I was having the worst period cramps, it was that time of month. I find this location after I heard they moved from the old location they we're at before. So far I've had brain tonics, herbs like marshmallow-root and blue powder for oxygen increasing ability. I recently went to The Alchemist's Kitchen for the Spring Awakening Botanical Mixology event. I found it on Event Bright when searching for mocktail classes in NYC. I recently gave up alcohol and wanted to learn how to make fun mocktails at home. I will start by saying the store is super cute, and our instructor Ezza was very nice and knowledgable. With that being said I feel as though the event description was a bit misleading. The class is described as a "hands-on experience" where "we'll craft seasonal, alcohol free elixers..." We learned about the different herbs and spices. We were able to smell the herbs, and take notes. Our instructor Ezza prepared one small drink for the entire class to share. There were 6 of us, so we basically each had 1 shot as our tasting. I was disappointed that we did not get to experiment, or make any drinks of our own. If you are looking to listen and learn about herbal concoctions that's what you'll get, but I was looking for something a little more hands on and creative. read more

Went to the store and the elixir bar. Store has awesome selection of nootropics and other comfort things like intimacy oil and candles. They seemed be going for more breadth than depth; it feels quite curated. Elixir bar was really chill and friendly to just sit back and take a breather. I got a drink to-go, but I hung back anyway cuz the coffee table seemed so intimate and inviting! Unique drinks--I got the Red Velvet. I liked how neutral it tasted; it tasted like an actual health drink and not a sugar bomb. I attended an after hours full moon event last night. Disappointing. Coupled with being packed like sardines. The chairs had no space between. No room for movement or breath work. To start off- I have not been to the new location, so I can't review that part of the business. That being said, I love this store and it's many offerings. On a whim I bought my mom their CBD cream. She's in her 70's and lives in Ohio. She had no prior experience with cannabis but she loves this product! She swears by it for her back pain and buys jars online for all her friends. I attended many lectures about the science and psychology of psychedelics. All very informative and interesting. Alchemist Kitchen use to be affiliated with a podcast called The Evolver. They haven't published any new episodes for a while but it's totally worth going back and checking out the archive. They had episodes about yoga & meditation, shamanism, MDMA therapy, etc. Ken Jordan was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic interviewer. I miss having him in my earbuds! Overall this is a wonderful resource and a great jumping off point to journey down many rabbit holes. Some of which have changed my life. read more

One day I gave a neighbor friend a sampler pack of my Japanese incense. A few days later, she in turn gave me an assortment of incense sticks from Alchemist's Kitchen. Some were palo santo and others were....er...some type of wood. Either way the scents were sublime, and I knew that one day I'd want to check out Alchemist's Kitchen for myself. So I came to Yelp to find out exactly where it was, and as soon as I saw the block it was on I thought 'uh oh.... that looks like it's in that 'new and improved', sanitized part of the Bowery....ugh...I hate all that area now.' But, I decided to give it a try. When I first walked in, I noticed an extremely upscale/pricey drink counter. Continuing on, I saw the 'shop' with all kinds of lotions and potions. In the sampler pack my friend had given me, was a sliver of like a 'handcut' bar of soap, which was super nice. So I asked the salesman which soap it might have been, that my friend had given me. He brought me over to some soaps and said it was likely one of them. I can't remember how much a full bar of these soaps cost, but a small size (similar to what hotels leave for you at the bathroom sink...) a bar THAT size cost.... $4.00. What? I could take maybe two showers with that! Now I'm all for nice, rich soaps, but $4 for a teeny hand soap? Um, I don't think so. I went downstairs to see what was there, and it seems to be like a high-end, experimental, new age-y type spa. It had some sort of odd services if I recall. The palo santo I was considering buying very pricey. In the end, it seems to me that this is a place for rich hipsters/tourists who've no idea that there are plenty of other holistic or new age-y shops without the New Bowery pricetags. read more

Why ask for tip when it's a to-go item that I'm taking out? I visited The Alchemist's Kitchen after reading an article about it on "The Healthy-ish". When you first walk in there is a large bar where staff serve up samples of tea, special tonics, and herbal elixirs. As you walk further into the space, there are a few tables situated behind the bar for customers to sit and eat, drink, or chat with staff. The shop has a great selection of perfumed oils, incense, and tinctures, as well as things like room sprays, tarot cards, and even CBD products (they sell CBD oil, vape pens, as well as topical creams). There is also a downstairs level that houses a cocktail bar as well as a cordoned off space where visitors can pay a hefty fee to get vitamin shots and nutrient-infused IVs (yes, really). While I was impressed by the variety and vision of the shop, I found the staff to be a bit cold and not particularly helpful when I asked questions. That being said, I only spoke to two staff members, so there may be warmer folks here that I didn't interact with. I'm intrigued by the events and workshops have going on, so I'll definitely be back to see what kind of environment the shop has when filled with a larger community. read more

