It is quite a big Wetherspoons with plenty of tables inside including some with nice comfy leather booths. There is also a seperate decking area outside with wooden tables, benches and heaters to enable customers to sit outside on a sunny day or to smoke. It has the usual traits of a weatherspoons with cheap drinks and a 2 for 1 on main meals. Not all of the the meals are included in the 2 for 1. There is plenty of choice and they are always trying to improve the menu by including more vegetarian dishes and low fat options. The food isnt bad for what you pay, nice for a quick bit to eat or lunch. Staff are friendly. There is limited parking at the back of the building but there is also parking on the street and a free car park down the road.

Expect to wait for a table on a Sunday as it is really very good. We recently had a family birthday meal there and they served 15 of us swiftly and without fuss. Super helpful waitress too. This is busy pub with a kids outdoor play area so expect lots of hyperactive children full of Froot Shoots racing about. Usually have a few cask ales on as well as several different draft lagers. Decent range of wines at ok prices. Not as good as the Poachers just up the bypass at Chirk for food quality, but fine for a quick meal with the family.

The boars is quite popular with the younger crowd and there is a DJ at weekends. There is also a pool table in there which proves quite popular. There is an outside area to the side of the pub with plenty of tables and benches. The decor isnt that great inside and could do with a bit of a revamp as its looking a bit tired. The staff are friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced. Only downside is there are only 2 toilets so it can be a bit of a wait if you go on a busy night.

The pub itself is ok I suppose, several small bars, good selection of beer, wines and spirits, but nothing extraordinary. However, the food was absolutely disgusting. Cynical doesn't cover the abysmal quality of the food served. Over cooked veg, swimming in liquid, a slice of grey beef, two over cooked roast potatoes, a couple of mushy new potatoes, the Yorkshire was ok... But barely enough gravy to make it palatable! The kids meal was not much better, a couple of undercooked sausages, and mushy chips... At least the beans were warm. One of the worst lunches I have had the misfortune to pay for. Take my advice and keep driving, McDonalds is only a few miles north!

I had the misfortune of attending a NYE party here 07/08 and it was dreadful. The pub for a start is quite small and as you pay for tickets to attend the party they packed way too many people in. The decor is absolutely horrible, it is so run down and in desperate need of modernisation. The bar itself isnt big enough which makes getting a drink a nightmare as everyone is crowding round trying to get served. The NYE ticket included food and they put on the worst buffet ever and by the time we got near the table the food had nearly gone, they definitely did not cater for the number of people they sold tickets to. As we were in a big group we still had fun despite the surroundings and made the best of the night . I have been back since that NYE to give it the benefit of the doubt but nothing has improved, i advise you to give it a miss, or be prepared to be disappointed.

Howevver we promptly returned the week after and immediately fell in love with the place. What an incredible experiance. First thing you notice is the size of the place. (Tiny) It genuinely feels like a hidden bar from the prohibition era with incredible decor and music that suits the Blues/Jazzy environment to perfection. Being here is like traveling back in time to the 20's when alcohol was illegal and small secret bars like these were littered across America. The theme is consistent with the menu hidden inside a book that's handed to you upon arrival. So mesmerized were we with the vibe and conversation the cocktail taste bud memories are hazy at best. (I'll leave you with a visual of the cocktails we had. One was lemon based the other strawberry based?) This is THE perfect place for those who like sophisticated conversation with your aptly aesthetic cocktails. It's not noisey, it's not busy, it's just right. Definitely worth a visit. My one criticism would be that may be the music is too loud but that's that's it. They have an extensive cocktail menu however if there's something not on the menu just asked for it and you will receive. All in all, this is one of my favourite places to go in Chester
