Jo's Organic Stores is a well established mini organic supermarket that receives a twice weekly delivery of organic fruit, vegetables and meat. This means that the fresh produce is always in excellent condition. They also stock a broad selection of dry goods as well as cleaning agents and equipment. On top of all of this they also stock a great selection of Fair Trade products. Without dispute this is a fantastic shop. They are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they champion small producers, ethical producers and the organic food cause... what more could you want!?!

It's very handy because they deliver your box…read moreonce a week or once a fortnight if you choose and they leave it by your door so you don't need to be in - or up as they sometimes deliver really early in the morning! The fruit and veg is always fresh and long lasting. You get a little leaflet every week telling you where your food has come from, what's happening on the farm and gives you recipe ideas for what you have that week. The fruit and veg changes weekly and is always seasonal. If you don't something you can ask for it not to be included and they will replace it with something else. You can also find out what you are going to get a week in advance by looking on the website. If you want you can buy extras and special things including fairtrade chocolate and jams to packs of meat. And you get a very happy chappy and his little dog delivering it. (well I did)

All is not lost, however, as a little shop in Pontypridd carry a good stock of most things the amateur beer and wine maker requires from kits to fermenting vessels and most of the other things required for the hobby. In addition to wine making they carry many other goods for example dried fruits a wide selection of wild nuts ,organic flour, and a large selection of loose herbs and spices, plus a selection of ethnic foods and products. The shop is run by two gentlemen Eric and Peter who are always ready for a chat and advice, which makes a complete change from the anonymiity of the supermarket. Its an old fashioned shop with a personal service and well worth a visit.

I've been attending the market for over three years now, and I rarely miss a month. The stalls always draw me back when I'm needing a healthy variation to my diet, and the price range is perfect value for money. Specifically regarding the Beans & Leaves stall, which sells a wide range of both coffee beans and loose teas. Most of these infusions rarely reach the £4 mark for 100g, which results in more than enough tea for two for several months! The tea stall holder himself is a bubbly yam yam who'll immediately strike up a conversation. It's just a shame that his stall is on the windiest part of Moseley, meaning that a lot of his tea ends up at the other side of the market! But of course, on first visit, you'll want to sample everything. Whether this be jam, ostrich burgers, bakery, alcohol or cheese (in fact, I highly recommend the Warwickshire Truckle), there's literally something for everyone. I've also tried a range of unlikely produces which sometimes appear at the market, such as a piece of fruit called a quince, and a green tea cake, both equally as delicious as the other. As a worthy winner of "best farmers market in the UK 2012", Moseley Farmers Market is a treasury to Birmingham and brings a tasteful locality to the streets of Moseley.

And I wasn't disappointed. The market is exactly what you would want a medium to large sized market to be. Offering a huge range of locally sourced goods sold to you by the actual producers of the items, you can get most things you would need to stock up the fridge, freezer and cupboards (with a good amount of locally made crafty things too). It's in a pretty setting and has a lovely community feel to it. We managed to find parking in the small shopping area just up from St Mary's Row at around 9:15am, but parking could be a bit of a nightmare if you were getting here later. The square area offered braces of pheasants for £6, cheese, wine, condiments and artisan food products and the High Street area (which we hadn't realised was there until we were leaving - D'oh) offers more of a crafty element. We had a nice little poke around the stalls and chatted to many of the business owners about their products and they were more than happy to talk to us and advise where the items are made and the ingrediants that go into them. We got some lovely locally made fizzy red wine (Did you know there are vineyards in the Midlands?) for £10 a bottle, some hot sauce from Pip's and was very tempted by cakes and unusual scotch eggs... We are definitely planning to go back. If you haven't been, you must go. Get there early if you're planning to drive but the buses down to Moseley drop you off right in the thick of the action, do that might be the best idea.

Although Box Tree's is only contained within a tiny room, this Farm shop packs a great surprise full of eagerly tempting treats. I was especially taken by the store's wide selection of fruit cakes, and couldn't resist purchasing a Mead fruit cake (which is something that I'd never tried before). I'm very glad I bought it, because the flavour was absolutely delicious. There's also a selection cherry cakes and other mouthwatering handmade desserts sold inside, which all equally looked amazing. For an alternative, fresh answer to the supermarket, Box Tree's is definitely the place to stop by. Eggs, jam, spreads, fruit, you name it, they've got it. I also highly recommend the ginger spread they sell here for £2.30, which adds great taste to any toasted breakfast. The only issue I had in the shop was getting someone to serve me. The owner also works in the cafe behind, and jumps from one shop to here when a customer rings the bell. I rang the bell, but unfortunately nobody came for about 10 minutes.