I'm not sure why there's so much hate for this place. I walked in on an afternoon having just started reading and researching CBD oil and they were extremely friendly and informative. I didn't get either of the staff member's names but they were able to tell me about the different CBD oils and strengths as well as all the edibles available. Their oil doesn't seem expensive for NYC - and their edibles are inline too (for example the Moxie Mints are $39 there - and they're also $39 straight from Moxie and $40 at another place nearby). All of you saying you don't get help if you don't look fancy: I'm a 36-year-old dad bod with a bald head, wearing my dad jeans, sweater, and New Balances, and they totally took care of me. Don't be intimidated by the other reviews or the staff here. They're totally pro and really helped me understand what's what. read more

I love the concept of this plant-base shop and I'm so thrilled I discovered it! My first visit to the alchemist kitchen was for an event they held in the basement regarding the north and south nodes of astrology. When i arrived i was greated by the barista from the cute coffee shop at the front and inside is where you would find the store front with all the tinctures and elixirs, cbd products as well as organic personal items. I instantly felt at home. It was a very peaceful environment which I really enjoyed. I was able to browse on my own without anyone hassling me with stuff. I have been reading the reviews on yelp about how people felt the staff was pretentious and rude. I did not get that vibe at all. I felt it was a place that speaks for itself. If you have questions then that courage has to come from you. There are so many things at this place that I feel the associate isn't going to know what you are looking for or want. Whenever I had questions or needed assistance I was given the calm attention needed. I would encourage anyone who is interested or curious to come check it out with an open mind and don't let something as small as a hello to discourage you from entering in. If you have questions just ask and you shall receive. I do agree the products are on the high end in price range and I have gone online after my visit to compare prices. If you aren't lazy and really want something that you've seen there you can find a good deal. otherwise its your own fault to settle for a product price that the store is offering for obvious reasons (limited overall supply in nyc, convience, nyc ridiculous rents) I will be back again. I ordered a drink that had konbucha in it, which took the girl a few seconds to make, during which she used health-Aid kombucha- NOT the much higher priced kombucha they sell off the shelf. $10 for a $3 bottle of brooch poured into a plastic cup with a sprinkle of adaptogens??? Dang. Then I start browsing, I've read most of these books and have all the voodoo shit already so I get excited. The CBD oil is soooo overpriced. $190 for 750mg is stupid. Much cheaper in Cali AND RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET and the vape shop- 1000 mg for $130. Limp or hobble your way in my case quickly on down to Alchemist Kitchen. I didn't believe in any magical plant salves besides aloe vera. I didn't know much about them. Tinctures meh, seem hit or miss, teas are always soothing to the spirit. Prefacing for kicks that I don't smoke, chew, vape, ingest cannabis. This may explain quite a bit but I don't. THIS SALVE recommended by my chiro is miraculous. The price point is high as salves go but it's worth it. I'm going back for more because I feel that once "the man" discovers it. The store, the supply or the recipe will change. I've had a little neck disc pain for about a year. Not a fan of ibuprofen and the dangers to my insides I prefer massage, yoga, acupuncture. I headed to the LES and the jar I intended to purchase was sold out (lemongrass). I purchased this brand which smells faintly of lavender and smoky weed. Being a chicken (yes) I'm scared to ride the subway after putting it on 'because of police dogs/inherent bias'. Withstanding that it's worth the risk. It's legal, it won't get you high and I can't stress this point enough. It seems to work within 3 minutes! Its not a placebo, my 3 colleagues and I did an unscientific study and all found the same results. Try it. It truly helps quiet rather sharp pain. Feel better. Fun facts: There's a hand written made on date on the jar. It was made 3 days before I purchased. I don't know if it best keeps at room temp or expires. I can't say much about the cafe, I didn't eat there. The counter person was pleasant and told me all about the menu items though. The shop portion of the place certainly isn't like the health aid shops of yore, no one offered to assist me or anyone else nearby. They didn't ask about ailments or offer suggestions. Edit: As I was granted a full refund in a timely manner I am changing my review to be positive. I bought some stuff from the online store next day delivery. After several days of waiting with no update I sent an email asking for tracking information. No response. A few days later I send a follow up email. They respond telling me they are waiting for the product to be delivered from the distributor. A week later I email asking for an update. No response. I call the store in Manhattan. They tell me the online shop is separate from the store and that everything is handled through that email. Fucking great. I buy the product from the distributor and it ships to me the next day. I email to demand a refund at this point. No response. Instead I get an automated message - your package has shipped. I don't want it, anymore. Doesn't feel like a coincidence. Meanwhile I have a fine relationship with the distributor who shipped the product much faster than Alchemist's Kitchen lead me to believe. read more

I went in there yesterday after having a migraine for 10 days straight and asked for help because I was in so much pain I couldn't function anymore. The ladies in there helped me find something that would help and talked to me for awhile about different ways to prevent a migraine like this before it happens. As someone who has been suffering from migraines for a decade now I kind of lost hope in finding something.
