It is a delightful little cafe with a mix of traditional British and cafe dishes as well as a wide variety of cakes, tarts, and other sweets. I had the steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. My wife went for the leek and potato soup and a salad, my son for the sausage, gravy & chips, and my daughter for the corned beef pie - and there were no complaints and little conversation until plates began to empty. Sadly, we had no room left for dessert and our plan to come back for afters came to naught. The service was sweet and attentive and as I said the atmosphere is cosy, quaint, and (it must be admitted) a little bit homely. Come for lunch or come for an afternoon tea and cake but do come.

Head upstairs for a Sunday carvery, where the food is plentiful, if predictable. Reasonable price, but then, with the kind of hangovers I suffer from, they could charge me the price of a small family car and I'd be fine with that. Beware of carrot chunks in the cauliflower cheese.

The coffee is locally ground and as good as any I've had. The staff are very friendly and there are plenty of books and some toys to keep the young ones entertained. Wine by the bottle is quite reasonable as well. I noticed that they have a pretty large beer garden outside so I can't wait for summertime to try that out. The breading was perfectly crisp and I loved the homemade tartar sauce it came with. The chips were decent, the tomato sauce on the table must have been homemade or an off-brand because it was super runny and much too sweet. We stayed and ate our food in the restaurant but they are super popular for takeaway and whip up the food incredibly fast so worth a go if you're in need of a quick bite!

The Yorkshire puddings were really fantastic - if such a simple thing can be "fantastic" but I think it can! The veggies were fine, all very simply prepared. I was quite jealous of my dad's plate! We decided not to get dessert or any drinks, so can't comment there. All-in-all, most people enjoyed their meal very much. I think it's a bit pricey for the quality - though it was good, when you're paying that much you want to be blown away, don't you? But it would be lovely for a special occasion in the evening when you can truly get the effect from all the lights.
