This place offers all those little thrills you can get from a new find. Delicious food? Check. Inclusive menu with a vegan brekky, vego brekky and the amazing option of the Artisan Brekky (which gives you a little bit of four different breakfast dishes). Check. Cute and whimsical tea cozies (we got a Dalek from Doctor Who!). Check! Now I haven't been to lunch at this place, but the menu for that looks amazing too! Lots of gluten free and lactose free options on both menus AND brekky and lunch are both served all day! Score! Drawbacks for this place are the average and sometimes haphazard service, and this place can get busy! However you can make bookings so that settles the latter. As for the former, well, the menu is just so good it makes up for it (mostly). Plus a Dalek tea cosy never hurts! read more

Worth the hekkas drive through the winding hills, we sat outside underneath the vines in 40 degree heat to enjoy ourselves with some iced lattes and some lunch To my delight the specials board had a to die for roast salad that tickled my fancy, a huge serve with a punch if flavor did the job for me. My partner got the roo sliders with some wedges that were tiny but also super filling and flavorsome. 5 BIG STARS!!! The ARTISAN Cafe in Blackwood S.A. A little Gem hidden away in Blackwood down an alley next to the Bendigo bank, which then leads into the Foodland shopping centre. So beautiful and tranquil any time of the day and year. Dogs are welcomed & they provide water bowls. Lovely cosy blankets are provided for winter to keep you warm if you chose to sit under the glorious vine covered outside areas. An assortment of beautiful birds are always chirping around to make you feel calm & relaxed. The food is fantastic with lots of variety, GF & Vegan options also. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. What I particularly love about the ARTISAN is that I can get a fantastic meal any time of the day. They also do tapas on Friday night's and often have musicians, poetry readers & other unusual entertainment. Beautiful art collections on the walls are displayed that have been created by local artists. The ARTISAN promotes locals in every way and are the creators of the TOTALLY LOCALLY group. They have an extensive range of cooked breakfasts that last all day and a good variety of soups, meals, snacks, desserts all day long. My meal times are usually very irregular due to health issues, so it's incredibly convenient for me to be able to grab meals all day & after doctor appts which is usually a very late lunch that ends up also being my dinner. Neither hubby or myself eat large amounts, so it's handy to always be able to take left overs in a doggy bag without being made to feel guilty! All their food is ethically sourced, local where possible & all their cakes, jams, spreads & icecreams are all made there. They also compost everything. So great to have a place like this in Blackwood. Owners Chef Jonathan and Wife Heather obviously go out of their way to hire the best staff, because they are truly an asset to this cafe & always make everyone feel very welcome. One of the most sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly cafe in the southern suburbs. If you care about your health and crave for fresh produce grown in sustainable farms, come here! They don't do dinners. Only breakfast, lunch and tapas on Friday and Saturday night. Lovingly selected and beautifully arranged tapas on large plates boasting fresh Turkish bread, small bowls of dips and vege platter bursting with fresh flavour at every bite you take. Check out their suppliers list on their menu-from the butcher, cereals, beverages to wine, they all come from organic and sustainable farms. My first visit to Artisan today for lunch. First impression, quite busy for a Tuesday lunch in the burbs, quaint space with chunky wooden tables and chairs. And yes, those tea cosies on tables here and there! Cute. The food? I had the veggie stack and although the flavor was good the burger (read flat falafel) just crumbled on attempted cutting, obviously needing something to hold it together (egg maybe, I didn't notice if this was a vegan meal so that could be the reason). The relish served with it had great flavor and the accompanying salad fresh and appetizing. Doc had the artisan toasted bread with a topping of cherry toms, pesto , red onion and goats cheese which he pronounced really good. All washed down with Artisan coffee and served by friendly efficient staff. On the whole a reasonable effort but I want to go back and maybe try the tapas menu before making final judgement. read more

