I found it interesting that there was such a big gap between the Yelp and Google reviews. The four star average lined up more with our experience. I had the frozen huckleberry lemonade adult drink special which was very tasty, although a bit challenging to drink for a bit (it was too frozen). My son got the chicken nuggies with fries. It came out hot and fries were crispy. Actually everything came out super fast as they had just opened and maybe they weren't too busy. I ordered the pretzel sticks with queso. Similar to my brother who got the nachos, there were diminishing returns in that it was better while it was warm and while the texture of the cheese was better. The pretzels were very salty. My sister-in-law enjoyed her chicken sandwich. The clam chowder and the steamed clams were fantastic. I'd highly recommend the soup and the shrimp dish that my wife had also wasn't bad. The cold lobster roll for $35 was not worth it in my opinion as it was more of a lobster salad. The view is fantastic here and the vibes are pretty good so overall a worthwhile stop if you are in the lake George region. But it is important to keep in mind that this on the nicer side and prices are correspondingly higher. read more

We ordered the Clam Chowder, Blackened Mahi Mahi, and the Seafood Scampi. The clam chowder and mahi mahi were decent--not amazing, but not bad either. The seafood scampi, however, was very bland and lacked the flavor I expected, especially for the price. One of the main reasons we chose this restaurant was to enjoy the view of the lake. Before being seated, we were told we would have a table right by the water. That didn't happen. Later, we noticed a lakeside table open up and asked if we could move, but was denied. The service also left a lot to be desired. Our waitress checked on us only once shortly after the food arrived. After that she essentially disappeared until it was time to hand the bill. Meanwhile, we watched her regularly check in on other tables. Both of our water glasses sat empty for quite a while, and no one came by to offer refills or see how everything was. Came back to the Algonquin. Couldn't dine inside but ordered food for take out. Tried the fish point and then shrimp tacos. Fish point was a bit disappointing. It wasn't bad, but it didn't have much flavor. I think we were also missing tartar sauce, which could have helped. But the fish should've been a standout on its own. Forgot to take a picture, but saw that other reviewers had similar experiences with this dish. Shrimp tacos were a lot better. I would've liked more char on the shrimp, but I liked the cabbage and slaw and the sides of the chipotle crema and tbe guacamole. Beautiful view of the lake from this restaurant. We came here for a late lunch on a weekend and were seated right away near the window. The place seems a little dated inside with the plastic tablecloths and our table was a bit wobbly. It was dark inside too. Service was good and our waitress was very attentive. We come to this restaurant several times each summer, usually by boat (though it's just as easy to get to by car). Even though it's always busy in the summer months, we've never waited more than about 20 minutes for a table even with a group of 6-12 people. The service can be hit or miss. We've had some excellent servers, but this last visit was disappointing. Our server took our order, dropped off the food, and we didn't see her again until it was time for the check. For me, that's unacceptable; servers should always check in at least once after meals are served. The food itself is good. A lot of our group has their "go-to" dishes, and mine is the steakhouse burger on a GF bun. I really appreciate that they offer gluten-free options and let you swap fries for whatever potato they're serving (baked, mashed, etc.). My mother-in-law loved the shrimp tacos, and the Hawaiian shrimp bowl is another favorite, but definitely ask for light sauce, otherwise it's too heavy. The dock staff are always great - super helpful getting boats in and out, and we really appreciate them. We keep coming back for the ease of docking, the views, the atmosphere, and a solid dinner with drinks. Honestly, it beats a lot of the other spots on the lake. read more

