We were reccommended the Bow Window by my parents who had been there for meals previously and enjoyed them. On arrival we were asked if we had a table booked and we said yes, gave our name and the time of our booking. The waitress told us to wait in the bar area. Other customers were given menus and their orders were taken, they were then taken to their tables. My boyfriend and I were not given a menu or taken to a table. Other customers came in who had later reservations than us and they were also given menus and taken to their table. We were completely ignored for the next 45 minutes, no one even bothered to look at us after we arrived. We felt so embarrassed we decided to leave and go to another restaurant. The service that we received at the Bow Window was disgraceful. When I told my parents about our experience they rang up to complain but the restaurant owner was in total denial and was completely uninterested and rude. Personally, I feel that we were ignored due to our age. We felt that just because we were young we were not as important as other customers and we were made to feel very uncomfortable and unwanted. I would definitely not recommend the Bow Window, especially not to anyone under the age of 40.

She had the kiddie chicken nuggets and chips, I had the cheese burger and chips. Both came with a small side salad. We also both had hot chocolate. She declared it "the best hot chocolate I ever had" because she was cold. I'd call it perfectly lovely hot chocolate at a reasonable price. What impressed me in particular was the large portion size for the cost. This place delivers tremendous value. Further, I'd been craving good, thick, hot, properly crispy chips/fries for ages and Gallery delivered. My burger was also very nice - nothing special or fancy, just nice, tasty, beefy, and with a good blanket of cheddar on top. My daughter deemed her nuggets "delicious". This isn't a fancy place where you can pick between ten different gourmet cheeses for your burger. Those places are okay, but sometimes you just want to sit down and eat with your kid without fuss. The staff were friendly throughout, it wasn't very crowded (although the man at the Cromwell Museum said it can get very crowded during holiday season, but he said he also loves the place and it's worth braving the crowds), the tables and chairs were clean and comfortable. Back in the US this would be considered a good quality diner, so if you're visiting the UK looking for that sort of thing with some more British offerings, this is the place to go. I happen to have a soft spot for Delft blue plates so that just made it perfect. Do note that it's called Cafe du Gallery at the location and on the website, but Gallery Restaurant on Google Maps. It's all the same place.