A breakfast favourite for my Fiancé and I - he loves the pancakes with citrus butter, while I'm more of a baked egg kinda girl. Haven't found ourselves let down yet! The raisin toast is also particularly yum as is the Artisan Croque. Coffee is always decent, service can be a bit slow - especially on a Sunday morning when it's packed (which is inevitably when we always end up there). Staff have always been friendly and welcoming. This Artisan Licensed Cafe Restaurant, situated in Blackwood SA. named the winner 2016 of a number of prestigious Café Restaurant awards, Obviously this cafe is very popular with locals. We enjoyed two, Twice Baked Cheese Soufflés, made of Gruyere, grana gadana & organic cheddar cheese , topped with free range ham, organic cream and chives. Both plates were prepared and served to perfection, leaving us with an appreciation of there popularity. The service was excellent and friendly even though the Café was almost full. Outside there is a very tidy popular alfresco area, with a pagoda, loaded with an aged grapevine, that would give shade in the summer months, making for pleasant summer dining. read more

Tucked away in the Foodland complex at Blackwood, we stumbled upon this place looking for somewhere to have lunch. Opening the menu to discover they did all-day breakfast = winning. Plenty of vegetarian/ vegan options, and they easily cater for GF as well. I had the vegetarian brekkie- homemade baked beans were awesome! The Artisan has changed names and hands over the years but being in Blackwood for so long flags that something is going well here! The Artisan is perfect for light meals and has a nice little selection for lunch. Staff are generally friendly and service is prompt. Coffee varies depending on the barista on the day, wouldn't have a long black or espresso here, but cappuccinos and lattes are nice. My personal favourite here is the gorgeously over the to tea cosy with each pot of tea. A nice touch. Breakfast menu is your standard cafe offering, but I really love the pancakes! The Outdoor seating is perfect for summer but not set up for winter so plan accordingly. read more

I think almost everything on offer is local and what i ate was tasty. Although the stewed strawberry and balsamic dressing thing was a bit weird. Maybe a step too far for me. I just wanted a bacon sandwich but this was apparently too common for them and the request was denied. Coffee was milky and was about 'coffee cake strength' if that helps you imagine. What an absolute gem in an equally beautiful suburb. When you walk into The Artisan cafe you're immediately struck by two things: the array of beautiful and constantly changing art on the wall, and the number of people happily enjoying their burgers with homemade relish, milkshakes with homemade syrup or cakes with homemade honey (I think you see where I'm going with this) everything is either homemade or grown in South Australia...and I haven't even mentioned the food yet. I ordered the Artisan beef Burger and must recommend it to any burger conniseur out there. It comes with delicious crispy potato chips that are out of the world and leaves you comfortably full and wishing you could fit in one of the selection of scrumptious cakes. The Artisan Cafe is an ethical, local little haven in the hills. It's not blessed with a great view, squished in the middle of Foodland shopping complex, but the owners have created a warm and inviting space inside with wooden tables and chairs. Tables are spaced a decent way from each other, so unlike in many cafes you can talk to your eating companion without shouting. I indulged in American style flapjacks which came with citrus butter and spiced syrup - a bargain at $8.80. The freshly squeezed OJ complemented the meal. Everything on the menu seems to have a thoughtful, creative twist (I chickened out of ordering the potato and egg omelette with harissa - maybe next time!). A decent amount of seating means that we didn't feel the need to rush our brekis, instead lingering longer to order a another latte and a pot of peppermint tea, which came in its own knitted tea cosy (too cute!). The community friendly approach continues with a vegie swap on the third Sunday of each month and poetry gatherings (also once a month). One wall features local artworks which are for sale. The relaxed vibe means you could easily come here on your own with a book to read or laptop to tap on. I'm going to make this place a more regular stop and file it under my list of "why I'm glad I live in Blackwood." But its also definitely worth travelling up the hill to visit if you happen to live down on the plains. Recommended. read more

Falling asleep on the bus and waking up in Blackwood is a frequent experience for me. Luckily this is a chance to visit Artisan's and have a big ol' Veggie Stack for lunch. Fresh food, the freshest of the fresh that is. Free range everything and food is handled with the up-most care. Friendly service with no lack of smiles all round.
