Let's start with first impressions. This place covers quite a bit of space, with tons of different seat setups throughout, from bench seating for large parties, to quaint seating in a circle, to intimate seating by the fire pit, to private seating in an outdoor lounge. This place has personality! The customer service from the chap taking our order was good and proper, unlike the bar north of here. We were happy to be given that amount of respect. They also provide donations to local charities that change with the season. Here's our order: Philly Cheese Steak. Very good. 4 out of 5. Could've been less dry overall. BBQ Burger was yummy. 4.5 out of 5. Bbq sauce was unique and smoky. Beef was cooked to a perfect medium well, but did not cover their yummy brioche bun as much. Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cole slaw on the side. 5 out of 5. The House Fried Kettle Chips are good, but we prefer their fries. They are thin sliced goodness, perfectly seasoned and very crispy. (Someone said their loaded fries are to die for.) Lastly, they are a bar as well, but gave off no weird sentiment when we said we did not want drinks. Mad respect for that! We came for a special fund raiser bingo night. I've been wanting to play bingo here for about a year and was excited to finally make it happen with my family. Location. It's downtown so centrally located but the adjacent areas can be difficult to find parking. The idea of creating a multi use backyard space is great. I'd live to see some upgrades to the narrow patio tables and better shade covers. The umbrellas were too tall so that the sun just came under them the late afternoon and it's been. 94 degrees. Even my 8 year old grandson said why is the patio table so narrow. I would replace them all with proper sturdy wooden beer garden tables and benches. And then add more Adirondack chairs around the fire pits. Etc. for comfortable seating. However we found a square lovely covered cabana area with curtains and comfy sofas and thankfully a few throw pillows for my back. It was lively !! There are two of these. A few other nice spaces were empty all night and must be rented. We looked around and found a fire pit area on the north see but the flimsy beach folding chairs were not welcoming. Two of us have back issues and cannot sit at a backless patio table or in a flimsy beach chair and okay a couple hours of bingo. I'm aware food vendor is a different contract and not affiliated with the backyard directly. They contract out the food and drink. Vendor is Roots on railroad Carne asada tacos are tiny appetizer size for $5 each. Not very good. Dried out meat. Too small. $10 for two isn't a good deal. My daughter ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it was awful. A our meals cane with potato chips that needed salt. Mine was provided. No mayo available either. I asked for wine from the list but was told most were out of stock. I did get a can of castor white wine though and I enjoyed it in a glass with lots of ice. We really enjoyed the bingo but it's not that easy to hear and they need another speaker by those cabanas. I hope yo come back and play again sometime. I would definitely order drinks but not food. Great hospitality from the guy behind the counter and the chef who kindly delivered our meals. Nice clean patio with a few different type of areas. Cushioned Patio chairs and sofas, picnic tables, tables and chairs, umbrellas, heaters. Excellent set up. A few tables and chairs upstairs. Music at perfect volume. Was told there's live music on fridays and saturdays Found this place passing through Paso. I'll be back for the live music. My drink was a lemonade slush and ice water. This was the perfect place for a large group hang on an early summer evening. Parking was tough as they only have a tiny parking lot up front. You're on your own with street parking. There are a few spots along the street just past The Backyard. Otherwise, you may have to park a block or two away towards the other businesses in the area. Seating is plentiful and the atmosphere is really laid-back with many lounge chairs, couches, and tables. It can get hot in Paso Robles, so thank goodness for the water misters they have to keep you as cool as possible. There are also a couple of cabanas, and you can put the shades down to shield yourself from the sun. The food was ok. We had mac and cheese, sliders, fries, and pretzel bites. The mac and cheese was a bit bland, the sliders were kind of dry, but I enjoyed the fries, which were more like potato wedges, the pretzel bites were great with the cheese dipping sauce they served on the side. I don't think you go to The Backyard for food, though. You definitely go for the drinks. I only had two drinks: Rose, and the POG Kombucha. Both were good. If you don't know, POG stands for Passion Orange Guava and it's normally a juice that is on the sweet side. Not my favorite. But, in this kombucha form, at an 8% alcohol level, it was nice and refreshing and it was my go-to drink for the rest of the evening. Customer service was good. The bartenders were quick and friendly on a busy Friday evening. If I'm ever in the area again, The Backyard will probably be one of the first places I go to grab a drink. read more

