I discovered this wee gem, not long being open whilst passing through portobello…read more What drew me in was the newly painted exterior with the nicely displayed products in the window, so in l went. On entering l was greeted by one if the owners who said "hello and how are you today " and that alone is something rare these days, never met such polite staff and helpful in every way. The first thing l noticed when l walked in was how well stocked the shop was, everything was in its place, on the shelves where stocked with locally sourced in Edinburgh or Scotland, from biscuits to locally made jam. There where in house made pizza slices to go as well as coleslaw, and cheesecake. The Mouse hole deli stock a variety of scottish cheeses with a selection of cold cut meats, with the usual deli items such as the salads, fresh eggs available and an assortment of baked breads. The prices here are pretty good considering you are supporting locally sourced goods that are made nearby. I do see myself coming back? Most definitely. Service 5* Atmosphere 5* Value 5*

Fantastic food, excellent service…read more Don't miss this hidden treasure. Their selection of cheeses is mouth-watering, and the owner will make you any sandwich you want without comment. One wall is completely taken up with shelves of sauces, treats, and other little prepared nibbles to take away. Very affordable and not far from the water. Owner was quite friendly and welcoming - I wish I lived in this neighborhood so I could be a regular!

I enjoyed my meal: 3 salad options plus a protein of beetroot and black bean balls. The mixed green…read moresalad could use some dressing but I was still okay with it knowing that I was eating fresh, organic, 'naked' food. The servers were very nice and the place has a constant flow of customers. Lovely to see a place with this ethos thriving in Newcastle.

The Heaton food scene has definitely come on in leaps and bounds since I lived there as a student…read moresome 10 years ago, so it was nice to finally get back and try one of the places on offer. Incidentally, the 'Naked' part of their name relates to the food ethos of serving up clean, organic, health-concious food, and not the dress code... A nice setting but do have to agree with the previous review, they would benefit from having larger premises as we were fortunate to get the last remaining table for brunch - I guess this indicates the place is popular - but it did feel slightly cramped. The table next to ours was tucked into a window space next to the door which meant people had to squeeze past my chair to get in/out and also for the waitress to bring their order. Not a major problem, but still slightly distracting when you're trying to eat. Very pleasant service from the people behind the counter, the breakfast menu was particularly tempting... but we arrived just after 11:30am when they switch to the day menu! So an all-day breakfast offering wouldn't go amiss in my gluttonous opinion. One other customer was tucking into a couple of pancakes, they did look pretty darn amazing, so next time I manage to go back I think I know what I'll be after first. Our food was fresh and rather good. I went for the beef meatballs with corgetti (courgette made into spaghetti, a new one for me!) and my friend had the sweet potato frittata. Both came promptly, but for the price I would've liked a little bit more 'stuff'; my friend's frittata came with a couple of asparagus spears and a bit of salad, the plate looked a little sparse. Having said that, we both cleared up our food with no complaints. Will be back at some point, although I do want to try out other brunch places on offer in Heaton too - but the Naked Deli has set the bar pretty high.
