Hidden away in a tiny little alley off the main drag in Richmond, we couldn't have been happier to find this incredible jewel. I hate when people call things a hidden gem (it's so overused), but this is the true definition of that.
This Pub has been there for 400 years. It seemed like a completely local and older crowd inside that was having the time of their lives. It was an open mic night and each of the performers got up and did two or three songs.
The food was unbelievable. I couldn't have been more surprised. The star of the show was the chicken, ham and pea pie. The puff pastry was crispy and flaky and stuffed with the most decadent savory filling. It came on top of a bed of buttery whipped potatoes and was served with a jus sauce. OMG.
The nachos were really good. The tortilla chips had a seasoned dusting on them, that gave it a nice kick.
We also had a burger that was outstanding as well as a Brazilian fish and shrimp stew. Did not get photos of those because once the music started the lights went down and I couldn't get a decent shot.
Everybody in the pub was so friendly and engaging. One of the duos of performers was a French man and a French Canadian man. The French Canadian man, Phillipe, gave me a CD of his original guitar compositions and signed and dated it. An awesome keepsake of an awesome night. read more
