There are two bars, one of which is the sporting area and holds the telly and dart board and is kitted out in dark wood throughout. The other bar is comfier with cushioned chairs and stools, lots of beer paraphernalia on the walls, there is also a real fire which is extremely welcoming on a cold winters afternoon. In the summer you can use the beer garden at the rear which is surprisingly large given the location. It is worth noting that at lunchtime, food is served noon until two, but its best not to get there too late. The food is uber-traditional, from excellent soup and sandwiches with home-cooked ham to more substantial dishes such as lasagne, and just about everything comes with excellent chips. As mentioned above the beer is varied and is also kept exceptionally well in my opinion. There is normally a choice of around five real beers on tap, ranging from a porter to much lighter choices, plus a couple of lagers. All in all, the world would be a better place if all pubs where like the Red Lion!

The place is located near the Madingley Hall, a beautiful country location of Cambridge University. The food was absolutely delicious. The menu is focused on Italian european but also has some British dishes. Loved the coffee. Drinks and spirits looked good but didn't go for it. The staff was polite and friendly. Called them up last minute to reserve a table to which they happily obliged.

The Three Horseshoes is probably my favourite restaurant in the entire world…read more Set in the refreshringly green hamlet (or village, not really sure on the distinctions) of Madingley, it is a charmingly floral spot for a Summer's lunch and a cosy retreat from the Winter's chill. The food is innovative, interesting and always beautifully presented: having spent a lot of time in Italy, I am often dissappointed with the Italian food in England, but The Three Horseshoes always hits the right note. The seasonally changing menu is always a delight, but I particularly like their use of autumn veg, particularly butternut squash. Whatever buffalo mozzarella they use deserves a special place in heaven, and my boyfriend always manages to find room for their delicately seasoned lemon tart. Well worth a visit - if you're a student, this is definitely one to persuade your parents to take you to.

It is far too often you find a pub and they don't serve lunch but still serve beer. I was greeted by a very friendly and cute bar maid. I was checking out the beers on tap and she immediately asked me what I wanted. I was not planning on drinking but was curious about their selection. I asked what the highest percentage of beer they had on tap and she said Stella. She offered me a pint and I gladly took her up on her offer. Looked at the menu and it was four pages long. I was quite impressed about their wide selection of virtually anything you could imagine. Asian inspired dishes with a British twist. Indian curries, several different flavors of curry. A healthy menu option for meals under 600 calories. Sandwiches. Large meaty varieties, their burger was four slices of burger meat. The traditional British fair that you would have at your local carvery. My eyes were popping out of my head. Many options are two for the price of £10. I ordered the goat cheese and caramelized onion wonton. It was nicely fried with melted goat cheese and sweet caramelized onions on the inside. The starter was delicious. I figured since I am drinking beer and ordered a fried starter I will go for the bacon and chicken ceasar salad, a lighter option. It was in the two for £10 deal, although my friend opted for a duck wrap that wasn't in the deal. The salad was on the small side and unfortunately did not fill me up, it cost slightly under £8.00. My friend's duck wrap looked amazing. It had nice large pieces of duck and was a rather large wrap, she paid under £5.00 for her wrap, large drink and curly fries. I should have gotten that. They have a lovely beer garden. I look forward to going to this pub again, trying more things on their menu and enjoying a pint in their beer garden.

A few tables in the bar area and a large restaurant. Lovely friendly staff. Food was delicious. I ordered the Cider cured trout filler with samphire, new potatoes, spinach and beurre blanc - outstanding. Fish cooked perfectly and the samphire added just the right amount of saltiness. For dessert, chocolate tart with homemade orange sorbet and jelly sours. Love the orange and chocolate combination, tasted just like a Terry's Chocolate Orange - yummy Huge garden which I'm sure is packed during nice weather. We did not book a table and were lucky! Delicious flavours and textures - perfectly cooked duck with just enough hoisin so not to be overpowering. Fresh crisp slaw, the plum added a lovely bit of sweetness and the peanut some excellent crunch. The place itself is lovely - clean decor, modern looking and a beautiful rural setting. Staff were friendly and prompt. And it was busy enough to show that it's well respected locally, which is always a good sign. Overall a great experience and I will come here again if passing!
