I'm from Denver Colorado and I'm the first to review this lovely place?
I have to say, I really felt like a local dining here. Considering the name, the interior is surprisingly modern yet cozy. It just feels good to be here. You can smell the wood burning fireplace as soon as you step out of the car, and the cool damp air of the countryside makes you feel like you're about to step into someone's home.
The interior has sleek neutral tones, a mix of wood, glass and slate and tall pillar candles through out the entry lounge area.
There's another lounge area through a doorway that looked darker and intimate, then you head back to the dining area, with rough woods combined with gleaming mirrors and steel.
Oh, the food? It was delicious! Kind of a Brassierre meets Pub menu. Two of us had braised beef that was perfectly cooked and tender. The other two had different fish dishes which they raved about. Then there was dessert, which I enjoy but never love. In this case, it was as delicious as te main course. A Toffee and Date pudding that was really a bread pudding.
All of the courses were perfectly portioned. Enough to satisfy but not overly filling.
Service was friendly, our server in the lounge was spunky and good humored.
The restaurant struck me as an ideal place for a nice dinner with friends, perhaps for a somewhat special occasion. I'm still getting a feel for values in the UK, but this seemed as though it might be a little on the high side, but certainly worth every penny. Oh, and although it was cold and rainy...I still wanted to try out the beautiful patio. Those who can be here in the summer are fortunate!
I'm 2 for 2 on my trip so far...I wonder what the weekend in London will bring! read more