The Backyard is a different kind of outdoor space, conducive to gathering with friends at picnic tables or chairs around a fire pit. Almost the vibe of a Biergarten. They have a very friendly staff and a fantastic selection of beers. The burger and pulled pork were okay but not great. I really like the creative way they used the space, privacy barriers, and shipping containers for a very functional layout. Stopped by because we wanted to snack on mac and cheese after a nice morning out brunching and shopping. Mac n cheese were medium shells with a white cheese sauce, and it was the perfect amount of gooey sauce to noodle ratio! My friend also had the walking nachos but they weren't really walking nachos since we were expecting loaded fritos but apparently it was well seasoned and yummy!! I can't give it 5 stars because we had to ask for the number for the food service so that the food runner could find us. Also the ladies bathroom was out of tp and the lock wasn't operable. Great first impression. Two large private parties were being held, so it was packed on the right and left side, leaving only the center for patrons. That's good because that's where the ordering bar and grub is! A wide-range of draft brews & ciders, they have small but mighty menu. I got the pulled pork sandwich, and my lady got the Philly Cheesesteak. She loved hers, but wow -- one of the best Pulled Pork sandwiches that I've ever had. Served with fries, both totally delicious. Live music sometimes, too. Boo-yah! Paired with the grub, a great brew and a great vibe, it's quite wonderful. One of our favorite stops while road tripping through this area. It's family-friendly with an inviting atmosphere. The pulled pork sandwich is awesome as are the street tacos. For anyone charging at the EA charging station nearby, it is a walkable distance. The backyard is good vibes and this is the total locals spot! They have a wonderful outdoor seating area with fire pits and nice lounge chairs. They also do private events, such as weddings or graduation parties in their lounge space. There are various events going on throughout the week, including trivia and bingo. They always have themed holiday parties such as Oktoberfest, where there is live music and fun activities going on. They have a permanent food truck on site, in which the food is very good. They recently just got a new chef as well. Most recently, we ordered the Philly cheese steak, pulled pork sandwich and a pretzel. The food is good, not the most amazing thing ever but solid! You will find a great selection of local beers, seltzers, and wine here, all very reasonably priced. The owners know most of the patrons here and it is a nice spot in downtown Paso Robles to hang out, relax, grab a beer enjoy times with loved ones. And, as they say, Be Kind, Unwind. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place. My wife and I have been there about 5-6 times already. They offer live music and have a great staff to serve you. Russell and his wife really know how to make you feel welcome and they really create that back yard Vibe like you would feel at a best friend's house. Wow...just wow! This backyard gem is the perfect mix of cozy vibes and seriously next-level eats. The ambience is incredible--think fun, cute, and totally Instagram-worthy. We dove into a barbecue bacon burger that was pure heaven, paired it with mac & cheese loaded with bacon (yes, please!), and somehow managed to save room for what might be the best fries of our lives. We booked the Backyard (Garage + Porches + Fire pits) for our wedding welcome dinner with family and friends. We were so impressed with the event space being fully equipped with heaters and enough seating for around 60 guests. We were initially concerned with the weather being too cold for an outdoor event space but the heaters and fire pits kept everyone warm. The owners were very accommodating and generous as they offered to cover a bartender for our space for a couple hours due to a private event they were holding in the front of the venue. All of my guests were able to order their own food & drinks from our Bartender which made it easy to accommodate the party size. I highly recommend The Backyard as a perfect spot in Paso Robles to host a large private party. We were incredibly impressed and grateful for their generous hospitality. My wife and I were passing through Paso Robles and were exploring the town when it was time for lunch. Looking through Yelp we saw several possible places, but The Backyard tickled our fancy, so we decided to give it a try. At first it looked closed, as when we approached from the street, there was a small stand-like structure with a serving window, but it was closed. Fortunately, we explored a bit and behind this structure was a large outdoor seating area consisting of picnic tables (many of them in shade), and another small structure where one places their order. There was also a covered outdoor seating area with outdoor couches and chairs. I had the "Backyard Burger" ($16) which was very good. My wife had the "Philly Cease Steak" ($16) which as better; very yummy! (she got the better item!). You place your order and pay at the counter window. Laid back & casual which was exactly the vibe we were going for, adorable, kid and dog friendly, reservable spaces, catering (delicious!), super responsive&friendly staff, flexible...they really check all the boxes. We actually enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned the day after our wedding for a send off! We enjoyed ourselves so much that we barely took any photos either time. We celebrated my husband's birthday here recently. We reserved the lawn and it was perfect! There were misters that kept us cool since it was about 95 degrees. The lawn was nice for the kids since it was gated and had some fun toys for them to play with. We all ordered food and drinks and everything was delicious. The 805 fries were tasty. There were lots of beers on tap and others in the fridge at the bar. My friend that came was impressed with their non-alcoholic options, as well! It was convenient because we could all get whatever drinks we wanted, food we wanted, and set up our own tabs (or not). Everyone was very nice and helpful.
