fears. She offered so many ideas when I was unsure of how to do things and she and her team decorated the Abbey so beautifully for our wedding. I wanted a simple, clean and rustic look and she put it together perfectly! Our ceremony went off without a hitch because Sarah made sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do and say. I couldn't have pulled off this wedding without Sarah and her amazing abilities. She treated me like I was her only client even during the pandemic and when there were many other brides dealing with the same thing I was. Also the price for the venue was extremely reasonable and the cheapest I found anywhere! I highly recommend the country Abbey for your wedding, it was everything I had hoped for and more! My daughter got married on 5/19/2019 at the Country Abbey. We were very happy with the way it turned out. We opted to have the wedding on a Sunday in order to save money. It all worked out fine - we had to have the rehearsal at 11 am on Saturday since they had a wedding Sat. night, but that was no big deal... we just had a rehearsal "lunch" instead of dinner. The venue had a bridal room as well as the groom's room - very nicely laid out. My daughter and her groom each had a total of 6 attendants. If my daughter had had more than 6 attendants, I think the bridal room would have been pretty cramped, but as it was, it was just great and had room for the make-up artist and hair stylist to do their work. There were options to use their caterer for a full-service wedding, but we opted to have more of a D.I.Y. wedding and essentially rent the venue for the ceremony and reception, with some other services added on a la cart. I think by having the wedding on a Sunday we had more options to D.I.Y. so be sure to ask about that. They gave us a list of all the things we could rent piece by piece, which was nice knowing that we didn't HAVE to go and borrow/buy the stuff ourselves, but we COULD if we wanted to. (For example, we provided our own glass drink dispensers, but rented table decorations and the cake stand.) We hired a DJ, photographer, and wedding coordinator, and had great friends who volunteered to serve the cake and platters of cheese, fruit, and snacks, which we ordered from Market Street and had delivered. (Highly recommend doing that for anyone on a tight budget!) We knew in advance what we would be charged for by the Country Abbey, and Sarah was very responsive with answering our questions. The chapel was very pretty - I think we had less than 120 people but the venue could certainly hold more. I loved how convenient it was to have the reception there on property. The kitchen was nice and large, and there was a separate area adjacent to the kitchen that was perfect for staging and getting things ready. There were no hidden fees or surprises... we knew exactly what we were getting and the big day went very smoothly and beautifully. The Sunday wedding was well worth the savings and flexibility. I have two more daughters, and I would not hesitate to have their weddings at this venue when the time comes. read more

WORST BUSINESS TO WORK WITH-Will not allow you to use the space that you rented. When you arrive and it is dirty they will NOT allow you to clean it in order to use it. When you arrive the tables will not be set-up according to the 100 emails exchanged regarding set-up. You will then get to spend your time setting up the venue according to what you have paid for even if you have other things you will need to be doing. The business will not provide an inventory list requested by the wedding planner multiple times. The venue will leave you there by yourself to set-up and figure out things for yourself. If you touch anything of the venue's they will keep your "damage deposit" even if you didn't damage it. They call it "renting," but we already rented the venue for 12 hours. They will not give pricing for things you might touch upfront. They will just keep an imaginary number of $ and then tell you why later. If you rent the houses, they will also charge you for "extra cleaning" if the sewer backs up into the sink and tub. They demand to hire the bartenders for the event. They will not share with you who they are or allow communication with the bartenders in advance. Our bartenders showed up 30 minutes late. We paid for 5 hours for 2 bartenders and we got 4.5 hours. The portion of the venue that we were not allowed to use was about 1/11 of the venue and was the main reason we booked this location for our wedding. This company owes me $620. We will be hiring an attorney because the lady that owns this venue thinks she can make stuff up. Venue refund $375 1/11 of venue space not allowed to use or clean for use, $45 for the bartenders being late, $200 for damage deposit returned (because nothing was damaged). read more

If only there were a option for no stars. I encourage anyone looking to rent this venue to read this review. We looked to book this venue back in August of 2018. The cost was great to rent but decided to look at other options to decide upon. When we decided to book with the Country Abbey the price went from around $600 to $2500. Still no big deal, as we talked about it and decided that it was our best choice to get married. We met with Sarah the "Coordinator" (I'll get to that later) at the Abbey to pay our down payment to rent. We then met at the catering tasting to choose the food we wanted at our wedding. At that point is when we found out that catering was not included in the price we talked about. It was going to cost another $1500+ to have their caterers. It was a very unexpected surprise to us and we felt deceived. Well the contract we signed certainly wasn't clear as it just stated "Country Abbey catering" with no price beside it. So yes we emailed the owner "Naomi" about the situation. Not willing to do anything but apologize for their mistake (Not misunderstanding) she then proceeds to email Sarah, telling her she was just going to send us the invoice for our wedding instead of resolving anything with us. I know this because she sent this "Shop Talk" email to ME instead of Sarah by accident. This email does mention that they are expecting a bad review even before the wedding has happened due to their lack of resolution. What does that tell you? At this point we're very disappointed in the customer service we had received. The big problem here wasn't the money we had to spend even though it an was unexpected expense we had not planned for but the fact we had been told catering was included in Saturday's price and we had already sent out invitations to 75 guests. Me and my fiance did ask her about the price change specifically and we were told that the price difference reflected the catering service (Seven Loaves). Our question to Sarah was "The difference in price between Sunday and Saturday is the fact catering is not included on Sundays" She said "yes". So all along were assumed that since the cost rose from $600 to $2500 the catering was part of the price. Not sure since the price increase she knew all the details because we couldn't have been more clear. Fast forward to our wedding day. The place was decorated very nicely with the items we had rented and purchased separately. Going into last minute details and setting up "Sarah the Coordinator" was sitting in her office like nothing was going on. Not willing to pitch in on getting things coordinated like she had been paid to do. I'm sure if you read below on their comments you'll see that that is an extra charge as well I'm sure. Again when a venue has an event coordinator it is his or her job to coordinate right? Wrong! As Sarah sat in the office with the door shut I knocked and confronted her about it right before my ceremony and was told that it was another separate charge that we were again not told about. Yes I was a little frustrated at that point and was not very nice to her but I did receive the same snarky remarks from her. I am very displeased with the service that these two have given us and would never recommend this place to anyone. As I close this review I assume that these two women will try and make it seem like an unhappy customer is just venting and to not worry about them and that there is always two sides to a story.
