As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile by the owner / staff. The interior is spacious with wooden finish and Maritimes paintings & decor, giving a nice rustic, charming, and small fishing town feel while dining. Menu selection is quite extensive, offering everything from the classic lobster boil, lobster roll, fish, scallops, and clam chowder, to massive seafood platter, burgers, and a few vegetarian options. Most main dishes come with side options such as baked potato, mashed potato, fries, rice, vegetables, salad, and soups. They have specials of the day. When we were there, the specials included lobster-stuffed mushroom caps, fiddlehead soup (unique!), and different lobster and clam combos. I had the Scallop Platter (I chose the pan-seared kind, instead of battered and fried), which was balanced and satisfying with all the fixings - came with a choice of carbs and side vegetables. You can customize it, such as replacing the carb with garden salad, with or adding extra anything (I opted for extra vegetables). The seafood and vegs were both fresh, tasted delicious, and portion size was generous (especially with the scallops, and chunks of lobster in the lobster roll). Came here after one of my hikes near fundy and wanted a good fish and chips. Prices were quite reasonable for 2 pieces, could I have finished 2? Maybe LOL it was a generous size too. Service was amazing and I really enjoyed my dinner there. Fish wasn't too greasy but at the same time it was so crispy. Home fries are just as good too. Beautiful town, beautiful boathouse restaurant and beautiful people. I had the breaded chicken burgers with coleslaw. The chicken was so fresh and piping hot! The bun was so soft and sweet too. They server beers too. I got the moose head draft. They have a very friendly ambience. The owners put an old boat on the ceiling. This is a nice, spacious restaurant in the heart of Alma! We stopped here for a quick lunch during our break between high and low tide at the Hopewell Rocks. Since it's a fairly touristy destination, prices were a little higher but still reasonable. My dad ordered the fried clams, which I found to be a bit over breaded. Nothing very special, in my opinion. The portion size was also smaller than expected. My sister ordered her all-time favourite - steamed mussels. I'm not even kidding, this must have been her third or fourth time ordering this dish in the past week! It was okay, but nothing very different nor more delicious than the past options. My mom got the chicken burger, which was decent. Finally, I ordered their famous seafood chowder. It was super creamy, and had a good flavour; however, most of the taste came from the fish. Most of the seafood, actually, was fish and shrimp. There were no scallops nor clams. The chowder was good, but I found it a little heavy and overbearing... I eat out daily. Deliciously tasteful especially when you are in a fishing / lobster community. So Charlene's (in Bayside NS) makes the best seafood chowder ever, yet this place is a sweet second - I like my seafood chowder not too thick. Lobster roll had lots & lots of lobster. The seafood platter was super, so appreciate when you have a choice to pan-sear your shrimp & huge scallop. Also how often do you get daily fresh cut french fries. Great seafood meal. read more

Had lunch here. Ordered steak meal and was told it was sold out already. Second choice: pork sandwich was supposed to be on pretzel bun but wasn't. For pulled pork it was bland and dry. Waitress acted poorly surprised when another person in party ordered seafood bucket due the to size of it. Had to justify to her that we would all share. Seafood was good. Linguini was amazing. We had the mussels, seafood chowder, fish cakes, lobster stuffed mushroom caps, etc. The fish cakes were surprisingly tender inside, but I'm guessing that's because there was more potato than fish inside. The mushroom caps came in an escargot baking dish and were loaded with cheese. These were the highlight of my meal. They were also served with toast points. The seafood chowder was supposed to be served with a lobster crostini. It looked just like my toast points, and I didn't see any lobster anywhere. The mussel option we had was one steamed in lobster broth and served with lobster butter on the side. I couldn't much taste the lobster in the butter either, but still good. Oh. Quirk of the meal. The menu said crumbled nachos would top our mussels. They were Doritos. Um...okay. That certainly made the mussels less upscale. The coolest thing about this place is that they have hummingbird feeders on many of their windows, and we got to see hummingbirds actually come and go. The kid menu has the usual expected couple of bland choices, chicken strips and fries for all! Thumbs down that it had no drink, fruit, veg, or anything remotely close as a healthy item with that. Just fried strips and fries, both of which were fairly generic. I had the 1 piece beer battered fish and chips with slaw. Fish was great, slaw was great, tartar sauce which I usually skip was fantastic too. The fries all around were "meh". For a place that is obviously deep fryer centric I think that's something they could improve on, I wasn't a fan. Service was small town polite although we did stand in entry for a while before anyone walking by acknowledged us. We weren't in a rush but with kids I'm not interest in slow food. For everything coming out of the deep fryer I would deem that it was pretty slow and pushed the boundaries of how long young ones are willing to see around hungry. I would go here again. read more

We stopped by The Alma Boathouse which is along the Bay of Fundy we had the chowder and the lobster roll plater. The chowder was absolutely delicious, lots of seafood and so flavourful. The lobster roll was recommended by another customer so we had one of those and the taste was fantastic. That didn't use a lot of mayo which brought out the lobster flavour. The service was poor because they had only 2 girls hosting, taking orders, serving, and bussing. A 3rd girl came in near the end of our meal but it didn't seem to help much. They need more helpers so then the waitresses could focus on the customer more. We had to wave her down if we needed anything. The food was good. My brother got pancakes and they tasted homemade and were served with real maple syrup (very appreciated coming from the US were it's always the aunt Jemima's syrup). After we placed our order we saw plate after plate of fish and chips ("the boathouse" on the menu) coming to table after table. We ate at the Boathouse during a stay in the Fundy National Park. To look at this restaurant from the outside (and inside) you would expect dinner from a can. Oh my, am I glad we were wrong. We ordered the scallop appetizer with cream sauce - WOW. The smell & look of this dish was amazing. The scallops were done to perfection. My husband and I each ordered the special that evening - linguine with homemade Italian sausage meatballs. I know I know, why not order seafood? When we placed our order, we were put off by the generic-looking menu & thought the pasta would be safe. The size of our entree was more than generous, and the homemade spaghetti sauce was amazing. The sausage meatballs were great - not greasy at all, and were actually very light. I wish someone would throw some money into updating this restaurant from the outside so travelers would know how great the food is. Everything was obviously homemade and made WELL. My wife and I decided to try this place after being rudely treated at the hotel restaurant across the street. We are glad we did and ended up eating here two nights in a row. First night we had the steamed mussels which were not over-cooked and were large and plump. We were told that it was a pound of mussels but it seemed like much more compared to other places. We also split two large fish cakes which were delicately flavored and moist. The second night we split a large salad, a bowl of chowder, and a fried clam platter.
