Well having not visited during the period of the lock down, I was surprised at the removal of the small seating area next to the actual shop. Now some swanky tapas bar that push pizza.you can still get fish and chips from the shop next door but the way it's served is a little demeaning. Maybe the world has changed in the way the good old British public receives its fish and chips by the seaside. Deconstructed with wraps replacing bread and butter. It was as tasty as normal but I'm afraid it will be take away for me from now on. read more
See, I hate to argue with Whitby fish and chips- but these are amazing. Being tempted in by a daft name paid off. They also make my rare and guilty pleasure- spam fritters- which you have to wait a few minutes for (then a few minutes to cool down, because it's hotter than the surface of the sun) and they are most definitely entirely bad for you- but meh. I was a student when I first came here- so one thing that was particularly good were the "nosh boxes" a something (fishcake/sausage/etcetc), chips, and a "splash", peas, gravy, curry etc etc for darn cheap. The staff are lovely, they do a range of stuff, I never saw the place dirty, and importantly, they do scraps. read more
With it now supposed to be summer, we decided it was about time for a little walk along the beach and some chips to round it off. Seaton Carew front is littered with chip shops but The Almighty Cod was the only one with any customers and in fact had a queue. The cafe attached to chip shop had no seats available at all. We took this a good sign and it definitely paid off. Although there was a little bit of wait, we got served relatively quickly. The chips were delicious, definitely fresh and not at all greasy. You got a lot for your money and we couldn't finish them all (so it's a good tip to share if you're not that hungry). Would definitely recommend here if you're around Seaton Carew! read more

went today and the fish I got was half the size of my last visit + the fish was almost grey in colour. Some cost cutting gone on I think and we won't be back. Portion size of chips also seems reduced and my wife's Spam fritter had been cooked to oblivion must have been done ages. read more
