5 BIG STARS!!! The ARTISAN Cafe in Blackwood S.A. A little Gem hidden away in Blackwood down an alley next to the Bendigo bank, which then leads into the Foodland shopping centre. So beautiful and tranquil any time of the day and year. Dogs are welcomed & they provide water bowls. Lovely cosy blankets are provided for winter to keep you warm if you chose to sit under the glorious vine covered outside areas. An assortment of beautiful birds are always chirping around to make you feel calm & relaxed. The food is fantastic with lots of variety, GF & Vegan options also. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. What I particularly love about the ARTISAN is that I can get a fantastic meal any time of the day. They also do tapas on Friday night's and often have musicians, poetry readers & other unusual entertainment. Beautiful art collections on the walls are displayed that have been created by local artists. The ARTISAN promotes locals in every way and are the creators of the TOTALLY LOCALLY group. They have an extensive range of cooked breakfasts that last all day and a good variety of soups, meals, snacks, desserts all day long. My meal times are usually very irregular due to health issues, so it's incredibly convenient for me to be able to grab meals all day & after doctor appts which is usually a very late lunch that ends up also being my dinner. Neither hubby or myself eat large amounts, so it's handy to always be able to take left overs in a doggy bag without being made to feel guilty! All their food is ethically sourced, local where possible & all their cakes, jams, spreads & icecreams are all made there. They also compost everything. So great to have a place like this in Blackwood. Owners Chef Jonathan and Wife Heather obviously go out of their way to hire the best staff, because they are truly an asset to this cafe & always make everyone feel very welcome. In case you haven't got the message by now, I'm a HUGE fan of this place.

This Artisan Licensed Cafe Restaurant, situated in Blackwood SA. named the winner 2016 of a number of prestigious Café Restaurant awards, Obviously this cafe is very popular with locals. We enjoyed two, Twice Baked Cheese Soufflés, made of Gruyere, grana gadana & organic cheddar cheese , topped with free range ham, organic cream and chives. Both plates were prepared and served to perfection, leaving us with an appreciation of there popularity. The service was excellent and friendly even though the Café was almost full. Outside there is a very tidy popular alfresco area, with a pagoda, loaded with an aged grapevine, that would give shade in the summer months, making for pleasant summer dining.

This place is A+ guaranteed anything you get on the menu will be good. They use organic ingredients and the serving sizes are just enough to get you full. Breakfast is served all day and their milkshakes are to die for. This place will always be a favourite of mine!

Good coffee, menu fresh and varied, supportive of the arts, BUT don't go there if you're worried that your children aren't well behaved. The cafe has a page of the menu devoted to explaining that you may be asked to leave if your children aren't behaved well enough to suit them.

    The way-too-cute tea cosy!

Mind you, it is pretty popular, and a little pricier than what you would expect.

As the trend for pubs which look like fancy bars and fancier restaurants continues, its nice to walk into a pub with a solid wooden bar, well worn chesterfields in the front bar and fairly simple wooden tables in the restaurant expect the traditional as well; chicken schnittys, fish and chips - the works. The Duck Inn also has a great range of beers and ciders. Adelaide Hills cider has been on tap here since you could tap their kegs and their local range is superb for a small pub. Like most pubs, the Duck Inn does have pokies, but you can't hear them in the restaurant and the noise level in the bar is minimal. I'd opt for the Duck Inn on a lazy day and to sit in the Front bar next to the fire on the big couches with some beer and chips and spend your day doing not quite a lot.

Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. A long lunch on the enclosed verandah was very nice, although…read moreperhaps I would have preferred being inside the more formal area. It was quiet for a Wednesday lunch with only a few tables. I noticed there was no salt and pepper on the table, and this was brought to us. White salt flakes in a little dish and pepper in a small grinder. Funnily enough I didn't use either on my meal. We started with a plate of dips, hommous, pumpkin and I can't remember the third, it was presented with two slices of crusty bread and little crispy biscuits. The entrees came out, and I was happy to see a beautifully presented pork belly and an artfully placed carrot. My only criticism (if you could call it that) was the crackling was completely white and it would have been nice to have some colour. I think I'm being picky. The arancini balls proved quite popular at our table. Mains were served and the lamb wasn't how I thought it would be presented as my brain was thinking lamb with the bone. Those that chose ribs received a finger bowl. The lamb was delicious, and the acidic balance was perfect. Dessert was a shared banana caramel pie (one person had to leave so we had hers), and washed it down with an affogato. We did request frangelico with our affogato and oddly they had run out, so I had mine with baileys. Tia Maria might have been the better second choice. The serving was pleasing with lots of coffee beans spread on the plate. Utopia is known for their afternoon teas of scones and jam, and as a wedding/function centre with the beautiful waterfall surrounds. The water was cascading down the hill and many joggers went passed our window after their long hike. I will most definitely be back. On a side note, an entree, main and dessert from a lovely selection is only $55 pp.