Hosted a rehearsal dinner in May. This venue was perfect. Wonderful views of lake George in a room truly built to host. The service was spectacular. The owner's willingness to accommodate requests while trusting his event planner's ability was phenomenal. The event planner"s attention to details is rivaled by none. The bartender and servers could not have been more helpful and professional. The food was done to perfection. Prime rib and horseradish encrusted salmon were among the favorites. I believe the room only holds about sixty people. We have forty and plenty of room to walk around visiting the guests while enjoying the beautiful lake view. The Weather dictated our meeting spot and when we pulled into the venue during a downpour, a restaurant staffer came out to the car with an umbrella to escort me in, nice n dry. Amazing service and courtesy. The bar tender Wolfgang was a lovely fellow to chat up, a local to the area but only Two days in at this venue. He also does white water rafting and offers his Guide services during the season. His service was lovely and attentive. 5 star service indeed. The reason for the loss of a star was re: the one food item we had - the hummus platter. The menu DID mention pickled vegetables with the dish, with a LOT of hummus, four mini pitas. The ONLY FRESH vegetable were a few sticks of cucumber, the rest were olives, pickled carrots and beans. I Felt like I might blow up like a tick from all the salt. Perhaps a marketing strategy to "drink more beer"? hmmm??? Either way, that was the only menu item we had so can't make a fair comment. Either way, from the view, the service and the company... it was pretty amazing. A really great lunch! I'm not sure why this place has such poor ratings on Yelp and Google. I had the Fish Point which was an excellent buttered filet of sole. Very mild, pleasant taste that precludes the use of tartar sauce. The calamari was a large portion with wonderful jalapeño jelly. (It wasn't spicy.) There are SO many great views of the lake. The Gonq is THE place to be in the Summer - the most beautiful views of the lake, whether you're inside or out, great service, especially since it was packed on a Friday night, and quite decent food and beverages. We had a large party of 16, and they were able to give us a reservation inside without a deposit or anything - quite nice. No reservations to sit outside, and when we left around 8, people were still lined up. This place is great for a family - there are lots of menu items to choose, from burgers to seafood pasta to a fancier surf and turf special. Fresh bread is served with the meal. I started with their smoky spicy margarita, and it was alright - seemed a little heavy on the mixer and light on the tequila if I'm honest. My next drink was a dirty martini, which I recommend. It was just right. For food, we ordered the chef's wings, which have a spicy and hot sauce - they were decent, but not the best in the area. I also had the New England clam chowder, which was honestly kind of disappointing, as I got a lump of flour roux in my bowl, and not as many clams as I'd like. Still, pretty tasty, and came out hot. Hubby had the surf and turf special - NY strip and a lobster tail with a baked potato and veggies - very good. Even reheated, the steak was cooked nicely and tender. Veggies were cooked and flavored nicely. Sweet, tender lobster tail and butter. I had the short rib Marsala, and I highly recommend that. It's slow cooked and tender, served with their fried gnocchi (which I've never seen anywhere else) and savory Marsala sauce and mushrooms. Delicious and a large portion. The main reason to come here is they have wonderful outdoor seat on a large dock overlooking Lake George. Not surprisingly, the food is middling at best. Nothing was bad, but nothing was good either. We ate dinner here and had lunch three times during our week long boat rental. One order took well over an hour and was wrong. The manager had an attitude about it and didn't care to make it right. They have a monopoly on food on the water in this part of the lake so they don't care if their customer service is poor even for people who spent nearly $1000 at their restaurant over the course of a week. My son and I went to use the bathroom and it was somewhere between frat house and pirate ship chic. It was horrendous. If you feel a two coming thru...DON'T do it. Now, as for the service and food...I was surprised. It was all very good. Even the aggressive yellow jackets thought so. The brie and the asiago gnocchi appetizers were delicious. The main lunch burgers and sandwiches were very good also. My wife wasn't crazy about her Hawaiian shrimp bowl but she finished it. We came as a party of eleven including six adults and five kids under six years of age. Keep that in mind because the meal we had went much better than expected. While the adults sat at one table and kids right next door, where we could keep an eye on them, we received very patient and kind service and our hats come off to our servers who came frequently to clear a plate or replace a drink. Every thing we ordered came out well timed and hot or cold when required. We took a break for a moment from our meal to stroll to the dock to get a group photo on the dock and the staff was patient enough to take several pictures. Seating is varied- indoor, outdoor or bar-side, so choose the seating right for you depending on the weather. This place was recommended to us before visiting the Lake George area. Luckily, it was open one last weekend, on my birthday! We came for dinner. It's very rustic and on the marina. The place is lively and friendly, with a beautiful view. We were seated promptly by a window. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered seasonal cockdales that were both made with apple cider and both delicious. We ordered the nachos, made with homemade chips and queso. They were delicious. The salsa was a bit spicy, but the chips and queso and guacamole were so good. I ordered filet mignon. When served, it was overcooked and dry. It's was warm, not hot. It also tasted like it was cooked with a burger. The Bernaise sauce was yummy. The potatoes we ok, but luke warm. My veggies were cold. My husband's fish came to the table without his fries. The waitress commented that she didn't want to have the food get cold waiting for crispy fries. I assume my dish had already been sitting. His fish was really good. He ate every bit. The fries showed up a while later in a huge cone. He couldn't eat too many at that point. I thought they were good, but he didn't like the coating on them. We were too stuffed to order dessert. This is a place recommended by a lot of locals. It's fairly large and loud. It feels like a place everyone goes to. Nice views of the lake. We just went and got take out as it was literally next door to where we were staying. We both ordered grilled fish tacos and some potstickers. Service was fast...we were able to pick out food up quickly. It's tough to discuss the food, as it was picked up and obviously not as fresh as it would be if it were served to us there. The potstickers no longer had a crunch for example...not their fault, just a product of takeout. But they really weren't very good. The Fish tacos, unfortunately, suffered from being put into a container in which they sort of fell all over the place creating a bit of a mess we had to reassemble. We had asked for one order with the crema on the side...but both came with the cream mixed in. Not a good sign. The tortillas were cold...again not the restaurants fault, so we did reheat those and reassembled the tacos. The good news is that they tacos were pretty tasty, especially the slaw. The crema was nice, but there was way too much of it. I would recommend eating AT the restaurant to get the view and the lively atmosphere, as well as having the food the way it was meant to be presented. We wound up here after the small stakehouse near our cabin was full. That was fortunate. Our group of 5 was sat immediately. The hostess and server were very professional and offered actually helpful menu recommendations. I enjoyed a hearty power bowl salad and glass of Chardonnay. They were a little crowded and we went to go sit at the bar and just have a drink and perhaps an appetizer the service was terrible so we didn't even order an appetizer thankfully, we had each other's company and a nice man that we met at the bar as well, it took forever to get our check when we were about to leave. We had to ask the bartender three times for it. She never came back and asked us if we wanted to see a menu or have another drink so we left to go eat dinner somewhere else she also mentioned that they were out of quite a bit of drinks, beer and food because they're closing within a week if you'd like a great view this is the place for you if you like good service, go somewhere else read more

Alagonquin... more like gone like the wind. When asking for a reservation most people would expect to be able to sit at the same table. But here do not expect that to happen. When asking the older woman manager if we could slide our two tables together we were met with a one word response "NO". And when asking for an explanation or a resolution she decided to walk off. Shout out to our very nice waitress of all people at the restaurant who was very understanding of the situation. But after the night had already been ruined we decided to walk out. Hope the next visitors don't experience the same situation and also don't expect to be sat at the same table.... Update: Turns out that you are able to put two tables together. Hands down among the best restaurant I've been to when I have visited lake George!! My family and a few people came here on a Saturday night for my birthday dinner and we were seated right away. Nice romantic/ low key atmosphere restaurant that we all enjoyed. The menu had a large amount of options and they were able to customize a dish for me. I ordered a seafood pasta and I asked for the seafood cream sauce i saw on the menu for a different dish instead of the lemon garlic sauce and the server (who was extremely nice) asked the kitchen and the response was "for the birthday girl- anything" they really made our visit special. I started off with a jetliner cocktail which was phenomenal and like mentioned ordered the seafood pasta which was out of this world. Loaded with fish, snow crab legs, shrimp and more. Just fantastic. Everyone else loved their dinner as well. You could tell everything was as fresh as it gets even down to the piping hot rolls we got on the table.
